Disco Elysium has a lot of freedom in determining what type of cop you want to play. You can be the good cop, the bad cop, or even the boring cop. Part of choosing your kind of cop will also force you to take the route of politics. Specific political thoughts will start to crop up throughout your game, and it’s up to you which ideology you want to subscribe towards.
Each political alignment the game offers has its positives and shortcomings. These varying politics make the game so much fun to play over and over again. If you’re not sure which route to pursue and the type of copy you want to play, here’s a handy guide on the top political alignments and what makes them preferable.
1. Communism
One of the most revolutionary is Communism, the left-wing political movement of socialism based on workers’ rights. Adopting these politics will make you more sympathetic to the working class and better be able to align with those closer to communism. Communism will also give you access to the thoughts of Mazovian Socio-Economics and The Suicide of Kras Mazov, which is one of the better thoughts since it improves your morale if you fail to clear white checks. This is in line with the identification of Communism as being all about failure and learning to accept and improve, which is ideal for playing such a failed cop like Harry.
Communism Pros:
- Access The Suicide of Kras Mazov thought process to improve Morale when you fail checks.
- Become better able to connect with Cindy The Skull and paint on walls.
- Hook up with the student communism group.
Choose Communism if you want to…
- Embrace workers’ rights.
- Be a rebel against a corrupt world.
- Gain the thought processes of Mazovian Socio-Economics and The Suicide of Kras Mazov.
2. Moralism
If you want to be more like Kim, Moralism can help you get closer to his sense of duty. Moralism is the favorable route for keeping yourself clean and responsible. It will also make you seem so normal you may even be a boring cop. You can finally quit doing drugs and alcohol, especially with the Opioid Receptor Antagonist thought process. This is essentially the ideology of sobriety as far as your character is concerned.
Moralism Pros:
- Access to Opioid Receptor Antagonist thought process to remove effects of drugs and alcohol.
- Access to the Kingdom of Conscience thought process, which improves your morale.
- It makes you more stable for doing the right thing.
Choose Moralism if you want to…
- Get clean and sober.
- Be a normal cop.
- Get on Kim’s good side.
3. Ultraliberalism
Being an ultraliberal makes you a greedy man that is driven by money. Per the ideology of liberalism, you’ll be all about capitalism and find the best ways to make your riches. Recognizing the desire for wealth, you’ll be able to better speak with people like Joyce and her Wild Pines Group. This route is handy if you want to buy as much as possible from the pawn shop and the street seller. One of the more unique routes under this alignment is the Bankruptcy Sequence thought process which literally pays you failing white checks. Be sure to visit the Mega Rich Light Bending Guy in the shipping container to show off how liberal you are to get a huge chunk of change.
Ultraliberalism Pros:
- Access the thought processes of Indirect Modes of Taxation, The Fifteenth Indotribe, and Bankruptcy Sequence.
- Better bartering skills for buying more stuff.
- Make money from your failures.
Choose Ultraliberalism if you want to…
- Haggle for the best price.
- Gain money from the Mega Rich Light Bending Guy.
- Find the most unlikely routes for more money.
4. Fascism
Fascism shouldn’t require much explanation about how it’s easily the evilest of routes to pursue. The tenants of fascism center around far-right political ideology about a mythic past where only the strong will survive. It also centers around a certain egotism, so the physique stats have to be high for this type of run. Becoming a fascist will ultimately make you racist, sexist, homophobic, and a paranoid creep around everybody who doesn’t fit your ideal worldview. Only choose this route if you want to be the absolute worst cop.
Fascism Pros:
- It makes you friends with Metalhead for adopting his Advanced Race Theory.
- Quickly learn Revachol’s chaotic history by befriending the fascist soldier René Arnoux.
- Enhance physical traits and ego.
Choose Fascism if you want to…
- Be a nationalist.
- Befriend racists and xenophobes.
- Make your partner Kim feel deeply uncomfortable.
