What Are The Best Vermintide 2 Builds?
If your looking to win on the hardest difficulty or want to unlock the legend outfit for every career in the game, then I’ve got a guide that will make things easier, here you’ll find a build for every career, presented in alphabetical order so sorry Zealot fans.
15. Battle Wizard
Some regard the Battle Wizard as the weakest career in the game in terms of effectiveness, so what better choice for the first guide.
Like all of Sienna’s careers, the Battle Wizard specializes in ranged combat, using powerful staffs to scorch her enemies from a distance and her career skill allows her to stun a dangerous foe or teleport to a better position.
Talents
Level 5: Cauterise Wounds (Increases healing received by 30%)
This talent allows you to make the most of healing items, ideal for fights that you barely walked away from or to recover after taking a nasty hit.
Level 10: World Aflame (Every nearby enemy increase power by 5%, with a stack limit of 5)
It may not seem like much, but not only does it increase your damage, it also increases your chances of stunning an enemy when you hit them.
Level 15: Burning Vigour (When Tranquility is active, the stamina cost of blocking attacks is reduced by 40%)
Tranquility is cancelled whenever you take damage or cast a spell and it takes 8 seconds before it is active again, so it’s best if you don’t rely on it too much, this talent lets you cherish it while it’s still enabled. The ability to block against an onslaught of strikes for as long as possible serves two purposes; first, it makes Tranquility last longer; second, when you’re overwhelmed by the enemy, it gives your team more time to come to your aid.
Here is where it gets cool, or for a fire wizard hot, weapons and trinkets can also have block-cost reduction traits on them (up to 30% each item) so if you get two items with the trait at max value and with this talent active, thats 100% reduction to stamina cost to block which means that even a chaos warrior's most powerful attack can be repelled like its nothing!
Level 20: Soul Snare (Kills grant 2 temporary health)
Something that you do a lot in this game is kill things, might as well make the most of it.
Level 25: Burnout (Fire Walk removes all overcharge)
Removing overcharge is akin to a reload for other class’ ranged weapons and a second salvo from the bright wizard is all the more devastating. Also, Fire Walk is not a very powerful career skill, but at least it recharges quickly, so you might as well have more reasons to use it.
Weapons
Melee: Mace/Sword. If armored enemies are giving you a hard time, bring a mace. If the team is struggling with hordes and the bad guys aren’t giving a chance to clear them out with your staff, then use a sword. These principles apply to all the wizard careers.
Ranged: Fireball Staff. Probably the most versatile staff, the standard attack is okay for hitting distant foes and the alternate attack is great for hordes.
14. Bounty Hunter
On the opposite side of the power spectrum, the Bounty Hunter is considered by many to be the strongest career in the game. Nevertheless, here are some tips to better equip yourself.
The Bounty Hunter can deal an incredible amount of damage, especially to a single target, his career skill is a prime example as it grants him the ability to take out chaos warriors instantly! And from a safe distance. Indeed, the Bounty Hunter is excellent at ranged combat and with the right loadout, he’ll always be prepared to fight on his terms.
Talents
Level 5: Swift Reload (Reload weapons 20% faster)
You’ll be firing your ranged weapon often, so it’s a good idea to reduce the time it takes to reload.
Level 10: Crippling Strike (Critical hit power boost by 25%)
The Blessed Shots passive ability guarantees a critical hit every 10 seconds or after a melee kill, so why not boost the damage they deal?
Level 15: Prize Bounty (Shots affected by Blessed Shots consume no ammunition)
You can trigger Blessed Shots quite often and with this talent, it’s easy to keep a your ammo count high.
Level 20: Righteous Zeal (Kills grant 2 temporary health)
It may seem strange to pick the kill oriented one over the crit option, but keep in mind that each attack or projectile can only trigger this effect once, so you’ll get more benefit from the kill talent.
Level 25: Double-shotted (Modifies Victor’s sidearm to fire two projectiles in a straight line)
This talent makes it easy to take out chaos warriors, with the Blessed Shots ability ready, you can kill them instantly.
Weapons
Melee: Falchion. The only thing that the Bounty Hunter might struggle with is hordes, not with a falchion though.
Ranged: Volley Crossbow. Blessed Shots affects all three bolts from the alternate fire, Prize Bounty makes all three bolts consume no ammo and the Scrounger trait works with Blessed Shots so you can fire into a horde and gain ammo!
Weapon trait: Scrounger
13. Foot Knight
The Foot Knight’s durability allows him to serve his team as a frontline combatant. The best part is his career skill which allows him to push enemies back. Few things compare to the joy of watching Kruber give the boss a taste of its own medicine, pushing it all over the place or better yet, off a cliff.
Talents
Level 5: Bastion of the Reik (Increases maximum health by 25%)
This bonus health is increased even further when you consider the fact that the Foot Knight’s passive abilities reduce damage taken.
Level 10: Regroup (Reviving party members grant them 50% damage reduction for 10 seconds)
The Foot Knight is often the last one standing due to the extra durability and this talent helps revived teammates survive long enough to get a grasp on the situation.
Level 15: Defensive Formation (Increases damage reduction from Protective Presence by 5%)
Going from 15% to 20% may not be much, but it could be just enough to survive another attack.
Level 20: Soldier’s Spirit (Kills grant 2 temporary health)
Level 25: Glory Hound (Valiant Charge also grants 25% power for 10 seconds)
In truth, all the level 25 talents are good, I personally recommend Glory Hound because the Foot Knight’s only flaw is damage output and this talent helps to remedy that, it also allows you to kill blightstormers leeches and globadiers with one shot from a handgun.
Weapons
Melee: Halberd/Warhammer. These two weapons are probably the best that Kruber wields.
Ranged: Handgun. The handgun is a solid choice for dealing with the special enemies that pose a threat to your team.
Weapon trait: Conservative Shooter
12. Handmaiden
While she is useful for supporting frontline heroes, her Dash career skill makes her a threat on her own, able to reposition herself to not only deal with the opposition but also rescue her teammates.
Talents
Level 5: Wraithwillow Stance (Increases effective block and push angle by 50%)
Useful enough on its own, but considering that you may need to dash into the thick of a horde, the extra block/push angle will come in handy.
Level 10: Eldrazor’s Precision (Increases power by 15% but reduces attack speed by 5%)
The reduced attack speed is a small price to pay for the significant power boost. Besides, you can mitigate the cost with weapon traits and properties.
Level 15: Shadowstep (Further increases dodge distance by 20%)
Coupled with the 15% extra dodge distance the Handmaiden gets already and you’ll be hard to catch.
Level 20: Khaine’s Thirst (Kills grant 2 temporary health)
Level 25: Gift of Ladrielle (Kerillian disappears for 3 seconds after using Dash)
3 seconds is a short time, but the invisibility can be just the thing you need to revive a teammate that’s in a perilous situation.
Weapons
Melee: Glaive. Debatably the best melee weapon Kerillian has.
Weapon trait: Swift Slaying
Ranged: Longbow. A versatile weapon, especially useful for dealing with special enemies.
11. Huntsman
The Huntsman’s single target damage is unrivaled. He is not afraid of bosses, if they knew better, they’d be afraid of him.
Talents
Level 5: Keep ‘Em Coming (Increases reload speed by 20%)
The ranged weapon is your big damage dealer, this talent gets it ready to fire again sooner.
Level 10: Make ‘Em Bleed (Critical hits cause enemies to take 20% more damage for a short duration. Does not stack with similar effects (some of the other careers have identical effects, these do not stack, but it does with other effects from different sources.)
A fairly versatile damage boost talent and a good choice for killing bosses quicker. It can be triggered by melee attacks as well.
Level 15: Taal’s Blessing (Markus recovers 2 ammunition from scoring headshots)
This talent paired with the Waste Not, Want Not ability keeps you stocked up on ammo.
Level 20: Soldier’s Spirit (Kills grant 2 temporary health)
Level 25: I’m Coming for Ya (Markus gains a 20% power increase during Hunter’s Prowl)
Yet another boon for the Huntsman to kill bosses jaw-droppingly fast.
Weapons
Melee: Halberd. The Halberd is one of the most powerful weapons in the game, might as well bring it along.
Ranged: Handgun. Only drawback of the handgun is the reload time, this isn’t a problem for the Huntsman.
Weapon trait: Barrage/Hunter
10. Ironbreaker
Seemingly indestructible, the Ironbreaker can protect his team from almost any assault.
Talents
Level 5: Stoutfellow (Increases max health by 20%)
Bonus health and the 30% damage reduction from Dwarf-forged go well together.
Level 10: Miner’s Rythm (After landing a charged attack Bardin recovers stamina 40% faster for 2 seconds)
The Ironbreaker is usually the one that holds the enemy back while the rest of the team deals the damage, this talent allows you to keep the enemy at bay longer.
Level 15: Tunnel Fighter (Reduces the cooldown of Gromril Armour to 13 seconds)
With how much the Ironbreaker can endure, reducing the cooldown of Gromril Armour allows it to trigger even more often in fights.
Level 20: Grudge-Borne (Kills grant 2 temporary health)
Level 25: Oi! Wazzok! (Impenetrable taunt now forces monsters to attack Bardin)
This talent provides a chance to push bosses off a cliff as well as keeping their attention on you instead of your team.
Weapons
Melee: Axe and Shield. An axe and shield with the Opportunist trait allows you to contain almost anything, even a stormvermin patrol.
Weapon trait: Opportunist
Ranged: Handgun
Weapon trait: Conservative Shooter
9. Mercenary
A devastating force in melee combat, the Mercenary doesn’t make it easy for his enemies to get past him alive.
Talents
Level 5: Battle Scars (Increases healing effects by 30%)
Thanks to the Morale Boost career skill, you’ll usually have a good amount of temporary health which makes medical supplies more effective, with this talent healing droughts will give you most of your health back and medical supplies will often bring you to full health.
Level 10: The More the Merrier! (Increases power by 3% for every nearby enemy and stacks up to 5 times.)
Since the Mercenary is always in the thick of battle, the extra power will be useful.
Level 15: Strike Together (Paced Strikes spreads to nearby allies)
With this talent, anytime you hit 3 enemies in one swing, you and allies that are near you gain 10% attack speed for 6 seconds. Very good for when hordes attack on multiple fronts.
Level 20: Soldier’s Spirit (Kills grant 2 temporary health)
Level 25: Gabbler (Reduces cooldown of Morale Boost by 30%)
All the level 25 option are good, Gabbler is my personal preference since with it, Morale Boost is more likely to be available when you need it.
Weapons
Melee: Halberd
Ranged: Handgun
8. Pyromancer
A powerful ranged fighter, the Pyromancer blasts her enemies with fire before she finishes off the stragglers with melee.
Talents
Level 5: Martial Study (Increases attack speed by 5%)
A decent way to improve your damage output, could be just enough to ensure that you hit an enemy before they hit you.
Level 10: Ashen Form (Reduces damage taken when disabled by 50%)
Sometimes special enemies put you in a bad spot, this talent should mitigate that somewhat.
Level 15: One with the Flame (Critical Mass also increases attack speed by 2% per 8 overcharge, stack up to 5 times)
An overall good boost to attack speed since you’ll likely build overcharge throwing spells at a horde before engaging in melee.
Level 20: Soul Snare (Kills grant 2 temporary health)
Level 25: Fiery Heart (Reduces the cooldown of Burning Head by 30%)
Burning Head is a powerful career skill and is particularly good against special enemies, so this talent is a nice way to allow you to use your career skill more often.
Weapons
Melee: Mace/Sword
Ranged: Fireball Staff. The Hunter trait boost all damage from melee to the damage-over-time burn.
Weapon trait: Hunter
7. Ranger Veteran
Capable of fighting at a range and in close, the Ranger Veteran incorporates stealth to reposition himself as well as rescue his teammates.
Talents
Level 5: Apply Pressure (Increases effect of healing by 30%)
The Disengage ability can give you some time to heal mid-fight and this talent gives you even more health to work with.
Level 10: No Dawdling! (Increases movement speed by 5%)
Perhaps not the most noticeable improvement, but getting out of gas or troll bile sooner or closing the distance on a disable ally quicker could make a difference.
Level 15: Grungni’s Cunning (Increases ammo gained from Bardin’s Survivalist caches to 30%)
All the level 15 talents are good, but if you’re uncertain which one to pick, then Grungni’s Cunning is not a bad choice because it’s more general in nature.
Level 20: Grudge-Borne (Kills grant 2 temporary health)
Level 25: Ranger’s Ambush (Increases the duration of Disengage’s stealth to 14 seconds)
Even though you have to be in the area where you activated the ability to gain the bonus power and stealth, the Disengage skill is still pretty useful. The extra 4 seconds can be spent clearing out some of the enemies before you revive a teammate.
Weapons
Melee: Axe and Shield/Warhammer. The axe and shield helps when fending off a horde, while the warhammer does a good amount of damage which can be useful while under the effects of the Disengage stealth.
Ranged: Handgun/Crossbow/Grudge-Raker
The handgun and crossbow are good for killing special enemies. The grudge-raker is powerful against hordes, its only flaw is ammo count which the Ranger Veteran nullifies with a bonus 50% ammo capacity as well as the Survivalist ability.
6. Shade
A master of stealth, the Shade can hide from sight to save her teammates or assassinate her enemies.
Talents
Level 5: Shadowstep (Increase dodge distance by 20%)
A good choice for evading foes while waiting for your career skill to cooldown.
Level 10: Gladerunner (Increases movement speed by 5%)
Sometimes you don’t want to or can’t carry a grimoire with you, for that, this talent is a decent choice for repositioning yourself or getting to your target sooner.
Level 15: Ereth Khial’s Herald (Assassin’s blade is increased to 75% additional damage when attacking enemies from behind.)
A significant boost to single target damage, works well against bosses.
Level 20: Khaine’s Thirst (Kills grant 2 temporary health)
Level 25: Veilwalker (Increases duration of Infiltrate to 15 seconds)
Sometimes your whole team dies and you need to free them from capture and perhaps the additional 5 seconds is enough to reach them before the enemies catch you.
Weapons
Melee: Dual Daggers/Glaive. The glaive is still the best melee weapon for kerillian, but the dual daggers make it much easier to backstab things
Ranged: Longbow/Volley Crossbow
5. Slayer
The Slayer is a fearless warrior that leaps into the fray, getting stronger the more he fights.
Talents
Level 5: Stoutfellow (Increases max health by 25%)
As the Slayer, you’ll often be in middle of the fight, the extra health might keep you from going down.
Level 10: Oblivious to Pain (damage taken from one attack is reduced to 10 or half of its original value, whichever is highest)
The higher the difficulty setting, the more damage this talent reduces.
Level 15: Moving Target (Trophy Hunter also reduces damage taken by 10% for each stack)
A very good way to reduce damage since all you have to do to get Trophy Hunter stacks is hit something.
Level 20: Grudge-Borne (Kills grant 2 temporary health)
Level 25: No Escape (Leap also increases movement speed by 25% for the duration)
The movement speed boost will help you retreat, find the perfect position to fight the horde and keep up with a boss that’s chasing an ally.
Weapons
First melee: Dual Axes. The dual axes are perfect for getting Trophy Hunter stacks.
Second melee: Hammer/Warhammer/War Pick. You’ll need a weapon that’s good against hordes.
4. Unchained
Ferocious in both ranged and melee combat, the Unchained may still be a wizard, but she is not afraid to take the fight to her enemies.
Talents
Level 5: Form of the Fire Wind (Increases max overcharge by 25%)
Managing your overcharge level is critical to the Unchained, damage is reduced by half but that other half goes to your overcharge and your power increases based on how much overcharge you have. It should be a little easier to prevent overcharge based self-destructs with this talent.
Level 10: Seared Nerves (Revived allies take 50% less damage for 10 seconds)
As always with durable careers, you’ll probably be one of the last to go down so the talent has a higher chance of being used.
Level 15: Natural Talent (Reduces overcharge generated by 15%)
This talent allows you to use your ranged weapon a bit more without having to worry about venting.
Level 20: Soul Snare (Kills grant 2 temporary health)
Level 25: Tick, Tick, Tick… (Reduces the cooldown of Living Bomb by 30%)
Living Bomb, the Unchained’s career skill, is great to have at the ready in case your overcharge maxes out before your health fully depletes, either of which will bring you down. Therefore, the reduced cooldown is quite lovely.
3. Waywatcher
Firing a volley of arrows at her foes from afar, the Waywatcher is a force to be rekoned with when it comes to ranged combat.
Talents
Level 5: Morai Heg’s Scorn (Increases critical hit chance by 5%)
Scoring a critical hit on specials with more health like globadiers can still result in a one shot kill without having to hit them in the head.
Level 10: Daughter of the Hunt (While above 45% health, your critical hits receive a 30% power boost)
When combined with Morai-Heg’s Scorn, the damage output is decent against bosses.
Level 15: Rejuvenating Locus (Amaranthe also affects the other members of the party)
A solid choice to keep the team afloat until healing items are found.
Level 20: Khaine’s Thirst (Kills grant 2 temporary health)
Level 25: Asrai Focus (Reduces the cooldown of Trueshot Volley by 30%)
Trueshot Volley is great for eliminating threats like gutter runners and packmasters, so it’s nice to be able to use it regularly.
Weapons
Melee: Glaive
Ranged: Lonbow
2. Witch Hunter Captain
Guiding his allies to strike a common target, the Witch Hunter Captain bolsters the team with his leadership.
Talents
Level 5: Charmed Life (Increases dodge range by 20%)
Always nice to have some space between you and the opposition.
Level 10: Suffer No Heresy (Reduces damage taken while disabled by 50%)
It can’t be avoided forever, you’ll get caught by a packmaster or a gutter runner eventually, might as well mitigate the damage when you do get disabled.
Level 15: Wild Fervour (Grants the team an 8% increase in crit chance for 4 seconds when a tagged enemy dies.)
Many would consider the 2 temporary health talent, but that’s not a lot of health to be fair, so in my opinion, a crit focused build aided by wild fervour is better since crits are a good boost of damage that also stuns most enemies.
Level 20: Righteous Zeal (Kills grant 2 temporary health)
Level 25: Redoubled Purpose (Reduces the cooldown of Animosity by 30%)
Career skills that provide a stun that can save an ally are good to have ready, so recharging them quickly is always a good idea.
Weapons
Melee: Falchion/Flail/Rapier. Lot of options for melee weapons, even the rapier because the headshot from melee and the special attack can instantly kill man-sized enemies if it triggers a critical hit.
Ranged: Brace of Pistol/Crossbow. The brace of pistols works well with the Witch-Hunt ability and the crossbow is good against special enemies.
1. Zealot
The Zealot is efficient at slaughtering his enemies, when wounded, he becomes all the more dangerous.
Talents
Level 5: Saint of Battle (Increases critical hit chance by 5%).
Serves as a good companion to the Holy Crusader talent and even on its own it’s a decent (chance based) damage boost.
Level 10: Flagellant (Damage taken from one attack is reduced to 10 damage or half of its original value, whichever is highest)
This talent gives you a tremendous increase in durability, which will help to prevent your invincibility perk from triggering needlessly.
Level 15: Holy Crusader (Fiery Faith also increases power boost of critical hits by 10% per 25 health missing. This effect stacks up to 5 times)
When the Heart of Iron ability triggers, you don’t need to worry about defense since you cannot be killed for the effects duration. You should instead focus on killing as many enemies as you can. Score a crit while your health is low and you will obliterate anything that you hit.
Level 20: Righteous Zeal (Kills grant 2 temporary health)
Level 25: Pleasure from Pain (Holy Fervour causes Victor to restore 2 temporary health for each successful hit)
While I prefer the Blessed Frenzy talent, I think many players will favor the extra health. Temporary health does decrease your power boosting stacks, but the greater durability is more than a fair trade.
Weapons
Melee: Flail. The stun power of this weapon makes it one of the best melee weapons in the game. The only thing holding it back is that the windup leaves you open to being interrupted by incoming attacks. The Zealot leaves a much shorter window of time for a hit to stop his attack.
Ranged: Crossbow. Just like any other melee focused career, the Zealot would rather smack than shoot, unless it’s something important like a blightstormer. Therefore the crossbow is probably the best option.
