10. Puppet/Marionette
Jumpscare Puppet.
Making its first appearance in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, the puppet is a tall, thin black and white character (apart from the purple tears and rosy features) resembling a marionette doll whose purpose was to keep the playing children safe inside the building. The puppet can be seen standing in a present box in the prize corner of the pizzeria.
During the Take Cake to the Children minigame, we see the tragic death of a child who was murdered that the puppet unfortunately could not keep safe. At the end of the mini game we see the child spirit possess the puppet.
Who is this child you ask? Charlotte Emily, Henry Emily’s daughter. Who killed her? William Afton, Henry's best friend and business partner.
In Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, while hiding from the animatronics and trying to survive, you are also responsible for winding up a music box that helps prevent the puppet from attacking.
The puppet is a very interesting character to note because it is an inanimate object possessed by William Afton’s first ever kill. We don’t find out who the child actually is until Scott Cawthins 6th game, Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator.
It is also a character who does not roam around the pizzeria attempting to attack (unless the music box is not reset), it shows relatively no danger (unless provoked) and looks uneasy just standing still inside of a box.
9. Freddy
Freddy is ready for his solo.
Everyone likes the OG cast for almost everything. Freddy appears in the very first FNAF (Five Nights at Freddy’s) game and is the leader of the original band at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria. You can see him wearing a black bowtie and tophat while holding a microphone.
Freddy is sneaky when it comes to scaring. He lurks in the shadows and laughs at you until he is ready to attack. His vengeful attacks are fueled by one of the missing children who was murdered by William. There is a chance to set this child spirit (and the other 4) free at the end of Five Nights at Freddy’s 3.
There are also 10 different variations of Freddy, all with their own backstories and people possessing them (most of whom were killed by William Afton in some way).
8. Springtrap
Lights, Camera, Closeup for Springtrap!
Springtrap, also known as Spring Bonnie, is a decaying and damaged animatronic showcased in Five Nights at Freddy’s 3. Looking like a scarier version of Bonnie, Springtrap is shown with various wires and broken parts all over his body. The story behind this character involves multiple spring lock suit failures, according to the phone guy (heard in Five Nights at Freddy’s).
While playing Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 you will be able to lure Springtrap into different rooms with distorted audio recordings. After the release of more FNAF games, we find out that William Afton (of course) was the one inside of the Springtrap suit, he is the antagonist for the 3rd game.
William did not willingly want to be in the Springtrap suit. The spring suits were made to be half animatronics and half a mascot uniform (that employees can wear). The only problem is that the spring locks snap into place when going from mascot form to animatronic form. William was hiding in the suit when rain water triggered the snapping mechanisms and locked him in place.
7. Ballora
Care to take a seat at the ballet?
Do you like ballet? If so, then you might like Ballora. First seen in Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister Location, Ballora is a human-like animatronic that can be seen wearing a tutu and is a part of the funtime animatronic series. She can also be heard at different times throughout the game, singing a very creepy and mono toned song.
Any animatronic character related to William Afton always has a good motive to be attacking anything. Ballora is high up on that list since it is theorized that she is possessed by William's wife, Clara Afton and was created to help him kidnap/murder children.
Make sure to keep quiet while exploring the different rooms Sister Location has to offer. Even though her eyes are closed, Ballora relies on hearing and will attack if she hears too much noise. During that attack phase the plates on her face open up revealing a terrifying animatronic.
6. Foxy
How is Foxy so fast with one eye?
Wanna stay for a bite? Out of all the animatronics in FNAF Foxy has the sharpest teeth. And, just like Freddy, Foxy is an OG animatronic that shows up in the first Five Nights at Freddy’s. He is an animatronic pirate fox with some missing fur, hook for a hand and an eyepatch.
Foxy is possessed by another missing child at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria. He also has more of a unique set up in the first game since you will see Foxy starts in his own area called Pirates Cove.
Even though he is not usually super active until night 3, he is one of the fastest animatronics in the game that you can actually see on the cameras, if you're not hiding from the jumpscares.
5. Baby
Baby on the Mic ready to perform.
Just like Ballora, Baby (also known as Circus Baby) makes her first appearance in Sister Location and is related to William Afton. Baby is Elizabeth Afton, William's daughter. She resembles a circus child clown with red pigtails, pale face, a red nose and small pins sticking out of her arms.
All of the animatronics in Sister Location were mistreated and imprisoned by Circus Baby’s Entertainment and Rental. When you first meet Baby she seems concerned and worried for you, even giving you hints of where to hide in the first few Nights. This is all a ruse. She is trying to seem sincere to lure you into the scooping room.
Unfortunately the scooping room is not for ice cream, this is where Baby takes you to be scooped and emptied so the animatronics can finally escape while using your hollow body as a host for Ennard.
4. Ennard
Cute hat for this tangled animatronic.
Remember the Circus Baby Enteritaiment and Rental scooping incideint? This is the creation of that incident. Ennard in a summed up version is one giant pile of tangled wires and eyes in an animatronic form. He also rocks a prop mask and a yellow party hat.
Ennard is the result of Circus Baby luring us into the scooping room. Funtime Freddy (circus themed version of Freddy), Funtime Foxy (the circus themed version of Foxy), Bon-Bon (the Bonnie hand puppet on Funtime Freddy’s hand), Circus Baby, and Ballora all combined to create Ennard.
At the end of Sister Location Ennard needs a human endoskeleton to safely escape the building and it uses us as a volunteer. When Ennard is leaving, we get a quick look in a mirror. We see purple eyes staring back at us, this is later to be relieved as Micheal Afton, the son of William Afton.
3. Glitchtrap
Purple eyes that stare into the soul Glitchtrap wants to take.
Glitchtrap is the main villain in Five Nights at Freddy’s VR: Help Wanted. He is a tall yellowish bunny with purple eyes (remind you of anyone), a bow tie and a creepy smile.
Freddy VR has a different playstyle than the previous games. In this game, Glitchtrap acts as a sort of virus (who is of course William Afton) that has taken over the Fazbear Virtual Experience.
I am sure by this point you are wondering how William keeps reappearing as a different antagonist. At the end of Freddy Fazebear’s Pizzeria Simulator (previous game) you see the animatronics burn in a fire, along with William Afton.
However after the fire, because everyone loves to upcycle, the circuit board of an animatronic suit was gathered (with Williams soul now inside it) to be used for the Fazbear Virtual Experience VR game. Don’t play VR too long though, Glitchtrap is trying to merge with you (the player in the game) to escape the digital world and come into the real one.
2. Vanny
Killer bunnies are next level creepy.
Following the bunny theme in Five Nights at Freddy’s VR, Vanny is a bunny with a creepy smile, bow, and glowing eyes. She however is not an animatronic, underneath the mask we see blonde hair (resembling Vannessa, an employee of Fazbear Funtime Service) showing us that she is a human in a bunny costume.
Vanessa started out as a security guard for the Funtime Service. Usually this would have been a great gig to have, unfortunately it did not end well. During one of her shifts Glitchtrap possesses Vannessa (trying to escape) by attempting to take control of her body.
This does not fully work, the merge was halfway completed when it failed causing Vannessa to develop a split personality named Vanny.
1. Purple Guy
Purple guy just taking a stroll....nothing suspicious…
I am sure you were expecting an animatronic to be at the top of this list, well that is half true. Fans across the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise know about purple guy. Who is the Purple guy?
Through different theories and gameplay, we find out Purple guy is William Afton. Purple guy is…purple, shown only ever in an 8-bit video game style and with two tiny white eyes (until he dies and gets reincarnated into springtrap).
Having a determined and solid villain can really make or break a franchise. William Afton was turned into a purple guy shortly after his encounter with Ennard. He specifically vomited Ennard up in the street after his body started decaying and turning purple.
Purple guy is responsible for the entire Freddy Fazbear Franchise (along with Henry but Henry didn't kidnap kids). His actions and evil soul are what lead to the first set of missing children and all of the incidents after.
