In Chivalry 2, you’ll stumble upon plenty of weapons for every class. Javelins, bows, greatswords, regular swords, maces, two-handed hammers, and many more items can destroy your enemies, either by slashing them to death, dismembering them or just crushing their heads into a million pieces.
So it’s important to talk about which blades, hammers, or ranged weapons are the greatest - how much damage they deal, how fast they are, whether are they practical, etc. Without further ado, let’s go with the first weapon:
10. Javelins
Extremely annoying.
Why are these throwable spears despised by most players? Because of their high attack speed, it’s very difficult to block hits from the Javelin. You can equip yourself with a shield and engage in regular, melee-to-melee fights or just throw them from afar - headshots are insta-kills, while body shots inflict massive amounts of damage.
The worst thing about this weapon is that it can only be used by archers - this class is pretty squishy, it can even be 1-shotted by a greatsword or a Highlander. If you lose your shield, it’ll be pretty much impossible to block strikes from multiple enemies, so it’s important to play with your teammates.
What this weapon does great:
- Great at 1v1s
- Easy to overwhelm your enemies
- Can be throwable
What this weapon excels in:
- High attack speed
- Decent accuracy while thrown
- Massive damage to the body
9. Maul
Hammer time!
This weapon can solely be used by the Vanguard class - it inflicts massive amounts of blunt damage and a direct hit to the head with this thing can seriously cause some brain damage to your enemy, sometimes even crack it like an egg.
This weapon becomes even more dangerous because of the leaping ability - a special ability that can only be used by the Vanguards. It causes your class to perform a charge attack and obliterate anyone who stands in front of you.
Weapon stats:
- Slow attack speed
- High damage per hit
- Drains stamina heavily
What this weapon excels in:
- Some classes can get instantly killed from heavy+leap attacks
- Multiple attacks from this weapon can disarm your enemy
- Players who know how to manage their stamina can be pretty dangerous with this weapon
8. Glaive
The range!
One thing that I’ve noticed about this weapon is its range and the ability to keep multiple people away from you or your teammates. The damage from swinging this weapon might not be that impressive but the stab attack deals a bit more damage, plus the range makes it impossible for your enemy to attack you.
Things get tricky if you allow an enemy to get close to you, getting outnumbered is also pretty much a death sentence. Stick with your team, try to play the objective and you should be good.
Weapon stats:
- Above-average attack speed
- High damage(stab attack)
- Low stamina usage
What this weapon excels in:
- Can strike multiple enemies at once(CC)
- The stabbing attack can deal plenty of damage, useful for 1v1 scenarios
- The range is pretty OP and can be used to keep your opponents at a safe distance
7. Two-Handed Spear
No, you can't do that in the game.
Twice as annoying as the Javelin. The main difference is the range, you can poke the hell out of your enemies and keep them at a long distance at the same time. Unbelievably annoying to deal with, especially when a prick wielding this crap weapon decides to spam taunts each time he kills you.
But there are issues - the damage is not that high and if you are outnumbered or just simply outsmarted, you’re gonna get whacked. You need to be constantly aware of your surroundings, so it’s best to use this weapon in the third-person mode.
Weapon stats:
- High attack speed
- Average attack damage
- Drains little stamina
What this weapon excels in:
- The range is superb and will keep you safe most of the time
- Easy to overwhelm your enemies with stab attacks
- Most players WILL NOT know how to play against this weapon
6. War Axe
Designed for beheadings.
This type of axe was designed specifically for large-group scenarios, due to its range and relatively high damage output, you can swing this thing around and wreak havoc on Agathians, Masons, or Tenosians. Additionally, the overhead attacks can surpass blocks and catch your enemies off-guard.
For an axe, this weapon has a great range, which makes it both great for group skirmishes, as well as 1v1 scenarios. The weapon is not that hard to maneuver, however, you might struggle against players who use lighter weapons.
Weapon stats:
- Above-average damage
- Above-average range
- Decent attack speed for an axe
What this weapon excels in:
- Can surpass blocks if you maneuver it correctly(drag attacks, etc)
- Pretty good for 1v1 scenarios due to its range and damage
- Also performs fairly great in massive battles, horizontal attacks can hit multiple people in one go
5. Two-handed hammer
Is it like the Maul?
Nope. The name might suggest that this is a heavy weapon but it’s more known for overhead attacks and high attack speed, which allows for a constant barrage of “mwwheeldown” attacks. In terms of 1v1 scenarios, the weapon performs pretty well - the range will keep your enemy far away, plus the damage should be more than enough to eliminate him if he gets too close.
Its swing attacks are not that great in bigger battles, so you should stick to flanking and just surprise-attacking your enemies.
Weapon stats:
- Average damage(it depends on the class you’re dealing damage to)
- High attack speed
- Below-average stamina usage
What this weapon excels in:
- Annoying, constant overhead attacks
- High range, which makes it somewhat great in 1v1 scenarios
- Possible to hit enemies, even if they’re blocking
4. Longswords
Not bad.
Longswords are a common weapon, used by the Officer subclass. They don’t weigh much, which means that you can swing them quite fast and repeatedly. The damage is not as high as that of a Greatsword or a Highlander sword but you can still destroy your enemies with well-put attacks.
If you’re a new player, remember to feign, dodge, and block - simply swinging this newbie weapon won’t get you far!
Weapon stats:
- Average damage
- High attack speed
- Above-average range
What this weapon excels in:
- The most balanced weapon out there(damage, range, stamina usage, speed, etc)
- Lowest-level weapon for the Officer
- Great both in 1v1 scenarios and massive battles
3. Greatswords
Swords that are great.
Greatswords are slightly slower than longswords, although they deal more damage. Blades of this type are especially great in large skirmishes - swing attacks are unbelievably OP, because of this weapon’s range, as well as damage, you can hit multiple people at once.
When it comes to 1v1 scenarios, the weapon’s speed will help you land more hits but keep in mind that you have to block, sidestep, and drag your attacks. Managing your stamina is also important, don’t just unnecessarily swing your weapon or you’ll run out of stamina, get disarmed, and eventually be killed.
Weapon stats:
- Above-average attack speed
- Relatively high attack damage
- Medium stamina usage
What this weapon excels in:
- Thanks to the high range and decent damage output, this weapon is excellent for crowd control
- It’s also pretty fast, which makes it one of the greatest weapons to be used in 1v1 duels
- It’s like the Longsword, but on steroids
2. Messer
Will mess your face up…
The Messer is a sword used by the Raider class, exclusively by the Vanguard subclass. This odd sword is known for its heavy damage output(although it was nerfed a little bit through the year), but it still manages to wreck opponents.
It’s hard to predict the attacks from this weapon, plus overhead attacks, as well as leap attacks, can be rather deadly - especially against Archers and other squishy classes that don’t know their surroundings very well…
Weapon stats:
- Above-average damage output(depends on the class you’re attacking)
- Average attack speed
- Medium stamina usage
What this weapon excels in:
- Overhead attacks can surpass blocks from weapons and shields, can gush out plenty of damage as well
- Leap attacks can also 1-shot some enemies if you’re lucky
- Works great in 1v1 scenarios, as well as skirmishes due to its range and attack animations
1. Highlander Sword
The big daddy of all swords.
The Highlander Sword is one of the heaviest and toughest swords to play against - getting hit by this thing will HURT YOU BADLY. Archers and Footmen are likely to get 1-shotted from this sword, plus swinging this piece of metal in a massive battle will hit multiple people at once, as well as deal massive amounts of damage. There’s no other weapon that can turn the tide of battle as fast as this one.
But there are also issues - this thing is slow and any other stupid dagger or Javelin will poke you to death. Additionally, running out of stamina is quite common with this blade, which entails disarmament and death. Still, if you keep your distance and learn the slow movements of this sword, you will most definitely destroy any enemy you see!
Weapon stats:
- Very high damage output
- Very high range
- Very slow attack speed
What this weapon excels in:
- Heavy, horizontal attacks in battles can kill or severely injure multiple people at once
- Can instakill Archers/Footmen with a heavy attack
- Overhead attacks not only deal massive amounts of damage, but they can also surpass blocks
