10. Hurl Hammer

Game Description: A hammer that you can throw for long-range attacks.

Ranking at number 10, the hurlhammer is a successful holdover from Paper Mario: Sticker Star. Available early in the game, the hurl hammer is one of the strongest weapons Mario can obtain during the first Red Streamer Quest. While it’s technically a hammer, it works more like boots in terms of line up and damage. To obtain this weapon, visit the weapon store in Toad Town and purchase it for 380 coins. However, note that the weapon store doesn’t open until Mario has rescued the Toad that runs the shop. In fact, to get most of the weapons in the game, Mario needs to rescue the toad that runs the Toad Town Weapon Shop. The toad can be found right outside Peach’s Castle inside the castle gates before Picnic Road.

Advantages:

  • Higher damage than regular hammer
  • Higher damage than shiny boots
  • Can successfully damage spiked enemies
  • A strong weapon against early game enemies

Damage and usage:

  • Use when enemies are in a straight line
  • 50 hp and “nice” puts attack at 11
  • 50 hp and excellent puts attack at 14
  • Max damage (HP 200) is 22

9. Shiny Iron Boots

Game description: Stronger and shinier than your regular Iron Boots.

While you can get Shiny Boots at the same point in the game, a better use of time and money is to go ahead and splurge for the Shiny Iron Boots. Unlike regular boots, (even the standard shiny, flashy, and legendary boots), Shiny Iron Boots can stomp on pesky spiked enemies! In battle, use this weapon against enemies in a straight line. To obtain this weapon, hit a ? box right before defeating the Water Vellumental during the Blue Streamer Quest. After destroying the Blue Streamer, Shiny Iron Boots become available for purchase at Toad Town at the weapons shop.

8. Shiny Hammer

Game description: Stronger and shinier than your regular, everyday hammer.

Like #9 and #10, the Shiny Hammer is one of the first advanced weapons available in the game. Like the Shiny Iron boots, the Shiny Hammer is a necessity to defeat advancing enemies through early-mid game-play. Compared to the regular hammer, the Shiny Hammer has a much higher attack. While completing the Blue Streamer Quest, you can find this weapon by hitting the ? box right placed right before the Earth Vellumental. In addition, this weapon is available for purchase after the completion of the Blue Streamer Quest.

7. Gold Hammer/Boots

Game description: Use this to knock coins out of your enemies' pockets.

The Gold Hammer and Boots have a unique ability in the game that cannot be found in any other weapon--every time these weapons are used, they steal coins from enemies! The boots and hammer both have different uses and damages, but they both increase Mario’s fortune by knocking a few coins out of enemy’ pockets. These weapons are exclusively found in the buried sand of the Scorching Sandpaper Desert.

  • Same damage at Shiny Iron Boots/Shiny Hammer

6. Fire/Ice Hammer:

Game Description: “A hammer that crackles with ice when whacking foes / A hammer that blazes with flames when whacking an enemy.”

Like #7, the Fire and Ice Hammers ranking at #6 have a special ability. When attacking, these weapons can shoot out fire or ice! While most of the ice and fire is just for spectacle and will not immobilize enemies like in The Thousand Year Door, it does deal higher damage than the previous weapons. And it looks pretty darn cool! Even though some of the previous weapons with a lower damage are found later in the game, the Fire and Ice Hammers are available as early as the Blue Streamer Quest! To find this weapon, purchase at the shop in Shogun Studios after saving the store owner.

Advantages

  • Higher damage than shiny weapons
  • Higher damage than gold weapons
  • Can be found earlier than weapons with lower damage

Damage and Uses

5. Flashy Iron boots

Game Description: Stronger and fancier than regular Iron Boots. They can deal huge damage!

“Flashy” weapons are the next level up from Shiny weapons. While there are regular Flashy Boots, the Iron counterpart, as always, is much stronger. Flashy Iron Boots are mid-game weapons, so they won’t be available to Mario until quite some gameplay. Available starting the Yellow Ribbon Quest, the boots can be found in the mysterious and evolving Snif--I mean, Shroom City.

Advantages

  • Higher damage than Shiny weapons
  • Higher damage than Flashy Boots

  • Fit for fighting advanced foes

Advantages

  • Higher damage than Shiny weapons
  • Higher damage than Flashy Boots
  • Can attack spiked enemies
  • Fit for fighting advanced foes

3. Legendary Iron boots

Game Description:The strongest type of Iron Boots. Crush your spiked foes!

Legendary weapons are the strongest weapons in the game (other than #1). The weapons are found in the Green and Purple Streamer Quests--the very last streamers of the game. During the last tasks of the final game, it is impossible to defeat enemies without legendary weapons. Much the same as it was for Shiny and Flashy weapons, Legendary Boots cannot attack spikes, where Legendary Iron Boots can; Legendary Iron Boots are also stronger than Legendary boots. During the last two quests, these boots can be found in the heavenly Shangri-Spa and in the vast Great Sea.

Advantages

  • Can defeat spiked enemies
  • Have a higher damage rate than regular Legendary Boots
  • Strongest boots in the game

Damage and Uses

  • Use when enemies are in a line
  • HP at 160 with “nice” puts attack at 31
  • HP at 160 with “excellent” puts attack at 33
  • Max damage of 35

2. Legendary Hammer

Game Description: “Strongest and fanciest hammer in the game.”

Coming in at #2 is the Legendary Hammer. The Legendary Hammer can be found during the Green and Purple Streamer Quests--the very last streamers of the game. During the last tasks of the final game, it is nearly impossible to defeat enemies without legendary weapons. This hammer can be found at the mystical Shangri-Spa and treacherous Hammer Island.

Advantages:

  • Highest damage rate for legendary weapons
  • Strongest Hammer in the game
  • More commonly found than Legendary Iron Boots, with a higher rate
  • Can squash spiked enemies

  • HP at 160  with “excellent” puts attack at 37
  • Max damage of 37

1. Shiny Hurlhammer:

Game description: A stronger option for long-range hammer attacks.

Finally, coming in at number one is… The Shiny Hurlhammer! Despite the legendary weapons being described as “the best weapons in the game,” the shiny hurlhammer sits at #1 for a few reasons. Firstly, the first Shiny Hurlhammer can be found at Shogun studios, making it available exceptionally early in the game for such a high damage weapon! As a result, the damage to enemy-hp ratio is slanted wildly in Mario’s favor. Secondly, it can attack spiked enemies lined up. However, these items are rare and expensive, so if found, use wisely.

Advantages

  • Can be found and used early in the game
  • Has the one of two of the highest Max damages in the game
  • Can destroy spiked enemies

Damage and Uses

  • Use when enemies are in a line
  • HP at 100 with “nice” puts attack at 28
  • HP at 100 with “excellent” puts attack at 32
  • Max damage of 37
