You know, when it comes time to a show like Game of Thrones, it’s really quite difficult to think of it as being funny. On account of all the blood, betrayal and cruelty in this world, laughter might be the last expression of emotion that you would think of finding here, but alas, Game of Thrones often surprises us in many ways that make both us, and the characters, laugh.

In this list, we take a look at all the funniest moments throughout the entire run of the Game of Thrones TV show!

15. Davos the grammar police (Season 7, Episode 3)

One of the most lovable characters in the entire show is Ser Davos Seaworth. After being Stannis’s most staunch and loyal supporter, he eventually decides to side with Jon after Stannis dies. Because of his service with the stern commander, Davos picks up a few of his habits and even learns a thing or two from him, one of which is proper grammar. So, when he corrects Jon’s English the same way Stannis corrected his, it’s both funny and heartwarming.

14. Dany’s intro vs. Jon’s intro (Season 7, Episode 3)

The first time Jon and Dany ever meet unexpectedly has a funny moment, one that is caused by Ser Davos yet again. Upon entering the throne room, Jon and Davos are greeted with Dany and her council, with Missandei explaining who Dany is by giving her complete and full title. Storm born, breaker of chains, mother of dragons etc. And how do the visitors respond to this paragraph long introduction? With Davos simply stating ‘this is Jon Snow’.

13. Edmure the Incapable (Season 3, Episode 3)

Edmure is one of the most disrespected characters in the entire show, especially in the last season.However, it’s pretty funny in season 3. After the death of his and Cat’s father, Hoster Tully, he is the one chosen to set the funeral boat alight with his flaming arrows. But, he just keeps missing the boat! This turns a somber and sad funeral scene into a funny one due to one character's incompetence.

12. Olenna roasting Cersei (Season 6, Episode 7)

Olenna Tyrell is quite possibly the sassiest character ever written. She always knows what to say and regardless of who you are, she can always roast you and put you down savagely. After Cersei allowed the High Sparrow to run amok in the Capital and become so powerful, she realized that she needed Olenna’s help to come out on top. To this, Olenna replied ‘I wonder if you are the worst person I’ve ever met’ before harshly rejecting Cersei’s plea for help and leaving the city.

11. What the ____ is a Lommy (Season 4, Episode 1)

This is a hilarious scene that takes place at the beginning of the first episode of season 4. On their adventures, the Hound and Arya come across a tavern to get food where they see a bunch of Lannister soldiers, one of which is Polliver, the man who stole Arya’s sword and killed her friend Lommy. Scouting from a distance, Arya is able to identify him and tell Sandor that he killed Lommy, to which Sandor has one of the funniest reactions to.

10. The Hound roasting Thoros (Season 7, Episode 1)

Honestly, an entire list could be made of scenes where the Hound just continues to keep making us laugh and insults others. Almost all of his scenes have him complaining or making fun of people and they’re always hilarious. This scene is no exception as in it, we see Sandor mocking Thoros’s hair which is tied up in a top knot, saying that he isn’t fooling anyone with how bald he is.

9. Hound and Tormund (Season 7, Episode 6)

Much like the Hound, Tormund is yet another character of whom we could make an entire list of moments where he made us all laugh like crazy. So, this moment when the 2 of them finally meet, it is absolutely hilarious. Tormund confronts the Hound and through conversing about their experiences, he comes to find out that Sandor has also met the love of Tormund’s life, Brienne, before. This is an absolutely hysterical conversation as the disgust of Sandor’s face is beautifully juxtaposed by the face of love that Tormund is making.

8. Tormund judging Jon (Season 6, Episode 3)

There are few friendships in Game of Thrones that are as great as the friendship between Jon and Tormund. These 2 are the leaders of their respective factions which have been mortal enemies for thousands of years, yet are brought together by the foresight of these 2 leaders. However, Jon gets betrayed and killed by members of the Watch and upon his resurrection, most would have been very shocked to see him again.

Tormund, however, does not share this shock. Upon meeting Jon, he wastes no time and says that Jon can’t be some kind of god because of the size of his… you know.

7. Tormund teaches Jon the way (Season 3, Episode 7)

This is a scene I can’t really talk much about because talking won’t do it justice. To truly know how hilarious this scene truly is, please check it out for yourself. The backstory is Tormund teaching Jon about some ‘intimate’ things.

6. Tyrion tells the Vale of his vices (Season 1, Episode 6)

This is an amazing scene. After being unjustly imprisoned at the Vale by Catelyn and Lysa, Tyrion is brought in front of everyone as a trial to answer for his supposed crimes. Even in such a tense situation, however, Tyrion never loses his composure or wit, taking the entire trial scene to openly mock his captors and brag about his life and accomplishments. This is a hilarious scene but also one that really shows Tyrion to be the genius he truly is.

5. Bobby B dismantling Lancel (Season 1, Episode 3)

Ok, so much like the Hound and Tormund, Robert Baratheon could ALSO have an entire list of moments that made us laugh. He was one of the most enigmatic and charming characters on the show that almost everyone loved, so much so that the community collectively took to calling him Bobby B. Bobby B hated the Lannisters, none more than his wife’s cousin, Lancel. He made fun of Lancel for everything, for looking like a girl, having a stupid name etc. It was glorious!

4. Jon and Sam (Season 1, Episode 7)

There are actually a few moments of these 2 together just bantering around and having fun, namely the scene in the tavern in season 1 where Sam makes fun of Jon for his experience with girls However, the scene I chose here is when Sam tells Jon that he always wished to be a wizard, to which Jon blurts out laughing. While the latter scene may be funnier to some, this scene is much more heartwarming and important to their relationship.

3. Tormund’s secret for getting strong (Season 8, Episode 2)

One of the funniest character dynamics in the whole show is Tormund’s love for Brienne and Brienne’s confusion towards him. This scene in season 8 has a bunch of characters sitting together and Tormund trying to seduce Brienne. Only, he doesn’t have the flirting skills of a normal person, instead seductively drinking milk in front of her and telling her of how he got so strong in the first place. Genius. 

2. Bobby B strikes again (Season 1, Episode 2)

This scene is yet another one in which Bobby B is absolutely destroying poor defenseless Lancel Lannister. While getting his armor fit on him, he realizes that he is far too fat for this to happen, so he copes with this by insulting Lancel and his mother in the funniest way possible. Ned is here as well and it’s just the funniest and wholesome thing ever how two best friends laugh at the brutal mockery of Lancel, even with Ned trying to stop this from happening.

1. Arya and the Hound at the Vale (Season 4, Episode 5)

My pick for the funniest scene in the whole run of the show is when the Hound and Arya finally reach the Bloody Gate of the Vale after seemingly weeks of traveling (at least) to drop Arya off with her aunt, Lysa. Only, when they reach, they find out that Lysa is dead and Arya now has nowhere to go, much like before. Everyone, at this point, was expecting a somber and sad scene but what we got instead was Arya starting to absolutely laugh her head off with the Hound looking ever more frustrated. It was totally unexpected and just plain hilarious to watch.
