[Top 15] Epic Seven Best Heroes That Are Powerful (Latest Patch)

11 Aug 2022

The most coveted units in gacha games are those considered "top tier".

Epic Seven is one of the best gacha games on the market right now, mixing stunning 2D animated visuals with fun gameplay. It’s no wonder that the game has such a dedicated fanbase! With that being said, here are 15 of the most powerful heroes you can get in Epic Seven after the latest patch.

15. Ran

Tied with Kayron as the unit with the highest base speed in the game, Ran has a lot of utility when it comes to Arena, Guild War, and RTA.

What makes Ran great:

High base speed

  • With a base speed of 129, Ran can easily reach over 300 speed with the proper gear, making him one of the fastest openers in the game.

Buff strip

  • Being fast is one thing, but Ran also can strip two buffs from the enemy. On top of that, with his soul burn, he can ignore effect resistance, making it so that even the units with the highest resistance can’t stop his skill effects.

Useful debuffs

  • Ran applies the stigma and defense break debuffs to enemies, increasing your team’s damage potential and decreasing enemy healing and combat readiness increases.

14. Yulha

One of the newest 5* units in the game at the time of writing, Yulha has proven herself to be a great counter to certain units in the current meta.

What makes Yulha great:

Class type

  • Being an earth knight, Yulha naturally has bulk alongside her color-typing, allowing her to absorb a great amount of damage while acting as bait for fire-type units (particularly Hwayoung) in AI-controlled game modes like Arena or Guild War.

Passive ability

  • Yulha’s passive can reflect 30% of the damage dealt to her by single attacks and activates Murderous Intent once her health dips below 30%, granting her a full cleanse, a thick barrier, and a significant combat readiness push. This protects her from additional damage while also allowing her to use her third skill without hindrance.

Skill 3

  • Yulha’s third skill is similar to tried-and-true unit Krau’s, ignoring defense while dealing damage based on her amount of lost HP and restoring her own HP if the enemy is defeated. As the premier Hwayoung bait unit, Yulha can deal damage to Hwayoung with her passive, then finish off Hwayoung or one of Hwayoung’s teammates with the damage her third skill does.

13. Summertime Iseria

While she may need the aid of her teammates to live up to her full potential, Summertime Iseria’s bombs can make a big splash in battle.

What makes Summertime Iseria great:

Bombs

  • Of all the units in the game with bombs as part of their kit, Summertime Iseria might be the one that utilizes them best. When using her signature artifact, Star of the Deep Sea, Summertime Iseria can reliably apply bombs regardless of if her attack hits or misses. Bombs, if they aren’t resisted, will explode after a certain amount of turns, dealing huge damage and stunning the target.

Passive ability

  • While Summertime Iseria will be applying bombs most turns with her basic skill, her passive gives her great utility: upon an AOE attack by a teammate, the Suppress! skill will activate, pushing your team’s combat readiness by 15% and applying a bomb to two random enemies. Her passive also boosts her base attack and prevents her from making critical hits, allowing her to use her bombs and signature artifact to their greatest ability.

Free soul burn

  • Summertime Iseria has the chance to apply one additional bomb without any teammate’s help with the free soul burn mechanic on her basic skill. This can allow her to plant up to three bombs before detonating them with her third skill. Subsequent soul burns will require the usage of souls, but by not requiring souls on the first burn, your team requirements ease significantly.

12. Lionheart Cermia

A long-awaited addition to the Moonlight 5* roster, Lionheart Cermia proved that she was worth the wait with her anti-meta abilities.

What makes Lionheart Cermia great:

Passive ability

  • Lionheart Cermia’s passive ability makes her an incredible foil to counter-heavy teams. For any extra attack, counter attack, or dual attack from the enemy, Lionheart Cermia can activate her ability Shine!, granting her increased effect resistance, increased defense, and 50 Fighting Spirit, enabling her to use her third skill.

Skill 3

  • Lionheart Cermia’s third skill is an AOE attack that penetrates enemy defense by 50% with damage scaling on her defense stat. She is also granted an unconditional extra turn after  this attack, allowing her to cycle through her turns faster.

Bulk

  • Because her damage scales with defense, Lionheart Cermia can and should be built with defensive bulk. This makes her sturdy in addition to allowing her to deal a significant amount of damage.

11. Angel of Light Angelica

Perhaps one of the most controversial units in the game at the time of her release, Angel of Light Angelica (AOL) is still a tour-de-force in the game’s current meta.

What makes Angel of Light Angelica great:

Non-attack skills

  • AOL possesses two non-attack skills as part of her kit: her skill 3 and her passive skill. Because these attacks don’t do damage to the enemy, there isn’t any chance of retaliation (from most units), allowing certain mechanics like evasion and counters to be ignored.

Passive ability

  • AOL has a stacked passive, which prevents her from being stunned, cleanses one debuff from the entire team and applies a skill nullifier effect upon an AOE enemy attack. It also boosts her combat readiness by 8% for each ally attacked except for herself. This can neuter enemy damage and provide great team utility while allowing AOL to cycle her turns faster.

Silence and unbuffable debuffs

  • AOL’s two main debuffs are powerful, preventing enemies from gaining buffs while preventing them from using anything but their basic skill for one turn. She also strips two buffs from the enemy before applying her skill 3 debuffs. This debilitates units who rely on buffs and prevents them from doing anything too important when it’s time for them to attack.

10. Mediator Kawerik

After his buff, Mediator Kawerik gained a whole lot of power - and left his “mediocre” nickname in the dust.

What makes Mediator Kawerik great:

Skill 3

  • When Mediator Kawerik’s third skill is available, he can decrease the duration of debuffs on himself by one turn. This makes him a great answer to units that apply single-turn debilitating debuffs, such as AOL. He then cleanses and provides immunity and increased attack to all teammates for two turns.

Build versatility

  • With increases to his HP-scaling damage multipliers, Mediator Kawerik can be built in a variety of ways depending on how you want to use him. Build him with very high defense and HP to let him last longer on the battlefield, or build him with crit and high HP to let him make use of those great multipliers.

Team utility

  • After his buffs, Mediator Kawerik has become the ultimate team player with each of his skills. He can cleanse debuffs and apply important buffs, grant a barrier to his entire team, and increase the combat readiness of the ally highest up on the timeline. He also has a team attack imprint and can use the popular team attack-increasing artifact War Horn, allowing his allies to hit even harder.

9. Designer Lilibet

The premier dark cleanser after Mediator Kawerik, Designer Lilibet has a few key attributes to set herself apart in the current meta after her buff.

What makes Designer Lilibet great:

Passive ability

  • Designer Lilibet can automatically cleanse herself of debuffs depending on the amount of debuffs that have been applied to her team. When she reaches full Fighting Spirit, she cleanses all debuffs off of herself, gains a defense buff, and increases her combat readiness by 40%, allowing her to deal more damage and cut in front of the enemy.

Cleanse and cooldown increase

  • With her third skill, Designer Lilibet can reduce her team’s debuff duration and increase their combat readiness while also increasing the enemy team’s skill cooldowns by one turn. For some units who rely on their second or third skills to turn the tides of battle, this cooldown increase can hinder their abilities at critical moments.

Bulk

  • With awakenings in HP and defense, Designer Lilibet can be built to last against enemy assaults. At the same time, her damage scales with her defense, allowing her to deal decent damage while retaining her survivability.

8. Emilia

Coming in as one of the best collaboration units in the game, she’ll capture your heart with her abilities and have you saying “I love Emilia” in no time.

What makes Emilia great:

Class type

  • Soul weavers gained two significant buffs recently, both outside the battlefield with all soul weavers gaining additional base speed, and on the battlefield with soul weavers gaining an additional 7 speed in RTA currently. Soul weavers also have very strong artifacts, which increase Emilia’s usefulness exponentially.

Attack buff

  • Emilia can buff the attack of a teammate for two turns while also cleansing them of two debuffs and boosting their combat readiness by up to 50%. Units can move quicker and hit harder with her help.

Combat readiness manipulation

  • Emilia gains a huge amount of combat readiness herself on both her second and third skills. With cleanses on both skills and the ability to be built fast, she can cycle quickly, allowing her teammates to take more turns while she speeds along the timeline. Pair her with the artifact Magaraha’s Tome to see how fast she can move!

Emilia details: https://epic7x.com/character/emilia/

7. Politis

As a unit with meta significance over a year after her release, Politis remains useful on both sides of the battlefield.

What makes Politis great:

Passive ability

  • Politis has several significant effects in her passive, most of which activate when the enemy uses a non-attack skill. She attacks the enemy team, decreasing buff duration by one turn before pushing her own combat readiness. She also reduces the amount of combat readiness gained on the opposing team. She is one of the very few units in the game that counters non-attack skills.

Class type

  • Mage units have access to some of the most powerful artifacts in the game. Gain souls with Tagehel’s Ancient Book, stun enemies with Abyssal Crown, or strip enemy buffs with Iela Violin or Fairy Tale for a Nightmare - the possibilities are vast.

Build versatility

  • Politis is a unit that can be built in many different ways: tanky with high effectiveness but low damage; high damage but no effectiveness and very fragile; a mix of the two, etc. She will likely be an asset to your team due to the many different ways you can build her.

Politis details: https://epic7x.com/character/politis/

6. Belian

As one of only three Moonlight-exclusive 5* units in the game at the time of writing, Belian shook up the meta with her abilities upon release and cemented her place as a unit to fear.

What makes Belian great:

Passive ability

  • Belian’s passive can grant her random buffs each turn while also suppressing the enemy’s ability to gain souls. Soul burning is one of the core mechanics of the game and is integral to some team compositions or the usefulness of some units. By taking away this ability, Belian can neuter many different strategies.

Damage potential

  • While most knights are purely focused on survivability, Belian is most commonly built for damage while maintaining survivability due to her AOE attacks and innate HP-scaling.

Counters and injury

  • Due to her class type, Belian has access to the artifact Elbris Ritual Sword, giving her a chance to counterattack when an ally is attacked. If she is on an Injury set, she also can permanently reduce the enemy’s HP by up to 6% on each attack. With both of her attacking skills being AOE, this allows her to injure the entire enemy team on her own turn as well as when she counters, neutering popular HP-scaling units and reducing enemy survivability.

5. Rimuru

Just as his status as Demon Lord cemented him as a slime to be reckoned with in his home world, Rimuru has shown his strength in the current meta.

What makes Rimuru great:

Skill 3

  • Rimuru’s third skill is unaffected by elemental disadvantage, meaning he can successfully hit all kinds of units. If he hits successfully, his third skill will deal an additional 5000-10,000 damage to the enemy depending on the number of buffs on his team, allowing him to rip through units that build with high defense but lower HP.  Additionally, if the enemy has a buff, Rimuru can apply a two-turn defense break to the rest of the enemy team. On top of all that, his third skill copies two buffs from the enemy regardless of if it hits. Oh, and you can also soul burn it to lower its cooldown!

Buff copy

  • Rimuru has two ways to copy buffs from the enemy: with his passive, Analyze and Assess; and with his third skill. Each one allows him to copy two buffs from the enemy and apply those buffs to his whole team. His buff copy ignores effect resistance and applies even on misses.

Self-buff ability

  • Rimuru’s buff copying combines well with his basic skill, which grants him a random buff for one turn each time it is used. You can use this to stack buffs on himself to make him more difficult to deal with, while also building on buffs for his third skill.

Rimuru details: https://epic7x.com/character/rimuru/

4. Peira

Though only one speed point slower than Ran, Peira is an incredible opener and support in the current meta.

What makes Peira great:

Buff reduction

  • With her second skill, Peira reduces buff duration by one turn while applying unbuffable and restrict debuffs to the enemy. This neuters the enemy significantly and makes her essentially a better version of the previously-dominant Cerise (granting she doesn’t get messed up by the game’s innate 15% resist RNG).

High base speed

  • With a base speed of 128, Peira, like Ran, can reach over 300 speed, making her one of the best openers in the game.

Skill 3

  • Peira’s third skill grants her three significant buffs: stealth, a thick barrier, and escort, which grants her the ability to absorb some of the damage taken by allies in their place. She also buffs her team’s attack, allowing her teammates to take less damage while dealing more of it.

Peira details: https://epic7x.com/character/peira/

3. Conqueror Lilias

With her release at the end of 2021, Conqueror Lilias has proven why she lives up to her conqueror status on the battlefield.

What makes Conqueror Lilias great:

High base speed

  • With a base speed of 121, Conqueror Lilias falls slightly behind units like Ran and Peira, but can still reach incredibly high speeds with good gear, making her a great opener.

Vigor buff

  • Vigor is a unique buff that can’t be stripped, which Conqueror Lilias can apply to her entire team after she decreases enemy buff duration by one turn and lowers their attack. Vigor buffs attack and defense by 30%; while this is lower than a straight attack or defense buff, Vigor increases damage and survivability at the same time while also being able to stack its effects with regular buffs.

Forced dual attack

  • Like her RGB counterpart, Conqueror Lilias forces a random ally to dual attack when she uses her basic skill on the enemy. Depending on which unit she brings, this can change the tide of battle significantly.

Conqueror Lilias details: https://epic7x.com/character/conqueror-lilias/

2. Hwayoung

With her powerful ability as a tank buster, Hwayoung swiftly kicked her way into the meta and remains a dominant force in almost every game mode.

What makes Hwayoung great:

Passive ability

  • Hwayoung’s passive prevents her from making a critical hit, but grants her additional attack while also decreasing the damage she takes from critical hits by 30%. It also grants her a thick barrier at the end of each turn and the beginning of battle, making her a tanky unit despite having to build her with lower HP for maximum damage potential.

Skill 3

  • While Hwayoung can’t make a critical hit, her third skill doesn’t care - it still fully penetrates the target’s defense while increasing its damage based on the difference between Hwayoung and the target’s HP, meaning she can do upwards of 20k damage to a high HP enemy. It also cleanses her of all debuffs and grants her a two-turn immunity buff.

Quick cooldowns

  • Her third skill is only on a three-turn cooldown and can be soul burned for an extra turn, allowing Hwayoung to cycle through her tank-buster third skill easily and quickly.

Hwayoung details: https://epic7x.com/character/hwayoung/

1. Apocalypse Ravi

While it took her a long time to get to her current place in the meta, Apocalypse Ravi has cemented her status as one of the best bruisers in the game.

What makes Apocalypse Ravi great:

Bulk

  • Apocalypse Ravi has high base HP, and her damage scales based on it - meaning she can be built with very high HP and bulk while still dealing a ton of damage.

Passive ability

  • Apocalypse Ravi’s passive does a lot: it increases her base critical hit chance by 30%, it grants her a Fighting Spirit bar, and when she has Fighting Spirit, she can passively heal her own HP and increase her combat readiness by 15% each time she is hit. If you put her on a counter set to spam her first skill, which also recovers her health and grants her Fighting Spirit each time it is used, it can be difficult to wither Apocalypse Ravi down.

Revive

  • Apocalypse Ravi’s third skill increases its damage dealt up to three times for each unit on the battlefield that dies, and also scales on her HP. This means that it deals massive damage at max stacks. On top of that, if Apocalypse Ravi kills the enemy with this skill, she can revive one random ally with 30% health, grant them skill nullifier, and increase their combat readiness by 100%. Talk about a stacked kit!
