Game of Thrones has been an amazing series on HBO for seven years. Unfortunately, it is coming to an end, and some of us are wondering what comes after such a superb series. Well this list might have that answer for you. These movies/TV shows will definitely give you something to watch either to hold off the wait for the final season, or something else to binge over that brings that enjoyment back once GoT is over.

20. The Last Kingdom (TV Series)

The Last Kingdom is about a Saxon boy who is raised by Danes after they kill his father. As an adult his Dane family is murdered, and he sets out to avenge them.

The Last Kingdom may not have as big of a cult following as Game of Thrones, but it still has an audience; it is very similar to Vikings.

The story may be similar to Vikings, but it still separates it self to be its own unique series. It lacks the fantasy element Game of Thrones has, but makes it up with interesting characters and gritty action.

You don’t have to fight.

Bring it on!

19. Spartacus (TV Series)

Spartacus is about a Roman soldier who is betrayed and sold into slavery. There he becomes a gladiator and a resistance fighter.

Spartacus probably had just as big of a fan base as Game of Thrones, and I’m one of them. The series grabs you instantly and doesn’t let go.

It might have lasted only four seasons, but with bloody action, great characters, and interesting story lines you don’t mind one bit.

A cocky gladiator.

Gladiators unite.

18. Black Sails (TV Series)

Black Sails is about Captain Flint, and how Long John Silver becomes the infamous pirate from Treasure Island.

Black Sails definitely had a following after the very first episode. The origins of Long John Silver is too interesting to pass up for most people.

Just like Spartacus, Black Sails may have only lasted four seasons, but with characters that kept you drawn in, and action that blew you away it doesn’t matter one bit.

Pirates mean business.

Flint and Silver kill for what’s theirs.

17. Rome (TV Series)

Rome is the journey of two soldiers, and how each of their actions affected the fall of the Roman Empire.

Rome tried to be one of HBO’s biggest epics, but it was way too expensive to produce and it never got a chance to build its audience. That came later after the series was canceled.

You can watch the 22 episode epic with unique characters and stylish battles. Even though Rome was canceled they were able to finish the story which won’t leave you disappointed you invested your time.

Brothers in arms.

You don’t mess with a Roman.

16. Vikings (TV Series)

Vikings is about the real life viking Ragnar Lothbrok, his family, and all the land they captured during their extraordinary lives.

Vikings is definitely History’s Game of Thrones. They have the strong characters, great writing, and amazing battle scenes. They are also still going very strong just like GoT, and with GoT ending this would be a perfect series to watch.

Every season becomes more intense than the previous season, and it keeps you wanting more.

Brothers always.

Prepare for war.

15. Clash of the Titans

Clash of the Titans is about Perseus, Son of Zeus, and his attempt to save the human race from the gods.

Clash might not be a TV series, but if you’re looking for a one time movie to watch that has great fantasy elements and cool action this is for you.

Not everyone loved this movie because the 3D was horrible. But if you just watch the film it is a fun ride from start to finish about gods and half humans.

You don’t scare me.

Bye Bye Medusa.

14. Conan the Barbarian (2011)

Conan is about a Barbarian who seeks vengeance against the men who killed his father when he was just a kid.

Conan was hated by a lot of people when it first came out. I thought it was a fun movie that you could turn your brain off for, and enjoy the action. The action is intense and bloody, which is sometimes what you are looking for.

It may not have been as good as the original, but this version still gives you cool action and fun fantasy.

I’m ready for you.

You can’t run from me.

13. Solomon Kane

Solomon Kane is about a cursed knight who can’t kill anymore. If he does his soul is sent to hell. He finds a reason to kill.

Solomon Kane is the essence of fantasy because it contains hell, demons, and monsters. It wasn’t popular when it was released, but it gained momentum later because of the story and character.

It isn’t closely related to GoT, but it has plenty of medieval fantasy to peak interest and invest time in.

I will not give up.

Hell is calling.

12. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2010)

Prince of Persia is about an orphan turned Prince who gets his hands on a dagger that controls time. He then has to protect that dagger.

Prince of Persia wasn’t praised when it came out, but it wasn’t hated either. It isn’t the worst video game movie out there, and people saw that. A time travel movie based in early Egypt is just a fun concept.

You can’t stop yourself can you?

I love this thing.

11. Beowulf

Beowulf is about a warrior who fights and kills monsters. He concentrates on Grendel and Grendel’s Mother.

Beowulf is a movie that took leaps in animation when it came out. This made it more enjoyable because even though it was animated it looked so realistic.

It was a fantasy movie that took an epic book, and transformed it into something cool.

This will be easy.

Beauty and the Warrior.

10. King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

King Arthur is about how Arthur gained Excalibur, and how he became king.

This iteration of King Arthur focused more on the fantasy portion of the story that it gave the audience a version of the tale they never thought of.

It’s the character you know but the story you don’t.

I feel the power.

Whatever guys.

9. Season of the Witch

Season of the Witch is about a Knight Templar asked to bring a witch to a certain location. This location should strip her of her powers.

Season of the Witch wasn’t popular when it first came out, but it gained fans later when they saw how much fun it is. Witches, demons, and creatures all right after the Crusades.

It is a movie about witches, and who doesn’t enjoy a good witch flick.

Are you afraid now?

We can’t lose the witch.

8. The 13th Warrior

The 13th Warrior is about an ambassador sent on a diplomatic mission. During that mission he helps protect a village from creatures that eat “everything” in their midst.

The 13th Warrior wasn’t loved by all, but those who see it for what it is have a great time with this fantasy movie. It is warriors fighting against cannibals.

It is a pretty old film but the action and characters still keep you hooked from start to finish.

I will never give up.

We fight together.

7. Troy (2004)

Troy is about how the love of one woman started a war that destroyed an entire Greek City.

Troy had a fan base from the very beginning, and it still has fans who can’t get enough of the interesting characters and the intense action.

You should see for yourself how one woman started a war that destroyed an entire city in Ancient Greece.

Welcome to my home.

Let the war begin.

6. 300

300 is about 300 Spartans against 3,000 Persians, and the massive carnage that took place.

This is Sparta! The one line that everyone remembers from this spectacular insane of a movie. 300 Spartans fight one long extremely bloody war that has you hooked from beginning to end.

You should definitely see this tale for yourself, and you can do just that on Amazon Video. It is Gerard Butler in one of his best roles and some of the bloodiest action you will ever see in a movie.

This is Sparta!

Look at those abs.

5. Your Highness

Your Highness is about two brothers, a Knight and a fool. They embark on a mission to free a Princess from an evil wizard.

Your Highness didn’t have a huge fan base in the beginning, but they still had fans after they took it for what it was. A spoof on all medieval fantasy movies, and how ridiculous they truly are.

It is a spoof on fantasy movies, and how funny these situations truly are.

What did you do?

That's right I'm awesome.

4. Hercules (2014)

Hercules is about the demigod Hercules, Son of Zeus, and how he is now a sword for hire.

Hercules has a fan base, but not too big because of the way they wrote the character. I won’t spoil anything, and it is still a lot of fun. As long as you can get past the one writing decision made it is a fun fantasy movie about a character we all know.

I had fun with this version, and it is so much better than the other version that came out the same year, The Legend of Hercules.

I’m so ready.

You can’t hold me back.

3. King Arthur (2004)

King Arthur is about King Arthur and his knights, and how they protect a group of people from Merlin with no magic.

This is the second King Arthur on this list, and that is because this version gets rid of the magic and adds reality to the legend. The story on a character we think we know, but with a hint of it actually being true.

The writing is well done, the acting keeps you interested in all the characters, and the battle sequences are well done that you feel the pain.

Was it worth it?

I ain’t your friendly old Merlin.

2. The Hobbit Trilogy

The Hobbit Trilogy is about Bilbo Baggins, and the adventures he goes on with dwarves to reclaim their home.

Now out of everything on this list these last two are combined because they are one big story, and they are also the closest to Game of Thrones you are going to come across. The Hobbit Trilogy starts this epic franchise, and you are hooked from the very start.

It is the truest definition of medieval fantasy with magic, dwarves, elves, hobbits, and dragons. It has great characters and amazing battles.

What have I gotten myself into?

This is my home. Get Out!

1. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy is about Frodo Baggins, and his quest to destroy the One Ring once and for all.

The epic franchise ends with this trilogy, and it is even better than the last trilogy. It is darker, more characters you love, and the battles are even bigger than the last. This franchise had a huge fan base from the beginning and it is growing everyday.

This franchise is the best worth of your time, and if you really want a Game of Thrones void filler this franchise does it perfectly. It has everything you need, and some things you didn’t know you needed.

The ring is calling you.

Two Hobbits and a Gollum.

Well that is my list, and I think you guys will really like these movies and TV shows. Now do you agree with my list? What movies or TV series do you think are similar to Game of Thrones? Create your own list, and see what you put on it.
