Intel Core i3-9350KF Processor Review - Is The Core i3-9350KF Worth It?

The i3-9350KF is Intel's latest entry-level gaming CPU

What Is Intel Core i3-9350KF?

The Intel Core i3-9350KF is Intel’s latest quad core entry-level CPU. It was announced on January 7 at CES 2019. The most recent 9th generation processors are the first mainstream Intel chips to not feature integrated graphics. Let’s take an inside look to see how this CPU performs.

Intel Core i3-9350KF Specs and Price

The Core i3-9350KF recommended retail price is around $175, although it’s currently selling for around $220 due to it still being rolled out to retailers. The “F” at the end of this CPUs name represents the lack of integrated graphics. While we’re unsure of exactly why Intel took this route, this processor still has some solid specifications.

  • Cores/Threads - 4/4
  • Base Clock - 4 GHz
  • Turbo Clock - 4.6 GHz
  • Architecture - Coffee Lake
  • TDP - 91W
  • Socket - LGA 1151

Intel Core i3-9350KF Performance

Due to the fact that this CPU just recently launched at the time of writing, there are not currently any accurate performance tests on this CPU. However, this CPUs performance is very similar to it’s predecessor, the Core i3-8350k. These CPUs are identical chips, the only difference being the newer model features turbo boost and no integrated graphics.

Intel Core i3-9350KF Overclocking Capability

Again, since these CPUs are still being rolled out at the time of writing, there isn’t much overclocking info on the 9350KF. However, this is a K-series chip meaning it can be overclocked. As stated earlier, the i3-8350k yields very similar performance to this chip and

Intel Core i3-9350KF Alternatives

Alternative 1: Intel Core i3-8350K

As the predecessor to the 9350KF, this CPU is a great alternative for those looking to save a few extra bucks.

  • Retails around $180.
  • Performs great at 1080p gaming.
  • Same Coffee Lake architecture.
  • Intel HD Graphics

Alternative 2: AMD Ryzen 3 2200G

This quad core CPU is a much cheaper alternative than the i3 series of processors. Launched at the beginning of 2018, the 2200G offers solid performance for a CPU less than $100.

  • Retail - $95
  • 65 watt TDP
  • Vega 8 integrated graphics
  • Slightly worseperformance than i3’s, but nearly half the price.

Alternative 3: AMD Ryzen 5 2600

This 6 core CPU may be the best in it’s price range. With a cheaper price tag than the i3-9350KF and generally better all around performance, the Ryzen 5 2600 is one of the best deals you can get today in budget CPUs.

  • Retail - $165
  • 6 Cores/12 Threads
  • Much better multimedia performance than i3 CPUs
  • Great gaming performance at any resolution.

Intel Core i3-9350KF Final Verdict

While the Intel Core i3-9350KF is by no means a bad CPU, there are definitely better alternatives for the price. It has some solid features and performs well in gaming, but the fact that you can get a better performing CPU for the same price bumps the score down a bit.

Pros

  • First i3 with turbo boost
  • Can be overclocked
  • Great single core performance

Cons

  • You can get a Ryzen 5 or older i3 CPU for lower price and similar/better performance
  • Recently launched, prices will be higher for first few months of release
  • No integrated graphics

Final Score: 7/10
