10 Great Video Games To Play This Halloween

Pumpkin Jack is the true king of Halloween

1. Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed

The Ghostbusters are back to cleanse the city of ghosts new and old.

This game takes place after the events of the film Ghostbusters Afterlife. Join Ray and Winston as they piece together a new crew to fight ghosts and ghouls. Players can choose to either play as a Ghostbuster or a ghost.

If a player chooses the Ghostbuster route they will trap ghosts and optionally close rifts to prevent the ghost from further haunting, but this must be done before the haunting is achieved. If you decide to play as a ghost you will haunt a location and avoid capture with an ultimate goal of a complete haunting.

This game is so bright and colorful and has many callbacks to the successful franchise. It is perfect for the Halloween season and is one of the films that is on every must watch list. You cannot make a Halloween list without this one.

Slimer is back and better than ever as arguably the best phantom of the films.

2. Goosebumps: Dead of Night

Slappy is back to wreak havoc and cause chaos and he must be stopped.

Goosebumps: Dead of Night is sure to bring players nostalgia, especially the 90’s kids. This game is based on the film which stars Jack Black as R.L. Stine. Players must gather objects and pages scattered throughout a haunted house to stop Slappy and seal him away from your reality. You will encounter monsters and ghouls from both the film and the famous book series.

Two of the best monsters from the Goosebumps universe make an appearance in this game. The cute but vicious gummy bears and the Werewolf of Fever Swamp. The bright colors and soundtrack mix with the unique art style we know and love to bring players an immersive experience.

If you are looking for a creepy and challenging game to indulge in this Halloween, this is the one for you. There are plenty of jumpscares and horrifyingly grotesque ghouls to give you a night of fright. Players be wary things might get scary.

The Werewolf of Fever Swamp emits a terrifying howl just as he is about to attack.

3. Death or Treat

HallowTown is a magical place that must be saved and preserved by Scary.

In this 2 dimensional hack and slash game players control Scary, a ghost from a place called HallowTown. There's a villain who is stirring up trouble and draining all of the Halloween spirit from the citizens and he must be stopped.

The entire experience is like stepping into a world made for Halloween. There are monsters, Jack-o’- lanterns, bright colors, bubbling cauldrons and candies shaped like a very famous pumpkin king. Scary is a well rounded character and the graphics in this game are nothing to scoff at. Anyone who loves the spooky season needs this game in their library. If we could only visit HallowTown life would be perfect.

HallowTown is the epitome of all things spooky and scary.

4. Killer Frequency

This radio station is spinning more than radical records.

Killer Frequency is a murder mystery and puzzle horror game set in 1987. Players control a radio host in a small town. The sheriff has been murdered by a serial killer and you are tasked with taking 911 dispatch phone calls. While listening to frantic callers you will make choices that not only impact you, but everyone else.

The soundtrack is moody and filled with that 80’s classic synthesizer and the puzzles are bone chilling but fun and challenging. Most of your time is spent inside the radio station with a progression of exploring the studio. You must survive the dangerous killer while entertaining folks over the radio waves.

Killer Frequency offers a lot if you love slasher films and serial killers. The atmosphere really sells the 80’s time period. This is a fun play and will definitely raise some hairs and potentially blood pressure.

The DJ table is where you spend most of your time while avoiding the dangerous and disturbing serial killer.

5. Luigi’s Mansion 3

Luigi is back for another spooky fun adventure and is on a mission to save his friends.

Luigi’s Mansion 3 is such a treat. One of the most popular Halloween games on the market is back for a new adventure. Luigi and friends are hoodwinked into a haunted holiday by King Boo. They arrive at a stunning hotel only to find out it is not what it seems. He must save his friends from the ghosts that inhabit this otherworldly hotel.

There are only a few ghost types but they adapt to gameplay which keeps players on their toes. The artwork is beautifully crafted along with the familiar and cozy soundtrack. This game is spooky but fun and is well worth purchasing. A list of Halloweeen games would be incomplete without mentioning this holiday staple.

King Boo is looking very regal as he chases Luigi through the haunted hallways of the hotel.

6. Bloodborne

The hunter roams the dirty and desolate streets looking for his next victim

Bloodborne is an RPG game that is exclusive to PS4. The player controls a hunter who combats the citizens of Yharnam after a bloodborne plague has transformed them into foul creatures. The blood and gore are prominent and the weapons in your arsenal are brutal. You must cleanse the city of the curse and restore order.

Bloodborne is one of the best games ever developed. It won Playstation’s game of the year in 2015 for good reason. The imagery is dark and frightening with horribly grotesque monsters and no shortage of bloodshed. The gameplay is a bit difficult to master at first but well worth the effort that you put in. If you are seeking nightmare fuel on Halloween then you must play Bloodborne.

The saw cleaver decimates an enemy with ease.

7. Don't Knock Twice

Beware the Baba Yaga for she is a force to be reckoned with.

This game is a first person walking simulation game. Players control a mother desperately searching for her daughter to protect her from the Slavic demon witch Baba Yaga. You will explore a haunted manor and try to avoid detection.

The scenery is creepy and unsettling with disturbing jumpscares. The light of a candle will help guide you through the hallowed halls. Pentagrams casually decorate open doorways while bathtubs filled with sludge are also found. This is a shorter play through of less than two hours but it is still a game worth checking out. It is a more mild horror game but it had to make the list because Baba Yaga is so terrifying.

Baba Yaga has discovered you as her gaunt figure looms overhead.

8. The Quarry

Your last night at camp may be your last night on earth.

The Quarry is a third person narrative horror game. Players control the fate of 9 camp counselors of Hackett’s Quarry summer camp that get stuck one extra day after camp ends . The goal is to survive the violent local residents and supernatural creatures that lie in wait in the dark landscape. To win you must kill the monster with silver bullets.

It has a full celebrity cast which makes it very fun to watch and play. If you are a fan of campy horror then this game is right up your alley. Players will be faced with many choices that will affect everything from character development, plot and a number of endings (there are 186 of them).

As a fan of Friday the 13th this game satisfies the slasher itch. I love a good adrenaline fueled chase through the woods. The graphics and storyline are brilliant and gorgeous and I recommend playing The Quarry this Halloween season.

Above pictured is the beautiful sight where gruesome things take place.

9. 7 Days to Die

Can you survive aggressive hordes of the undead while preserving everything you have built?

7 Days to Die is a survival crafting horror game. The world has been overrun by zombies created by a nuclear war and pandemic. Your job is to stay alive and survive. Every 7 days a horde will come and attack and if you don’t succeed in fighting them off you will start over with nothing. Those are pretty high stakes but definitely fun and worth playing.

The crafting style is similar to Minecraft. The weather will also play a role in your survival and adds an extra challenge. The undead in this game are gruesome and bloody. It is everything you could want and expect in a zombie game.

A small horde of zombies closes in on you as you fight them off.

10. Pumpkin Jack

Pumpkin Jack is the Devil's henchman in this action adventure game.

I have saved the best game for last. Pumpkin Jack embodies everything Halloween. Players control Pumpkin Jack as he runs an errand for the Devil himself. The goal is for you to find and eliminate an evil wizard. You will encounter everything from haunted houses, gargoyles, skeletons, and a dark steed.

The atmosphere is bright and colorful with a ghostly soundtrack and magical sound effects. Having an owl as your sidekick is a bonus. This game is fun, creepy and full of spooky fun surprises. Pumpkin Jack is the best Halloween game and I believe everyone should play this one.

Pumpkin Jack is seen slashing a specter with his otherworldly scythe.
