10 Coolest World of Warcraft Mounts of All Time And How To Get Them

world of warcraft, wow, mmorpg, world of warcraft mounts
One of the rarer flying mounts in World of Warcraft, the Azure Cloud Serpent is a beauty to behold in the skies of Azeroth.

How Many of These Awesome WoW Mounts Do You Have?

Whether they are grounded or flying, mounts are how we get around in WoW. In the early days where you had to walk everywhere up to level 40, the fact that you even had a mount, even a slow one, was a matter of prestige. Nowadays, everyone playing the game has one, but there are some mounts that are hard to obtain and distinguish their owner from the rest of the masses riding on their Pintos and Bronze Drakes. Let’s check them out.

1. Netherwing Drake

The dark colors of the Netherwing Dragon pay homage to its Outland roots.

Locked behind one of the hardest reputation grinds in Burning Crusade and the game altogether, Netherwing Drakes are definitely worth the effort. Shatter the skies of known and unknown worlds with these neon beasts available for 200 gold a pop once you hit exalted.

How To Get The Netherwing Drake:

2. Rivendare's Deathcharger

If you've got it, flaunt it.

Odds are, you’ve probably got a WoW friend who has spent countless hours in Stratholme looking for the elusive mount of Baron Rivendare. With its staggering 0.8% drop chance, it is certainly one of the rarest mounts available ingame.

How To Get Rivendare's Deathcharger:

3. Bloodfang Widow

Skitter to victory on the back of the Widow!

It’s a giant badass spider you can ride around on. It costs two million gold. You’d best hope your raid members don’t have arachnophobia.

How To Get The Bloodfang Widow:

4. Raven Lord

You used to need a Druid to just summon the boss who drops the Raven Lord.

This majestic mount is one of the rarer ones in game with its drop chance of 1.7%. Thankfully, you can run Sethekk Halls every day in order to get a shot at getting it. A more realistic shot than the Deathcharger.

How To Get The Raven Lord:

5. Ashes of Al'Ar

Curiously enough, neither the Ashes of Al'ar nor its reskin, the Dark Phoenix have a walking animation.

During The Burning Crusade, this mount was the Lamborghini of World of Warcraft. If you went away from your PC in Shattrath City while mounted, you would certainly find yourself surrounded by a mob of people once you came back. It’s still regarded as one of the prettiest mounts in the game.

How To Get The Ashes of Al'Ar:

6. Invincible

The steed of Arthas Menethil that he rode into battle as he ravaged Lordaeron.

The mount of the infamous Arthas Menethil, who later turned into the Lich King was a real jaw dropper in late WotLK. Having this meant you were part of a very elite guild who managed to beat one of the toughest boss encounters to date, Arthas himself on hard mode. Today, getting the mount remains a hassle because you can only run Icecrown Citadel once a week, and the drop chance is a low, low 1%.

How To Get Invincible:

7. Swift Zulian Panther

Even though it's just a reskin of the classic Night Elf mount, it's the prettiest one out there.

A fan favorite and classic, the beautiful Zulian Panther can be obtained from High Priestess Kilnara in Zul’Gurub. Good luck though, it only has a 1.31% chance to drop.

How To Get The Swift Zulian Panther:

8. Fathom Dweller

Travel the depths of the seas of Azeroth in style.

Water-only mounts are a niche category and there are only a couple of them available to the player. Fathom Dweller is a hidden mount in Legion that requires you to go through the Broken Isles and finish a world quest. Cool doesn’t have to mean hard to obtain!

How To Get The Fathom Dweller:

9. Fossilized Raptor

Riding the Fossilized Raptor must be really uncomfortable.

The Fossilized Raptor can be obtained through archaeology and is one of the rarer finds, although it is not too difficult to obtain. Be prepared to dig if your luck lets you down, however.

How To Get The Fossilized Raptor:

10. Mimiron's Head

A raid such as Ulduar has to have an appropriately cool mount to go with it. Mimiron's head more than fits the criteria.

One of the goofier mounts but still awesome nonetheless, Mimiron’s head is a reward for killing him on hard mode in Ulduar 25 man mode. Since Cataclysm, the drop rate was nerfed heavily to 1.31%, previously having been a certain drop upon a kill.

How To Get Mimiron's Head:

If you own one or more of these mounts, you can rest assured that you have a piece of WoW history sitting in your bags; something that is bound to turn heads as you drive, ride or fly past!
