1. M18 smoke grenade (Green)
M18 smoke grenade (Green) stats
- Weight: 0.539 kg
- Explosion delay: 1 second
- Smoke emit duration: 90 seconds
I have never been a fan of using smoke grenades, having said this, they can still have their uses.
The one issue with smoke grenades in Escape from Tarkov is that you never have the opportunity to use them in gunfights to give yourself visible cover. This is apparent due to the fact that most gunfights end within one burst of gunfire.
While smoke grenades are useful, they can also attract unwanted attention from other PMCs, and because they are a defensive throwable item, they are ineffective in posing a threat to your enemies. This grenade is sold by Peacekeeper at level 2 for 36 dollars.
What the M18 smoke grenade excels at:
- Providing visible cover from smoke
- Affordable and accessible
- Being very noticeable due to its green smoke
2. RDG-2B smoke grenade
RDG-2B smoke grenade stats
- Weight: 0.6 kg
- Explosion delay: 3.5 seconds
- Smoke emit duration: 90 seconds
The other smoke grenade in Escape from Tarkov, the RDG-2B smoke grenade, is the Soviet version of the M18 with a longer smoke emission duration, ultimately making it a more effective grenade than its counterpart.
The smoke that this grenade produces is not green but white, as smoke is supposed to appear. Prapor level 1 sells this smoke grenade for around 5000 rubles. The only real issue with this grenade is that it occupies two slots instead of one, like all the other grenades in the game.
What the RDG-2B smoke grenade excels at:
- Providing visible cover from smoke
- Highly Affordable and accessible
- Having a longer duration of smoke emission to counterpart
3. “Zarya” stun grenade
“Zarya” stun grenade stats
- Weight: 0.175 kg
- Explosion delay: 2 seconds
- Contusion radius: 10 metres
- Stun effect duration: 40 seconds
- Contusion effect duration: 20 seconds
The “Zarya” stun grenade is probably one of the more common stun grenades within the game. This grenade can be purchased from Prapor at level 2, and it has a crafting option with a level 2 workbench. The craft requires five UZRGM grenade fuzes, one gunpowder “kite,” and one RDG-2B smoke grenade.
Stun grenades are very useful tools for combating bosses, along with fragmentation grenades, as they cause the bosses and their raiders to move ecstatically. This allows you to dump loads of ammunition into them while being somewhat safe.
If ever you think a boss has spawned, use grenades like stuns and frags to lure them out of hiding and into the open. This stun can be purchased for 7320 rubles per piece from Prapor.
What the “Zarya” stun grenade excels at:
- Being a light weighted grenade
- Blinding any and all foes within its blast radius
- Being relatively cheap
4. Model 7290 flash bang grenade
Model 7290 flash bang grenade stats
- Weight: 0.42 kg
- Explosion delay: 1.5 seconds
- Contusion radius: 10 metres
- Stun effect duration: 40 seconds
- Contusion effect duration: 20 seconds
Now onto the American equivalent of the “Zarya” stun grenade, the Model 7290, which is a heavier yet similarly effective Flash Bang grenade.
The only difference between these two grenades is the explosion delay and weight. On one side, you have a Russian-made, lightweight stun grenade, and on the other, an American Flash Bang that has a quicker detonation time.
Both of these grenades are also similar in price, so your choice should just come down to your overall preference between the grenades. They are both equally effective in all scenarios, with zero real downsides.
What the Model 7290 Flash Bang Grenade excels at:
- Having a low explosion delay
- Blinding any and all foes within its blast radius
- Being relatively cheap
- 5. F-1 hand grenade
5. F-1 hand grenade
F-1 hand grenade stats
- Weight: 0.6 kg
- Explosion delay: 3.5 seconds
- Explosion radius: 3-7 metres
- Contusion radius: 12 metres
- Fragments count: 90x F1 shrapnel
The F-1 hand grenade is a lethal defensive fragmentation grenade and is one of my personal go-tos for grenades. You can pick these grenades up from Prapor level 2 for 9156 rubles.
Due to the F-1 grenade's explosion radius, it is recommended that you take cover before throwing said grenade. You can also trade an ES lamp with Prapor at level 1 for a single F-1 grenade.
This grenade does carry some weight. Therefore, keep an eye on your character's weight to ensure you avoid going overboard.
What the F-1 hand grenade excels at:
- Producing high damage shrapnel
- Easily kills any person within its blast radius
- Having a manageable explosion delay to allow yourself to immerse yourself in cover before detonation
6. M67 hand grenade
M67 hand grenade stats
- Weight: 0.396 kg
- Explosion delay: 5 seconds
- Explosion radius: 4-8 metres
- Contusion radius: 11 metres
- Fragments count: 75x M67 Shrapnel
The American made M67 hand grenade is another mainstream frag grenade with a huge explosion delay and quite the explosion. Sacrificing some explosion delay for a larger explosion radius is the name of the game for this grenade.
This grenade is reasonably accessible, being available for 82 dollars from Peacekeeper level 3 and also tradeable for two Zibbo lighters from Peacekeeper level 2. This grenade is more common near the end of the wipe. Having said that, it doesn't mean you won't be killed by a few of them in the middle or even early part of the wipe.
What the F-1 hand grenade excels at:
- Producing high damage shrapnel
- Easily kills any person within its blast radius
- Having a long explosion delay to allow yourself to immerse yourself in cover before detonation
- Being decently weighted
7. RGD-5 hand grenade
RGD-5 hand grenade stats
- Weight: 0.31 kg
- Explosion delay: 3.5 seconds
- Explosion radius: 3-7 metres
- Contusion radius: 10 metres
- Fragments count: 70x RDG-5 Shrapnel
This type of fragmentation grenade is just as effective as the previous grenades, except for the M67, and is a little more expensive. This grenade is available at Prapor level 3 for 11822 rubles and is also tradeable at Prapor level 2 for 2 ES lamps.
You can also craft six of these grenades over the course of five hours using three grenade fuzes and two TP-200 TNT bricks. This craft requires a level 3 workbench in your hideout. Otherwise, the only difference between these grenades and the others is their absurd weight of 0.31kg. This is incredibly light for a fragmentation grenade.
What the RGD-5 hand grenade excels at:
- Producing high damage shrapnel
- Easily kills any person within its blast radius
- Being a light-weighted grenade
8. RGN and RGO hand grenades
RGN hand grenade stats
- Weight: 0.31 kg
- Explosion delay: 0.3 seconds on impact (3.5 seconds if impact fuze not triggered)
- Explosion radius: 2-5 metres
- Contusion radius: 13 metres
- Fragments count: 75x RDG-5 Shrapnel
RGO hand grenade stats
- Weight: 0.53 kg
- Explosion delay: 0.3 seconds on impact (3.5 seconds if impact fuze not triggered)
- Explosion radius: 2-7 metres
- Contusion radius: 12 metres
- Fragments count: 85x F1 Shrapnel
Moving onto the impact grenades of the game, the RGN and RGO hand grenades are the only impact-esque grenades in Escape from Tarkov.
These are used with accuracy to be highly effective, whereas other grenades are more commonly used the conventional way. The explosion radii of these grenades differ from the other grenades. As a result, using such a grenade requires precision.
To tell the difference between the two grenades, the RGN has a flat bottom, whereas the RGO has a spotted bottom. The image above showcases a RGN hand grenade.
What the RGN and RGO hand grenades excel at:
- Being the only impact grenades in the game
- Highly effective in combination with precision
- Being a simple solution to your combat problems
9. VOG-17 and VOG-25 Khattabka improvised hand grenades
VOG-17 hand grenade stats
- Weight: 0.28 kg
- Explosion delay: 3 seconds
- Explosion radius: 2-6 metres
- Contusion radius: 9 metres
- Fragments count: 100x RDG-5 Shrapnel
The VOG-17 is an improvised hand grenade that is only craftable at Mechanic Level 2 for one grenade fuze. This small hand grenade packs a large punch within its explosion radius simply due to the sheer amount of shrapnel this grenade produces.
Grenade fuzes are quite common, so making these grenades should be no problem at all. Otherwise, there is not much to say about this grenade except to consider it a cheaper option for a grenade.
VOG-25 hand grenade stats
- Weight: 0.25 kg
- Explosion delay: 2 seconds
- Explosion radius: 2-7 metres
- Contusion radius: 7 metres
- Fragments count: 35x F1 Shrapnel
This grenade is the VOG-17's big brother, and it can only be crafted with a level 1 workbench. In order to craft this grenade, you require one Leatherman multitool, five grenade fuzes, and five 40-mm VOG-25 grenades. The process takes slightly more than an hour and a half but results in eight VOG-25 grenades.
What the VOG hand grenades excel at:
- Being highly accessible
- Being a cheap option for a grenade
- Being light-weighted grenades
