Leave No Stone Unturned
A staple that makes RPGs so great is the customization of characters. The best of them provide endless possibilities in playing the same stories again and again. Each component of the characters we curate makes them unique. The details are what we come back for.
A character build is the combination of abilities and equipment a player can choose to best suit their style of play. Middle-Earth: Shadow of War expands exponentially on the possibilities of its predecessor. There is an endless variety of skills and equipment and boosts available. A better configuration may always be waiting.
Out of the multiplex of decisions when building Talion’s skillset, here are 5 of my favorite configurations:
5. The Necromancer Build
Build an army.
- Available post-game
- Possess the power of Sauron and his One Ring
- Raise the dead
- Legendary weapons Urfael, Acharn, the Servant’s Blackened Armor each possess chance to raise the dead
- Raise additional dead as a Might ability
- Use the hammer to keep the Undead fighting
- Beyond cool and great in fortress assaults, not the best in 1V1
4. The Stealth Build
Yes, you'll have to trust Gollum.
- A broader build, less specific to any specific gear set
- Move quickly & stay up high using an array of alternating ranged attacks
- Elven Agility with the Silent Runner upgrade
- Sprint silently and get up high swiftly
- Poison Tendril with the Contagion upgrade
- Poison grog barrels from a distance and incite fights between orcs
- Deadly Spectre uses Attract to leave a Wraith for a stealth kill
- Detonate, Mighty Shot with upgrades Firestorm & Venom, Shadow Strike are all essential
- The more methodical build
3. The Bandit Build
Incite chaos.
- Mix & Match between Marauder & Outlaw Legendary gear sets
- Marauder gear allows more Mirian (in-game currency) to fall & uses it to enhance health & damage
- There is no limit on this - pick up 1000 Mirian, Talion’s damage increases 1000%
- Outlaw gear causes any status effect - fire, poison, frost, curse
- Boost damage to near infinity and spread it around
- Wild & volatile, especially in a fortress assault
2. The Frost Build
- Great on Brutal difficulty
- Utilizes the Bright Lord epic set
- Uses fast Wrath gain and a 55% damage reduction with the armor set & full Might
- Chance to freeze everything - even Frost-immune Captains will freeze for an instant
- The cloak allows Talion to disappear upon a successful Last Chance
1. Fire & Close Quarters Build
Light the fuse.
- Up close & personal, big damage on short order
- Freeze Pin, Elven Light with any upgrade, all Mounted abilities are essential
- Mix & Match between Warmonger & Machine Legendary gear sets
- Warmonger gear causes 25% of orcs to explode upon death
- Machine gear grants 20 points of health per second when in fire
- Equip Dark gear to incorporate Balefire abilities, mixing poison & fire - perfect in 1V1 situations
- Legendary weapon Threshing Sword enables an explosive Glaive - a game-changer
- Grim Resolve & Mighty Reversal upgrades make for immediate Might gain
- Fight off entire hordes
The most important thing concerning builds is there are no wrong answers - try out everything and have fun doing it. A team of people worked hard to leave all these options at our fingertips and it’s our job to go and explore every single detail.
