When you picture a cowboy/girl one item is consistently part of the picture; a revolver hanging from their hip. Just like in the actual Wild West, having a trusty sidearm with you in Red Dead Online can be the difference between life and death.
Choosing which of the game’s five historically accurate revolvers to carry with you can be a daunting task, so we’re here to help. Below you’ll find our ranking of the revolvers in RDO and how to get them.
5. Cattleman Revolver
Recommended for use by man, not cattle.
This classic sidearm, modeled after the Colt Model 1873 Single Action Army Revolver, is available from the beginning of the game. It’s a decent all-around weapon but when you can you’ll want to upgrade to something that packs more punch. It has an ammo capacity of 6 rounds but it can take 3-4 shots to kill an NPC if you aren’t aiming for the head.
That lower damage output means it becomes obsolete fairly quickly, especially in PvP. You start the game with one but you can buy a second for $50 from any gunsmith or the catalogue. It can be upgraded at a gunsmith and can fire Regular, High Velocity, Split Point, Express and Explosive ammo.

4. Double-action Revolver
Double the action, double the fun.
This weapon, based on the Colt Model 1892 Army & Navy revolver, trades damage for fire rate, with its namesake double-action mechanism saving you the time of having to pull back the hammer after each shot. This makes it a decent option for horseback combat. This revolver can be purchased from the catalogue or any gunsmith for $127.00 when you reach rank 17. It has a capacity of 6 rounds and can use Regular, High Velocity, Split Point, Express and Explosive ammo.

3. Navy Revolver
This revolver will keep you afloat, on the scoreboard anyway.
Directly modeled after the Colt 1851 Navy Revolver, this sidearm packs more punch than the Cattleman Revolver and has great accuracy. It reloads slowly, but if you make your shots count that should be only a minor inconvenience. It’s available from rank 1 at any gunsmith or the catalogue for $275.00. It has a 6 shot ammo capacity and can fire Regular, High Velocity, Split Point, Express and Explosive rounds.

2. LeMat Revolver
For when you want your enemies to go "LeSplat".
The LeMat Revolver was a cap and ball black powder firearm invented by Alexandre LeMat in 1855. What makes this revolver unique both in the game and real life is the secondary smooth-bore barrel capable of firing shotgun rounds. It’s a force to be reckoned with at close range, with an ammo capacity of 9 rounds and the aforementioned secondary shotgun fire mode. It is also unlocked at rank 1 and can be purchased from the catalogue or any gunsmith for $317.00.

1. Schofield Revolver
Turns any pasture into a killing field.
This 6 shot revolver, based on the Smith & Wesson Model 3, is arguably the most well-balanced and effective revolver in RDO. It’s unlocked at rank 9 and relatively inexpensive, costing $192.00. It can be dual-wielded to devastating effect and is an excellent choice that’ll carry you into the higher ranks with ease and precision. Find it available for purchase in the hand-held catalogue or any gunsmith. It can be used with Regular, High Velocity, Split Point, Express and Explosive rounds.
