As you defeat enemies, you become immersed in Senua’s world, constantly hearing whispers around you and struggling to find out what is real and what isn’t.

Players control Raiden, a cyborg who confronts the private military company Desperado Enforcement, with gameplay focusing on fighting enemies using a sword.

The cool thing about this game is it’s in both medieval and modern worlds so you get to play in two very different but exciting worlds in the same game. The actual gameplay consists of you controlling Dracula and using multiple powers and weapons to achieve his goals while mixing in elements of an open world.

NIOH is an action role-playing video game set in Japan during the year 1600, with players controlling an Irish explorer-come-samurai named William. William faced the tragic deaths of his parents but also met Saoirse, his guardian spirit. The game follows William as he attempts to track down the alchemist who stole Saoirse while he was imprisoned in the Tower of London.
The game really flourishes in its gameplay. You guide William through enclosed environments fighting off difficult human enemies and terrifying supernatural beings called yokai. There are loads of weapons, powers and collectables to choose from so no two playthroughs will be the same.

Bayonetta is fun because of the variety of combat. Bayonetta can use both melee and long ranged attacks, combo strings and multiple weapons to defeat enemies. The game also encourages you to kill foes with as much flair as possible, weaving special actions into events, finishes or executions.

DmC: Devil May Cry is the fifth instalment of the Devil May Cry series, serving as an action-adventure style reboot. The game focuses on Dante, a young man and a Nephilim (an angel-demon hybrid). He partners with his twin brother, Vergil, to kill the demon Mundus, who murdered their mother and banished their father.
Like previous games in the series, Dante can perform combos by using his sword and shooting with his twin pistols, Ebony and Ivory. But new to the series are moveset modifiers – angel mode and devil mode. Using angel mode changes Dante’s sword attacks to a speedy scythe type weapon while devil mode uses a slower but powerful axe. When you’ve gathered enough power, Dante can activate devil trigger mode, slowing down time and allowing him to perform super strong attacks.

Ryse: Son of Rome is a third-person, hack-and-slash set in an alternate version of ancient Rome. The game follows the life of Marius Titus, a Roman centurion who seeks to avenge his murdered family, as he becomes a leader of the Roman Legion.
The gameplay focuses on Marius’ sword to strike down enemies and shield to defend from attack – what you really expect from a game set in ancient Rome. But players can also utilise quick-time events as an extension to the regular combat. You can also participate in the co-op or multiplayer modes, which allows you to fight waves of enemies in dynamic maps.

You control Talion, a ranger who bonds with an elf lord wraith, seeking to avenge the deaths of their loved ones.
This game really highlights melee combat, sneak attacks and using wraith abilities to fight and manipulate enemies. Shadow of Mordor also introduces a nemesis system, which allows the NPCs to join in fights, remember the deaths of your character and react accordingly.

In this game, players can utilize both melee and ranged attacks from a third-person point of view. The game also features a fury meter that, when filled up, allows the player to either slow time for aiming or perform super powered melee attacks.

The Surge is a sci-fi, action RPG considered to be a spiritual successor to Lords of the Fallen. The game is set in a dystopian future where humans have exhausted the world's resources – leading to strained social service and diseases.
Players use a customisable exoskeleton to battle enemies. Players can target different body parts of enemies and utilize finishing moves to defeat their foes. Supposedly, the developers were inspired by the Dark Souls games so expect a fair amount of difficulty.

NieR: Automata is a sequel to the game NieR, a spin-off of the Drakengard series. This game takes place in the middle of a war between machines created by otherworldly beings and the last remnants of humanity. The story follows the lives and battles of a combat android, her companion and a fugitive prototype.
NeiR: Automata’s gameplay combines role-playing elements with more action-based combat, similar to that of NieR. You can attack enemies with light attacks, which are fast but weak, or heavy attacks – slow but more powerful. Pods, flying robot assistants, can help with customizable ranged attacks or even shield you from harm in various ways.

Monster Hunter: World is an action RPG, set in the Monster Hunter series. Players control a hunter who is tasked to hunt down, kill or trap monsters that roam across the game’s open world. Players are then rewarded with loot consisting of parts from the monster and other elements – which can be used to craft weapons, armour and other equipment.
Similar to previous games in the series, you will need to travel around an uninhabited world filled with monsters, to join the research commission which studies the land from their central base. Your character gains attributes through the equipment you use, meaning that there are infinite ways to play the game. Also, my personal favourite part of the game is your cat companion, who accompanies you on quests and can have customisable equipment too.

Final Fantasy XV is an action RPG and continues the long-running Final Fantasy series. This latest instalment takes place on Eos. Aside from the kingdom of Lucis, Eos is dominated by the Niflheim empire, who want to control the magical crystal which is protected by Lucis' royal family. During the peace negotiations, Niflheim attacks Lucis and steals the crystal, and Noctis Lucis Caelum, the heir to the Lucian throne, goes on a quest to rescue the crystal as well as defeat Niflheim.
While accompanied by his three friends, Noctis is really the only playable character. Players select commands directly mapped to buttons on the controller, and battles take place within the current environment rather than separate battle arenas. What’s really useful is the threat meter than appears on the top of the screen, warning you as the party gets closer to enemies and preventing you from getting nasty surprises.
During the peace negotiations, Niflheim attacks Lucis and steals the crystal, and Noctis Lucis Caelum, the heir to the Lucian throne, goes on a quest to rescue the crystal as well as defeat Niflheim.

A man known as "V" comes to the Devil May Cry office as Dante’s newest client while Nero has set up his own demon hunting agency based out of a van with help by his engineer Nico.
It’s thought that players will be able to play as both Dane and Nero, along with the newest character “V”. Trailers suggest the actual gameplay will be similar to other Devil May Cry games, featuring fast-paced but stylish attacks. It’s also thought that the in-game music will change depending on the player’s performance in combat – a nifty detail.

The game is set in an alternate late 16th century Sengoku period Japan and follows Sekiro, a shinobi who was left for dead after his lord was kidnapped and his arm severed by a leading samurai of the Ashina clan. Sekiro sets out with a katana and a prosthetic arm to rescue his lord.
This game’s combat revolves around using a katana to attack an enemy’s poise and balance instead, which eventually leads to an opening that allows for a single killing blow. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice also features stealth element and tools creation to assist with combat as well as exploration. If you die, there’s the option to be revived on the spot instead of respawning at an earlier checkpoint.
