‘Siberia’ is a name that has long been associated with freezing cold, extreme suffering, and death, given its reputation as a prison for the wealthy after the revolution that gave rise to the Soviet Union, and as a prison for enemies of the Union or hardened criminals.
Being sent to the Gulag in Siberia was tantamount to a death sentence, and no doubt many that were sent there would have readily chosen death over the Gulag.
In ‘Expedition Zero’ players head to Siberia to investigate an anomaly and reports of a monster in the forest.
The anomaly, or whatever causes it, has corrupted the forest, and as players explore the forest for clues they must beware of the monsters that lurk within, choosing to run, hide, or fight and doing whatever it takes to survive their encounters with corrupted beings in the forest.
The forest also hides abandoned Soviet research facilities where cruel and mysterious military research and experiments took place. Players must fight to survive the monsters in the forest, as well as the extreme elements of Siberia, with freezing temperatures, snowstorms, and the risk of getting lost and dying of starvation or dehydration.
‘Expedition Zero’ allows players to gather resources and craft weapons and materials to help them with their research and in their fights. Additionally, players can build cabins, or “safe points” where they can rest and recuperate, safe from the elements and the monsters in the forests.
Players must uncover the truth about the anomaly, the Soviet research facilities and their purpose, and the corrupted monsters lurking in the forest. They must also face off against, and defeat the monsters, or face certain death.
‘Expedition Zero’ is developed by ‘Enigmatic Machines’ and is on Steam.
