Players of the first Subnautica game will remember how gold once filled up multiple lockers when all you really wanted was copper. In Subnautica: Below Zero, it becomes a lot less common, yet still remains vital for electronic and computer recipes. This article will help you out in your search for this shiny material. Try to have a Mineral Detector on hand to aid your search, as well as a vehicle with a depth module.
5. Crystal Caves Fissures
It's a chore to get there, but something shiny awaits.
This location is definitely one you’ll want to save for later on in the game. With the depth range sitting at an uncomfortable 480 - 840 meters, it goes without saying that you’ll need a vehicle with a good depth upgrade.
How to farm the material here: You can either mine the Large Gold Deposits using the Prawn Suit Drill Arm, or break the Calaverite Outcrops.
What makes Crystal Caves Fissures Great for Gold:
- Good amount of resources: A wide variety of materials are present in the Crystal Caves, not just gold. You may very well find the other materials for your target recipe as well.

Once you find the Crystal Caves, look for large crevices at the bottom. These will serve as your entrances to the Fissures.
4. Deep Lilypads Cave
The warm glow of the flora will guide you.
It’s hard to take your eyes off the vast, green-tinted waters of the Lilypad Islands, but there is much more to see if you go deeper. 320 to 630 meters deeper, to be exact. The Deep Lilypads Cave is rich in resources, and pretty well lit by the bioluminescent flora growing there.
How to farm the material here: You can either mine the Large Gold Deposits using the Prawn Suit Drill Arm, or break the Calaverite Outcrops.
What makes the Deep Lilypads Cave great for Gold:
- Good amount of resources: Like the Crystal Caves, the amount of resources present in the Deep Lilypad Cave makes it somehow worth hiding from the Squidsharks.

3. Koppa Mining Site
An important location for resources and the plot.
At some point, you’ll find yourself having to venture into the Koppa Mines, an abandoned mining site full of old Alterra tech. Not only that- it’s also a place where you’ll find tons of Raw Materials, including gold.
How to farm the material here: You can either mine the Large Gold Deposits using the Prawn Suit Drill Arm, or break the Calaverite Outcrops.
What makes Koppa Mining Site Great for Gold:
- Relatively safe: You won’t be attacked by Shadow Leviathans or Squidsharks here. The route to the site and the site itself are both fairly clear of threats.
- Rock Punchers: If you keep enough of a distance that they don’t punch you, the Rock Punchers roaming around the site will toss around rocks that you can break. There’s a chance that the rock willof drop gold.

2. Twisty Bridges Caves and Deep Twisty Bridges
Don't have to stray too far when resources are right next door.
Players scared of venturing too far or too deep can breathe a sigh of relief at this one. The Twisty Bridges biomes are not just close to home, but also one of the most reliable places to look for gold.
How to farm the material here: Look for Calaverite outcrops, mostly along the sides of cliffs or slopes. There are also Ore Veins (In the Deep Twisty Bridges), where you just have to grab the embedded gold deposits.
What makes Twisty Bridges Caves and Deep Twisty Bridges Great for Gold:
- Safe: This point is meant mostly for the Twisty Bridges Caves, where Crashfish are more of an annoyance than anything. In the Deep Twisty Bridges, though, there are Squidsharks lurking around.
- Near spawn: These biomes neighbor the Shallow Twisty Bridges, so you don’t have to worry about being too far from your base (if you’ve made it near spawn, that is).
How to get there: The Twisty Bridges Caves are very easy to find as they are visibly located in the Twisty Bridges Biome near to spawn. Getting to the Deep Twisty Bridges might be a little trickier though.

1. Arctic Kelp Caves
A great spot for gold, if you can navigate through the kelp.
Not too far from where players first start the game are the Arctic Kelp Forests, home to various fauna, flora, and oh-so-many resources. Underneath the Forests are the Arctic Kelp Caves, relied on by players for resource-gathering.
How to farm the material here: Get gold by breaking open the numerous Calaverite Outcrops found here.
What makes Arctic Kelp Caves Great for Gold:
- Good amount of resources: Going a little deeper has proven to be rewarding for many players, as they’ve reported finding decent amounts of gold in the Kelp Caves.
- Very safe: Here, your biggest concerns will be either Crashfish exploding in your face or Sea Monkeys snatching your MIneral Detector.
- Close to spawn: The Kelp Forest shares a border with the Twisty Bridges. It won’t take long to get there, and the route is easy too.
How to get there: Head north-west from spawn and you’ll eventually run into the kelp masses that make up the forest. The deepest parts of the Caves are around 100-120 meters under the surface.
