[Top 10] Games Like Until Dawn (Games Better Than Until Dawn In Their Way)

Games Like Until Dawn

10. House of Ashes (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S)

"Long is the way and hard, that out of Hell leads up to Light."

House of Ashes is a horror video game developed by Supermassive Games and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. It is the third installment in  “The Dark Pictures Anthology”  series of horror games.

The story consists of special forces searching for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. After being ambushed by Iraq forces, the group of special forces is trapped under an Akkadian temple that contains a nest of unearthly creatures. Now, their mission is to survive the night.

The same game developer developed House of Ashes as Until Dawn. Their stories are very similar in how the characters of both games have to survive the night. This is not the only similarity; House of Ashes is also an interactive horror game, meaning that the player's choices can affect the game's outcome.

9. The Quarry (PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, Xbox XS)

"Sometimes things just don't make sense"

The Quarry is a drama survival horror game developed by Supermassive Games and published by 2K Games. The Quarry is the successor of Until Dawn and the cousin of The Dark Pictures Anthology.

Its story involves nine camp counselors who must survive their last night at Hackett’s Quarry summer camp, which is filled with supernatural creatures and hunters. The players' role is to help the characters make it through the night.

The Quarry similarities between Quarry and  Until Dawn is its quick time events, how the players' choice changes the outcome of the story, and exploration. A technical difference is how, in Until Dawn, buttons are used for QTEs, while for The Quarry, an analog stick is used. Storywise, it has the same elements as Until Dawn: the antagonist is a supernatural being, and the characters are not well-liked except for one. Just like Until Dawn.

8. Man of Medan (PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch)

"Don't go all changing on me now!"

Developed by Supermassive Games and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, Man of Medan was the first installment of The Dark Pictures Anthology and the series debut. An interactive horror game inspired by the legend of Ourang Medan, it is based on a ghost ship somewhere in the Dutch East Indies with the whole crew dead.

The player will take control of 5 characters on a diving expedition in the South Pacific. During their journey, they will encounter a ghost ship. As the story unfolds, the characters will find themselves trapped and undergo terrific events with a touch of supernatural events.

Man of Medan being the first whole game developed by Supermassive Games after Until Dawn, we can see its similarities; however, personally, what I like about this game is that it also brings the crazy plot twists that made Until Dawn well known and implemented a very different type of antagonist for the series.

7. Little Hope (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Nintendo Switch)

"Do as the heavens have done, forget your evil. With them, forgive yourself."

Little Hope is the second installment of the series The Dark Pictures Anthology. Developed by Supermassive Games and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, Little Hope is a psychological interactive horror game based on Salem in the 1692 witch trials.

Little Hope is a story about four college students and their teacher who get trapped in a ghost town after a bus crash. Trapped by a mysterious fog, they will have to search for a way out while haunted by the past.

Little Hope's story is mostly really different from Until Dawn, which is great cause it brings something new to the series. Little Hope is what Until Dawn first tried to explore with the character Josh, but this time, the story is expanded and has the craziest plot twist at the end of the game. Personally, Little Hope was the best installment of the series.

6. The Inpatient (PS VR)

"Discover who you are before it's too late."

Sony Interactive Entertainment and Supermassive Games created the PlayStation VR interactive drama survival horror game The Inpatient. The game is a pre-sequel to the events that happen in Until Dawn.

It takes place 60 years before the events of Until Dawn. The story follows an amnesiac character trying to find themselves and how they became a patient for Blackwood Pines Sanatorium.

The game's story is heavily influenced by the choices made by the player, just like in other Supermassive Games titles. These choices can result in a multitude of branching storylines and different outcomes.

5. Detroit: Become Human (PS4, PC)

"The most important thing is not to live, but to have a reason for life."

The action-adventure game Detroit: Become Human was developed by Quantic Dream and released by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Detroit: Become Human is based on the future where robots and AI are part of our society as laborers and domestic assistants. The relationship between humans and androids, as well as the moral and ethical problems that arise from their presence, are all explored in the game.

During the story, the player must take on the roles of the android characters Kara, Marcus, and Connor. Just like in Until Dawn, your choices will significantly impact the characters and the story, leading to multiple storylines and options.

Highly regarded for its intricate character development, cinematic presentation, and branching tale, Detroit: Become Human is a unique product in the interactive storytelling genre.

4. Life is Strange (PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox 360, Android, Nintendo Switch)

"I wish I could stay in this moment forever."

The interactive drama graphic adventure video game series Life is Strange was released by Square Enix and developed by Dontnod Entertainment. It consists of several episodes.

Character development, choice-based consequences, and narrative-driven gameplay are some of the series' most well-known features. Its poignant and thought-provoking storytelling has won it a devoted following.

Life Is Strange transforms narrative-based choice and consequence games by allowing the player to turn back time and change the past, present, and future. As Max, a senior in photography, you discover that you can rewind time, saving her old friend Chloe.

Just like Until Dawn, strong character development, emotionally charged storytelling, and how player decisions affect the course of the game are all hallmarks of the Life is Strange series.

3. Beyond Two Souls (PS3, PS4, PC)

"I think they get the message"

Beyond: Two Souls is an interactive drama videogame developed by Quantic Dream and published by SCEI. The game is known for its cinematic storytelling and also its interactive drama.

The player will follow the character Jodie Holmes, a young lady with magical powers connected to an unseen force called Aiden. As they navigate Jodie's life, controlled by government experiments, unusual events, and a search for identity and purpose, players assume the roles of both Jodie and Aiden. The player's decisions impact the story's conclusion, causing the narrative to develop non-linearly.

Because the game is interactive, like Until Dawn, players can make decisions that affect the plot and character relationships. Themes of identity, freedom, and the results of one's deeds are all explored. Action sequences, exploration, and decision-making are all part of the gameplay, representing  Jodie's psychic connection to Aiden through a unique control scheme.

2. The Evil Within 2 (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

"As long as it gets me closer to you, I'll play your game..."

The Evil Within 2 is a survival horror psychological game developed by Tango Gameworks and published by Bethesda Softworks. As can be assumed by the title, The Evil Within 2 is a sequel to the game The Evil Within.

The story follows Detective Sebastian Castellanos. Everything has been lost for him, including Lily, his daughter. He has to venture into the terrifying realm of STEM to save her. Terrifying dangers lurk around every corner, and his only chance of survival is to use cunning.

The game is well-known for its eerie atmosphere, creepy settings, and hideous monsters. The three main focuses are tactical combat, stealth, and resource management. As they advance, players can alter Sebastian's skills and weaponry to suit their preferred playstyle.

1. Heavy Rain (PS3, PS4, PC)

"You're destroying yourself Ethan."

The interactive drama-adventure game Heavy Rain was created by Quantic Dream and released by Sony Computer Entertainment. Heavy Rain is renowned for its immersive storyline, choice-based gameplay, and dramatic storytelling.

In the story, there is an 'Origami Killer' who terrorizes a city on the east coast of the United States; four days after their disappearance, all of the victims are found drowned. The two objects found on each of their bodies, an origami figure and an orchid, appear to be the only hints.

The game centers on four central characters whose paths cross while trying to identify the serial killer, the Origami Killer. Assuming these characters' roles, the player makes decisions that affect the plot and the characters' outcomes.

As the game's creators, Until Heavy Rain inspired Dawn, we can see its immediate similarities in its decision-making, exploration, and quick-time events incorporated into the gameplay. The player's choices can result in different outcomes. During the game, decisions made could have serious repercussions, such as one or more of the main characters dying.
