Dressed to kill in what you've killed.
In Monster Hunter there are two things that determine how you play the game; your weapon and your armor. I already wrote about what weapons are the best, now I'm telling you which armor sets are the best. With the large amount of armor in the game, it can be a daunting task to decide what sets have the balance of skills and defenses you need. Just keep in mind not all armors work well with all weapons.
10. Crimson Valstrax – Eclipse Set
MR Crimson Glow Valstrax Solo (GS) [MHR: Sunbreak PC]
When it comes to a good armor set you want to look at skills and slots. The Crimson Valstrax – Eclipse set has value in both of these. It sports three of the high-value level 4 decoration slots and still has wiggle room with more slots. Then the inbuilt skills synergize perfectly. Dragonheart will trigger Resuscitate to combine an attack and defense boost. The biggest problem with this set is that it doesn't work well with elemental builds due to the dragonblight that Dragonheart inflicts. This one comes from hunting an MR Crimson Glow Valstrax.
- Completely fills out all its skills.
- Has a powerful exclusive skill in Dragonheart.

9. Base Commander Set
How to Get Galleus’ Base Commander Armor & Royal Order Weapons in Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak
In addition to looking absolutely amazing, this set is perfectly stacked for a great sword player. It has good defense and slots that allow you to add anything this set is missing. The skills Charge Master, Punish Draw, Focus, and Quick Sheath lend themselves to the hit-and-run playstyle of the great sword. The Wide Range skill is just a bonus to keep those poor misguided randoms from carting on you. That being said it doesn't carry the same utility for any other weapon. Not that some can't get use out of it, it's just clear where the focus was for this one. Doing Admiral Galleus's follower quest unlock this armor towards the end.
- Comes with good skills for great sword.
- Looks awesome (the coat).
- No elemental weaknesses.

8. Heavy Knight Set
How to Get Arlow’s Heavy Knight Armor, Royal Gunlance, Royal Hammer in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak
Like the Base Commander set, the Heavy Knight was built with a weapon in mind. What makes it a bit better is that it works with more weapons. The slots are sadly unimpressive, but it comes with skills that are almost essential for the weapons it synergizes with. Things like Guard Up, Guard, and Artillery make it apparent that this is a gunlance-focused armor set. However, any weapon with a shield can benefit from the increased guard strength. Not to mention Quick Sheath and Razor Sharp are valuable to those same kinds of weapons. Unlocking this one involves doing Arlow's follower quest line.
- Skills are tailored for heavy defense weapons, namely gunlance.
- No elemental weaknesses.
- Best looking knight-themed set. (I will die on this hill)

7. Grand Mizuha Set
MH SUNBREAK (PC) | MR Chameleos HBG 2'23"
On the opposite end from Valstrax is this armor which functions best with a status weapon and arguably a ranged one. While lacking in high-quality slots, it makes up for it with the quantity of slots. The stars of this armor are Foray, Evade Window, and Ballistics/Mind's Eye. Combine this with the boost to poison damage the armor has and it can give a respectable damage increase along with safety. Evade Window practically gives you a souls game roll. This one just needs you to grind out an MR Chameleos, which is a little annoying.
- Boost poison damage.
- Has amazing slots spread across the equipment.

6. Malzeno Set
MR 5★ Malzeno 3'56 SnS | MH:Rise Sunbreak
Vampires are among the most popular creatures in fiction and this set lets you become one. The slot spread on the armor is great with two level 4 slots as the main course. Yet, like most sets on this list, it's the skills that make this set so great. The combination of Part Breaker, Weakness Exploit, and the exclusive Blood Rite work perfectly together. In addition to the extra drops and staggers that part-breaking rewards, you get extra damage and healing for attacking broken parts. This is a solid base to build off of. As the name suggests you hunt the elder dragon Malzeno to craft this armor.
- Blood Rite is a powerful exclusive skill.
- Skills synergize well enhancing each other.
- Great slots.

5. Kaiser X Set
MHRise: Sunbreak | Teostra Greatsword Solo 4'28"47
It's never really a surprise when critical chance and damage become meta in a game. The Kaiser X set boasts incredible crit chance, boosting it by 30% with the Critical Eye skill. Along with that its Critical Boost skill adds 40% more damage. Topping off this offense armor is Master's Touch which helps preserve sharpness while you land those critical hits. This armor comes from MR Teostra. A tough fight but not one you can't handle.
- Amazing critical skills.
- High amount of slots.
- Strong skill synergy.

4. Arc Set
MHR Sunbreak: Shagaru Magala Switch Axe solo 3'51"56
Another powerful elemental set that can handle a variety of situations. Looking at the slots you can see there are a lot of high-level ones. In fact, all six of its slots are level 2 or higher. The skill that gives this set its strength is Bloodlust, which inflicts frenzy and adds buffs to both states of it. Infected gives attack, evasion, and reduced stamina use; recovering gives extra affinity. This all works with Coalescence and Resuscitate to guarantee that you are always buffed in some way. Critical Element being included just cements this armor's role as an elemental damage set. The tradeoff for all this power is that Bloodlust causes frenzy to drain health. You'll have to be up to hunting a Shagaru Magala in order to craft this armor.
- Skills synergize well.
- Exclusive access to Bloodlust skill for a powerful buff.
- Several high level slots.

3. Grand Divine Ire Set
MHR Sunbreak: Furious Rajang Switch Axe solo 2'43"32
This set has use across a few possible weapons but is practically screaming about the bow and dual blades. Its slots are good, nothing remarkable. However, Furious is a crazy skill. As you battle you build fury on your red swap scroll and gain more defenses, but when the fury is full it gets busted. You can switch to your blue scroll and have infinite stamina for a limited time. This gives you an unrelenting offense aided by critical chance building skills, ammo/sharpness saving skills, and extra evade distance. Scarier than the strength of this set is the Furious Rajang you have to hunt to craft it.
- Exclusive Furious skill opens up infinite stamina builds.
- One of the few armors with Chain Crit.
- Synergy between both rare skills leads to high damage.

2. Sinister Grudge Set
MH RISE Sunbreak FINAL SECRET MONSTER! Everything you NEED TO KNOW! How to get NEW Best ARMOR SET?
High risk, high reward is the name of the game with this armor set. That risk can be mitigated with mastery of the swap skill system but it's never gone. The slots being fantastic shouldn't be a surprise at this point. You should have no problem fitting another high-value skill on here. The skill that this armor builds around is Mail of Hellfire. Depending on your swap scroll it either raises attack and lowers defense, or lowers resistance and raises elemental damage. You can lower this risk through Redirection reducing damage taken mid-swap. Just remember which scroll you’re on and its trade-offs. This one has you in for the long haul as you have to hunt Scorned Magnamalo at MR100 for this armor to be available.
- Exclusive use of Mail of Hellfire.
- Strong skill synergy for mitigating risk of Mail of Hellfire.
- Great slots for customization.

1. Archfiend Set
How to beat Final Story Boss; Gaismagorm in Sunbreak ► Monster Hunter Rise
A lot of these sets had one skill that gave them their place on this list. The Archfiend armor has skill so powerful that it practically carried it to number one. That's not to say it doesn't follow the pattern of great slots that most of these armors have fallen into. No, I just want to stress the sheer ridiculousness of Dereliction. It drains your health in exchange for a stat boost based on your swap scroll. Red boost elements and status while blue does attack and stun. On top of that swapping restores some health. The boost can go as high as 35 for attack and 20 for elements. The set also gives you Resentment which boosts attack if you have red recoverable health, which is always with this armor. Appropriately for something this strong it is unlocked by beating the Gaismagormof the story.
- The strongest exclusive skill, Dereliction.
- Good slots.
- Access to Chain Crit for further attack buffs.

Conclusion
Choosing the best armor sets was a difficult task. While I do believe these are the best full sets, it's guaranteed that you can make something better if you learn how to combine pieces from different sets. Of course, there is no shame in sticking with the effective sets I have laid out for you here. Just play the way you like.
