Modern Warfare approaches its one-year mark with another significant content drop, but again demands a lot of space.
Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare entered its fifth season on August 5th. Like previous updates, this one delivers new weapons, balance changes, new maps, and new additions to the free-to-play battle-royal mode Warzone in a storage-hoarding package.
According to the Official Season Five Trailer released just days earlier, the new update adds a moving train to Warzone’s Verdansk and the opening of the once blocked-off stadium. Also included are two new operators, two new weapons, two new 6v6 maps for multiplayer, one new Gunfight map, and a new Ground War map.
PS4 owners even got to pre-load the patch ahead of time. This appears to only apply to PS4, and Xbox/PC players still had to wait until the official launch. When asked why the pre-load is exclusive to PS4, Activision stated that neither Xbox nor Battle.net support pre-downloads for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare or Warzone.
Modern Warfare has become infamous for its large space requirements, and it’s no secret that many players often sacrifice other titles to make room for Infinity Ward’s juggernaut. The Season Five patch is no different, requiring 165GB of free space on PS4, but only around 50GB for Xbox and PC. Although the PS4's large requirement is neccessary for successful to pre-downloads since player's will need to redownload the June update.

Paul Haile, production director on Modern Warfare, took to Twitter to reassure fans that the large file size includes all the new content and optimization tweaks for asset packs but will also ultimatley reduce the size.
this means the download will be big, but the overall size of the game will actually shrink on your consoles after you download the patch, even though we're adding a bunch of new content for the season.

Haile then acknowledged Modern Warfare’s tendency to require mass amounts of storage and reminded players, “It’s a priority for us to keep working on reducing the overall size of MW & WZ… We’ll continue to work on this and keep pushing space reductions with future updates.”
The Season Five update is available now for PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One.
