In this article, I’m going to be giving you my top 5 best classes to play in Maplestory as an unfunded player. So what makes a class good for unfunded players? Well, the whole point is that it’s a class that’s powerful enough to reach the endgame, with very little to no previous money going into the character. So, you won’t have to already have an endgame character with lots of money, to then give your new character so they can buy expensive equipment. These are characters that are strong enough to reach endgame with just the equipment you pick up off the ground, and the money you’ll earn from questing.
I’m going to be using the two terms “Mobbing” and “Bossing” in this article. “Mobbing” refers to how well a class can fight regular monsters. “Bossing” refers to how well a class can fight (you guessed it) Boss monsters. Each class has its strengths and weaknesses, but at the end of the day, you should play the class you think is the most fun. In Maplestory, you’ll be able to reach endgame one way or another, with or without funding. So pick the class you love the most regardless of what anyone says about it.
And with that, let’s get into the list!
#5: Luminous
At number five, I’m putting Luminous.
Luminous is one of the six Heroes of Maple World, the heroes that sealed the evil Black Mage from destroying Maple World. Luminous is a mage that was touched by the darkness in the Black Mage, and thus controls the powers of light and darkness. This is one of the best classes for mobbing to date, with a chain attack skill that can cover most maps entirely. Itsbossing skills are also above par, putting out high single target damage. The only area Luminous lacks is its mobility options, with slow movement speed and a weak teleport.
Why Luminous is great, unfunded:
High damage
- Best mobbing in the game
- Beginner-friendly with low skill management
- One of the strongest bossers
Pick Luminous if:
- You’re new to the game
- Want a relaxing, easy mobbing experience
- Love mages
#4: Kanna
Number four is Kanna, the Sengoku mage, wielding a fan and working with her loyal companion Haku.
Kanna is normally viewed as a supportive class because they have an ability that lowers the respawn timer for monsters, making mobbing go a lot faster. However, Kanna by themselves can be a deadly force. As a Kanna, you’ll be equipped with a handful of abilities that kill all monsters on a map, high damage output, beautifully designed skills, and incredibly high mobility. Bossing is average, but they can certainly fend for themselves. You’ll also get to enjoy that respawn timer skill all to yourself, making leveling up go way faster.
Why Kanna is great, unfunded:
- Ability to lower enemy respawn timer, making mobbing go faster
- High mobility
- Multiple full-screen attacks
Pick Kanna if:
- You don’t already have one
- You like the Japanese motif
- Flashy skills are your thing
#3: Dawn Warrior
Number three is the soldier of the Sun and Moon, Dawn Warrior.
Dawn Warriors are the warrior class of the Cygnus Knights, all five of which are incredibly beginner and unfunded friendly. Dawn Warrior is my pick of them all for its damage, flashiness, and overall fun! Dawn Warriors are very mobile, with a side dash-jump, and upwards dash-jump. They have a good mobbing skill, not the biggest reach, but the sheer damage and mobility make up for the range loss. Dawn Warriors shine brightest in their bossing, with incredibly fast attacks each hitting for huge numbers of damage.
Why Dawn Warrior is great, unfunded:
- High damage regardless of funding
- Flashy move-set with high utility
- Great potential even without funding
Pick Dawn Warrior if:
- You like bossing
- The Sun, Moon, and Galaxy motif appeals to you
- On-par mobbing isn’t an issue
#2: Dual Blade
At number 2 we have Dual Blade, the double knife-wielding thief.
Dual Blade is a thief class, the most popular thief class as of writing this. Serving as an addition to the Explorers roster, Dual Blades are fit to form thieves not only in aesthetic but playstyle too. You’re going to be flying across the map with horizontal and vertical movement skills, slicing up any enemy along the way.
Dual Blades are an all-around class with strong mobbing skills and incredibly strong bossing skills. Being an Explorer, you also benefit from the shared Explorer thief skill, Sudden Raid, a full map clearing skill. Your single-target bossing skills are also among the best in the game, being able to dish out insane damage numbers. Dual Blade is a class where they’re great unfunded. But once you’re able to fund them, you’ll be able to go above and beyond and sit atop the chart as one of the best classes in the game.
Why Dual Blade is great, unfunded:
- High damage ceiling
- The entirety of the game’s content is available to you, with no funding
- Great starter class to reach endgame on, then get funding
Pick Dual Blade if:
- You love the thief world
- High-speed movement and skills are for you
#1: Adele
Finally, at number 1, we have Adele, the Amnesiac Bladecaster.
Adele is a warrior from a time forgotten, set in a prison, and doomed to forget the past until they are called upon again. Adele utilizes the aether to summon blades to fight at their side, dissecting enemy’s weaknesses and swiftly killing them.
As an Adele, you’ll have some of the best mobbing in the game available to you. While it’s more active than Luminous, you’ll be managing your aether swords and will be able to cover the whole map with ease. Among bossing, Adele is top form with several attacks, AoE, and passive skills aiding in the fight. Your blades that fly around do a significant amount of damage, and will be one of your greatest aids.
Why Adele is great, unfunded:
- Adele needs no funding to put out enough damage to get to endgame
- The sheer amount of damage and quantity of your blades assists you greatly
- You have plenty of passive skills at your disposal to boost damage
Pick Adele if:
- You want to be a warrior, but with a touch of magic
- You want an overall good experience with everything the game offers
