How do you farm coins in HoloCure?
HoloCure - Save the Fans! Is a popular free rogue-like PC game in the style of Vampire Survivors featuring VTubers from the Hololive VTuber agency.
The game's main currency is HoloCoins. These gold coins allow you to buy upgrades in the game's shop, get new characters or outfits in the character gacha, purchase decorations and farm supplies in the Holo House game mode and make use of upgrade anvils that appear during a run for enchantments or enhancements.
To buy everything, you're going to need a lot of coins. Luckily there are many ways to earn them quickly. Here are eleven of the best ways to optimize your coin farming in the current .6 version:
1. Fish in Holo House (Early, mid or late game)
One of the simplest and most consistent ways to get HoloCoins is to fish at the Holo House. Holo House is a special game mode that was added to the game in the .6 version where the player may take time away from regular gameplay to take part in various other activities. To unlock it one need only beat the first stage of the game.
Within the Holo House fishing is one of the most worthwhile options. To fish the player must visit the pond and complete a quick rhythm game-esque mini-game. If successful, you will collect fish which can be used in conjunction with vegetables obtained through the Holo House farm to cook a variety of foods that will increase your stats during game runs.
Fishing has another use, however, and that is making potentially a lot of coins without even having to play the main game. This is because Bloop, the NPC located near the pond, is willing to buy any fish you collect. The process is endlessly repeatable, meaning the potential to make coins is limitless, depending only on your skill at the fishing mini-game and the time you're willing to invest.
Steps for this method:
- Complete Stage 1 to unlock Holo House.
- Go to Holo House, find the pond and press the confirm button to drop your fishing line.
- Win the mini-game by matching the inputs shown in time and collect fish.
- Repeat. You will build up a streak every time you are successful, which will make the mini-game harder but increase the number of fish you win each time.
- When you have a decent amount of fish, talk to Bloop and exchange your fish for sand.
- Sand can be directly exchanged for Holo Coins by Bloop, but to increase your coin making potential, consider using sand to first buy upgrades to your fishing rod. This will also help you to obtain better fish that can be sold for more sand.
- Keep fishing, selling your fish and upgrading the rod when you are able to.
- Once you have the best rod, you will be able to catch sharks and axolotls, which sell for 750 and 2000 coins a piece respectively. Even mid-tier fish net hundreds of coins a piece though, so the money can add up quickly if you stick to it.
- On very rare occasions while fishing, you may luck upon a rare golden variant of a fish. When caught, these golden fish can be sold to Bloop for 100 times the value of the standard fish, which means 5000 gold for even the most common shrimp. The player will also get a nice trophy of that fish to decorate their Holo House with.
2. Use coin gathering items and learn the game's coin mechanics (early game)
If you'd rather play the actual game to make coins than spend your time on a repetitive mini-game, it pays to generally learn the items and options that can enhance your coin farming potential and try to take advantage of them as much as possible.
Holo Coins can be found occasionally as an enemy drop, in breakable crates on certain stages and in Holozon boxes dropped by bosses. Additionally, the player will receive a hefty clear bonus of coins upon successfully completing a stage. This makes Stage Mode more profitable than Endless in the early game.
At specific timestamps on the stage you're playing, there is a twenty percent chance that a Golden or Silver Yagoo will appear. These rare, harmless enemies drop coins every time they're struck but must be killed quickly or they will disappear. The Golden ones drop way more coins and will also drop Holozon boxes containing even more coins when defeated. The Silver Yagoos drop stamps instead of boxes.
There are three main items in HoloCure that help you make extra coins, Stolen Piggy Bank, Super Chatto Time and Halu.
At max level Stolen Piggy Bank will net you 1 coin every fifty pixels you move. It also increases your movement speed but has the drawback of reducing your pick up range (you can offset this with Knightly Milk or the Limiter if desired). It can net you a lot of coins if you stay in motion. It can be unlocked in the game by killing a Golden Yagoo.
Super Chatto Time causes enemies to drop coins at up to twice the standard rate at max level. It also causes all coins to be picked up automatically as soon as they appear. Naturally, this helps gathering coins a lot. It is unlocked by obtaining 5000 coins.
Finally there is Halu, which gives you coins for enemies killed at a rate dependent on the item's level (with it being one coin per one enemy at max level). This will boost your coin earning potential more than any other item, however it's also risky as Halu causes enemies to become both more numerous and much stronger. Only take and level up Halu if you have confidence in your build for the current stage. Halu is unlocked by killing 5000 enemies in a single run.
Steps for this method:
- Gather coins whenever they appear and always claim Holozon boxes.
- Play on Stage Mode at first to capitalize on the clear bonus you get for successfully clearing stages.
- Defeat Golden and Silver Yagoos whenever they appear.
- Unlock and use Stolen Piggy Bank and keep moving when you do.
- Unlock and use Super Chatto Time.
- Unlock and use Halu, but only when you're sure you can survive the difficulty spikes it brings.
3. Play as Pavolia Reine (early or mid game)
One of the most straightforward characters to use for coin farming is Pavolia Reine. Reine can be unlocked by drawing from the ID Holoro banner in the character gacha. This banner has only three potential characters under it, so realistically the player should be able to draw her easily with just a few gacha rolls.
To make her a coin farmer, the player must also unlock the Special Attack in the upgrade shop. This is because Reine's main means of generating coins is her special, Tonjok. An atypical special, when activated it does not immediately do anything. Instead it gives the player five charges which can be used at the player's discretion by pressing the special button again. When used, Reine will throw a massive punch in the direction she is facing which covers a large area of the screen, potentially targeting many enemies. Every enemy hit by each fist has a forty percent chance to drop Holo Coins.
You will quickly notice the coins pile up if you use it effectively against large enemy hordes. Unlike other coin farming characters, Reine can farm a lot of coins per run without the uncertain element of needing an enemy to drop the Greed Stamp, which makes her a great option if you get frustrated by wasted runs.
Steps for this method:
- Earn enough coins to roll the gacha a few times. Pull from the ID Holoro banner until you unlock Reine.
- Buy the Special Attack for 500 coins from the upgrade shop if you haven't already.
- Play as Reine on any stage. Harder stages will net more coins if you can complete them.
- Incorporate Idol Costume into your build to reduce special cooldown. If you don't have it unlocked, play a run on any stage after unlocking Special Attack to unlock it.
- Use your special whenever the special meter is full. With Reine, there is no reason to ever save it as the punches don't get thrown until you press the button again. Try to throw the punches whenever there are many enemies in front of you. The denser the hordes, the better the results.
- To optimize your coin farming potential, add Super Chatto Time and Stolen Piggy Bank into your build. Halu will also result in more coins, but only if you have confidence you can complete the run with the added difficulty.
- Though Reine notably does not require the Greed Stamp to make a lot of coins, if you do have Stamps unlocked and find it, definitely add it to your build to further your coin farming potential. It will amplify your earning potential greatly.
4. Find and use the Greed Stamp (early or mid game)
The coin boosting items and Reine's Tonjok can net you a lot of coins, but the most powerful coin farming tool in the game is unquestionably the Greed Stamp.
Stamps are unlocked in the upgrade shop. Once unlocked, every enemy has a 1/780 chance of dropping a stamp when defeated. Stamps alter the properties of the character's main weapon in various ways. There are currently twenty stamps that can drop in the game. Greed gives every hit by the main weapon a 3, 4 or 5 percent chance (depending on the stamp's level) to drop coins, with the amount dropped increasing for every ten damage dealt.
Which of the twenty stamps appear when a stamp is dropped is random, but certain stamps are weighted to appear more often. Greed has a weight of 3 out of 4, with 1 being the rarest, meaning it is relatively common, but even so there is no guarantee it will drop at all during a run.
As soon as Stamps are unlocked, make a point to always use Greed when it does appear and strengthen it to level 3 with other stamps as soon as you are able to. You will see your coin earnings go up notably even when just playing normally if you do.
Certain other stamps will also pair with the Greed Stamp to increase its effectiveness. This depends somewhat on the nature of your character's weapon. For most melee weapons and ranged weapons with large projectiles, the Size Up Stamp and Haste Up Stamps will often have the best effect. For multi shot weapons with small projectiles, you will want to look for Projectile Up and especially the Bomb Stamp as the explosions it generates can also activate the Greed effect.
Steps for this method:
- Unlocks Stamps in the upgrade shop for 500 coins.
- Play the game normally. If an enemy drops the Greed Stamp, always equip it.
- Level it up quickly by strengthening it using other stamps that appear.
- Combine with coin gathering items to make it even better. It works especially well with Super Chatto Time.
- Pair with other stamps to increase the effect. This will depend somewhat on your main weapon. On any weapon with small, quick projectiles the Bomb Stamp is a notably good combo with Greed that will lead to more coins.
5. Invest in Money Gain upgrades early (mid game)
Once you have access to a decent amount of coins, an important step to take is to invest in Money Gain upgrades at the upgrade shop. Though this isn't really a stand alone method on its own, it will greatly enhance the effectiveness of most of the other methods on the list with no additional effort from the player.
The Money Gain upgrade can be found near the bottom of the Stat Upgrades tab of the Shop menu. Each individual upgrade bought will increase the amount of coins gained by a full 20%.
Unfortunately you will have to spend coins to make coins as the cost of each upgrade gets progressively more costly. You will need a total of 221,300 coins to buy all ten upgrades and reach max level.
At max level, the amount of coins you gain while playing will increase by 200%. The difference will be immediately apparent in whatever you do.
Steps for this method:
- Gather coins using other methods. You will need 221,300 coins in all if you haven't already bought any upgrades
- Go to the Shop menu and navigate to the Stat Upgrades tab.
- Purchase all ten Money Gain upgrades.
- Play the game as you please. You will now be making 200% more coins per run, which should add up quickly.
6. Raise workers with the Management Board in Holo House (mid or late game)
While fishing is the most straightforward way to make coins in the Holo House game mode, it contains another way to farm coins as well. The player will find the Management Board south of the farm area which they can interact with to hire workers who will passively generate Holo Coins as time passes in game.
The workers will appear in the pen next to the Management Board when hired. Workers have the following stats: Efficiency, Stamina, Max Level and EXP Rate. Efficiency relates to how quickly they gather coins while working, Stamina affects the rate at which they exhaust themselves, Max Level is the maximum level they can achieve and EXP Rate determines the rate at which they reach new levels. Look for balanced workers with generally high stats in as many areas as possible.
When hired the workers will automatically start generating coins, which will deplete their Stamina gradually. If they run out of Stamina, they will stop working. To restore Stamina the player must periodically feed their workers. Selecting a hired worker on the Management Board will show you what the worker wants to eat. It will either be a fish or a vegetable. For fish, try fishing in the pond until you catch the specific fish they want.
For vegetables you will need to use the farm. Talk to Nemu, the NPC at the farm, and buy seeds for the specific vegetables your workers want and soil to plant them with. Plant the seeds in the nearby plots, water them, then wait and harvest and you will have your vegetables.
As you feed the workers they will also gain exp which will cause their current level to increase, raising their Stamina and Efficiency. Increasing worker levels a lot will eventually lead to your Management Level increasing. This level determines the quality of the workers you are able to hire with better workers being available at higher levels. Old workers can and should be retired and replaced with better workers as they become available to optimize your earnings.
Workers will continue gathering Holo Coins while you are playing even outside of the Holo House. Whenever you wish to collect the coins gathered by your workers, select the Collect option from the Management Board.
Steps for this method:
- Go to Holo House. Hire workers for coins from the Management Board. Look for workers with generally high stats.
- Check what your workers want to eat by selecting them on the Management Board.
- Use the fishing pond to catch any desired fish.
- If vegetables are desired, buy seeds and soil from Nemu. Plant, water, wait and harvest.
- Feed your workers to keep them working and level them up.
- As you level up workers, your level will go up allowing you to hire better workers (you can retire current workers to make room).
- Repeat the process. With time, you can reach the max level and hire the best workers.
- Coins generate automatically while workers work as long as they have Stamina and even if you're not at the Holo House.
- At any point you wish to collect the coins gathered, you can do so from the Management Board.
7. Use the Holo House farm to make Fruit Sandwich (mid or late game)
Though less of a specific coin farming method than fishing and workers, there is one more way to significantly boost your coin farming efforts at the Holo House. The player can use the Cooking Pot to make the Fruit Sandwich dish.
Dishes made through the Cooking Pot grant bonuses to the player that can be applied during a run of the main game. Many of these can be very worthwhile. The Fruit Sandwich has the effect of increasing coins by 30% when used during a run.
To cook the Fruit Sandwich the player will need three wheat and five strawberries. These can be found by using the farm. Talk to Nemu and buy wheat and strawberry seeds and soil. Plant the seeds in all the plots, water them, wait and harvest when they are ready. Go to the Cooking Pot and select Fruit Sandwich. If you have a lot of wheat and strawberries saved up and plan on doing many coin farming runs in a row, you may find it helpful to use the auto cook option which will keep cooking Fruit Sandwich so long as you have the ingredients, without needing to return to the Holo House.
With your Fruit Sandwich cooked, leave Holo House and go to play the main game. After selecting your character, you will notice there is now a check box asking whether or not you'd like to use the Fruit Sandwich. Make sure this is checked and play the game. You will make 30% more coins than you would have otherwise. Each time Fruit Sandwich is cooked it is good for a total of five uses.
Steps for this method:
- Go to Holo House and talk to Nemu. Buy wheat and strawberry seeds and soil.
- Plant the wheat and strawberry seeds at the farm. Water them, wait and harvest when you are able to.
- Go to the Cooking Pot and scroll through the options until you find Fruit Sandwich.
- Select auto cook if you plan to be coin farming for a while, then cook the Fruit Sandwich.
- Leave Holo House and go to start a run. Select your character and you'll notice a check box is now there asking if you'd like to use the Fruit Sandwich. Make sure this is ticked.
- Complete runs, preferably using other methods on this list. You will make 30% more coins than you would have otherwise.
8. Play as Ayunda Risu with the Greed Stamp (mid or late game)
Ayunda Risu is another great coin farming character. She can be unlocked through the ID Area 15 character banner in the gacha. As with Reine this should be fairly easy as there are only three possible characters in this banner.
Once you have Risu make sure you have unlocked Stamps in the upgrade shop. Risu's DLC skill passively nets her coins during a run at a rate of 3 per 3 seconds at max skill level, which is a nice start, but to really get her going as a coin farmer you're going to need the Greed Stamp.
What makes Risu a good choice to use with the Greed Stamp in particular is the impressive attack rate of her main weapon, Nuts, when awakened and paired with her Nonstop Nuts skill. The nuts it fires will constantly hit and bounce from enemy to enemy, creating a very large number of chances for the stamp to spawn coins.
Steps for this method:
- Win enough coins to roll the gacha a few times. Pull from the ID Area 15 banner until you unlock Risu.
- Buy Stamps from the upgrade shop if you haven't.
- Play as Risu on any stage. Harder stages will net you more coins if you can complete them.
- As you play make it a priority to max out Nuts, DLC and Nonstop Nuts.
- Wait for the Greed Stamp to drop. Unfortunately this is hugely variable and can be frustrating. Even so, playing through stages to obtain the win bonus is generally more productive than quitting out of runs.
- To optimize your potential for coin farming, be on the lookout for Stolen Piggy Bank and Super Chatto Time. Also consider Halu if you feel strong enough to win with it active.
- Ideally also use the Bomb Stamp if you find it.
- A good strategy to further optimize any coin runs that rely on the Greed Stamp is to buy all levels of Weapon Limit in the upgrade shop. This will make the main weapon the only available weapon for the run. Though this can add to the challenge, it will increase coins as only attacks by the main weapon trigger the Greed Stamp.
9. Play as AZKi with the Greed Stamp (mid or late game)
AZKi is another optimal choice for coin farming runs. She can be unlocked by pulling from the JP Gen 0 character banner. This banner has five possible characters so expect to have to roll a few times to get her depending on luck.
Compared to Risu, AZKi lacks any innate coin generating ability so her farming potential is entirely reliant on the Greed Stamp. Her attack pattern, however, is even more optimal for activating the effects of the stamp.
This is due to her weapon, Diva Song's awakened effect, which causes it to regularly duplicate itself and spread, leading to constant hits on enemies. Her Virtual Diva skill also provides additional attack speed to her already quick attack pattern so long as she avoids taking damage.
Steps for this method:
- Win enough coins to roll the gacha a few times. Pull from the JP Gen 0 banner until you unlock AZKi.
- Buy Stamps from the upgrade shop if you haven't.
- Play as AZKi on any stage. Harder stages will net you more coins if you can complete them.
- As you play make it a priority to max out Diva Song and Virtual Diva.
10. Play as IRyS with the Greed Stamp (mid or late game)
The last specific character who is an optimal coin farmer is IRyS. She can be unlocked by pulling her from the EN Council + Hope banner of the gacha. Unfortunately this is the banner with the most characters under it, a total of six possible options, so it may take several rolls to draw her.
IRyS as a coin farmer is a very similar story to AZKi with her effectiveness at it primarily drawing from the change to her weapon after it is awakened. IRyS Nephilim Blast's rate of fire becomes rapid when awakened, amplifying chances for the Greed Stamp to trigger.
While AZKi and potentially even Risu might net you more coins in a single successful run, IRyS remains an appealing option as she is a powerful, high tier character who is notable for her ease of use. Since the optimal strategy for coin farming with Greed is to limit your weapons so only the main weapon is available and to use Halu, many will prefer using a strong character with balanced skills like IRyS to increase survival chances.
Steps for this method:
- Win enough coins to roll the gacha a few times. Pull from the EN Council + Hope banner until you unlock IRyS.
- Buy Stamps from the upgrade shop if you haven't.
- Play as IRyS on any stage. Harder stages will net you more coins if you can complete them.
- As you play make it a priority to max out Nephilim Blast.
- Ideally, also use the Bomb Stamp if you find it.
11. Do Endless runs with Halu and try for the Leaderboards (late game)
Late in the game, after most of the available upgrades have been purchased from the shop, coins will be less important. At this point you shouldn't need to go out of your way to specifically farm coins. Instead, if all that you have left to do is purchase your last few upgrades, roll the gacha for additional G Ranks or outfits, get the The Real Grind achievement or buy out the Holo House furniture shop, a good idea is to instead turn your focus to just trying to score big and land your name on the Leaderboards.
The Leaderboards list the highest scores of players across the world playing the various stages on Endless mode. To make it high onto the Leaderboards you will need to take and max out Halu during your Endless run as the additional enemies it generates are necessary to optimize your score.
Since Halu also gives you a coin for every enemy killed and the hordes grow incredibly dense deep into an Endless run, this means any earnest attempt to make the Leaderboards will also generate you lots of coins. So even after coins are no longer a priority they will still pile up quickly as you make high score attempts, potentially past the point you have meaningful ways to spend them.
Steps for this method:
- Play on Endless Mode on a stage you feel comfortable with as your best character and shoot for the strongest build you can make.
- Be sure to take Halu during the run and max it out as quickly as you can without becoming overwhelmed.
- Survive as long as you possibly can. If you manage to stay alive for a few minutes after the 30 minute mark there's a good chance you can land on the Leaderboards.
- You will be slaying countless enemies in the process, and because of Halu this will translate to just as many coins once the run ends.
