Whether you're just starting out or you're already a pro, these tips will level up your gameplay. From building killer Teams to managing your coins like a pro, we've got all the insider info to make you a Super Auto Pets champ!
Before you begin:
1. Understand different Team Types
Before you even begin playing Super Auto Pets, you will need to understand the different Team types that players usually go for in their builds. This will influence what kinds of Pets you put in your party.
The most common Team types are:
- Summoner Build: This Team will continue to summon Pets, attempting to knock out the opposing Team by summoning so many Pets the other player can’t keep up.
- Sniper Build: The Pets in this Team will have “snipes” that are launched at specific or random Pets, bringing the average health down of the other Team so much that they are easy to take down.
- Scaling Build: This involves placing a Pet or two in your party that focus on beefing other Pets in your party, making it easy for the strong Pets to take down the opposing Team
- Food Build: The Pets in this Team will focus on feeding your Team as much as possible to make them stronger.
2. Be mindful of placement
A common mistake beginners to Super Auto Pets make is not realizing that it matters where Pets are in a Team’s lineup. The placement of Pets affects your Team’s synergy, and is very important.
This advice varies depending on what play style you are going for, but when placing Pets in spots on your Team, you should generally place:
- Scaling Pets in the back of your Team, since these Pets tend to be weaker than others
- Pets that add temporary buffs to your Team to Pets behind them should go at the front of your Team
- The most powerful Pet in your party at the front of your Team
Early Game Tips:
3. Early ant
Ant is one of the best Pets that you are able to get early game, since it has pretty good stats and the ability to buff other Pets. If you can get multiple ants in your party before turn 3, do it! It will make your Team powerful early-game, and possibly get you early wins.
4. If you get a level 3 Pet early, keep it
As the game progresses, it gets increasingly challenging to level up Pets, since more Pets are unlocked as you go. Therefore, if you get a Pet early game that is Level 3, you will want to keep it in your party.
Here are some of the reasons why this is:
- If you get Bison, you will easily be able to power it up by the time you get to mid game.
- If your RNG is unlucky and you don’t get a Bison, you can sell your Level 3 Pet for 3 coins.
- If possible, try and get a level 3 Duck, since when you sell Duck, its special ability is unlocked.
5. Horse + Cricket + Honey
Here is why this combo works:
- Horse should be placed at the back of the build, and will give +1 attack to any Pet that is summoned
- Cricket summons a 1/1 cricket upon death, and Horse will be powered up.
- You will want to put as many Horses/Crickets in your build as possible. Make sure NOT to level up these Pets at Turn 1 or 2, and instead space out these Pets, stacking their abilities
- If you have a full Horse/Cricket build, put a Honey Pot on a Cricket!
6. Odd-number level ups
If you are about to level up a Pet, you will want to wait to do this on an odd-numbered Turn instead of an even-numbered turn.
This is for a few reasons:
- When you level up a Pet, two Pets from the Tier above the one you are currently at are summoned in the shop, and available for purchase
- Therefore, you will unlock higher-tiered Pets at odd-leveled turns.
- If you wait to level-up Pets at odd-turns, you extend your time for getting a higher-tiered Pet by 1 turn!
7. It’s okay to lose a heart before Turn 3
Early game, it is sometimes a matter of RNG and not skill on whether you win or don’t win. Because of this, it can be nearly impossible to win a trophy on Turn 1 or 2.
This is okay! The developers have balanced this out by making it so that if you lose a heart before reaching Turn 3, you will get that heart back. However, keep in mind you will only gain one heart back, even if you lose two.
Mid game:
8. Garlic Armor
Garlic Armor is one of the most powerful Food perks you can put on a Pet. This is because it negates 3 damage every time you are hit. At first, this doesn’t sound like a lot, but it is surprisingly powerful at keeping your Pets alive for long periods of time, even in late-game.
For Pets that have their special ability activated during a round, such as Camel, Blowfish, or Hippo, you won’t want to miss putting Garlic Armor on these Pets.
9. Scaling mid-game
Even if you have a lot of strong Pets on your Team, you won’t want to miss out on scaling the stats on your Pets. Scaling makes your Team more powerful consistently, so if you skip this step, your Team may suffer late game.
Here are some scalers you should consider adding to your Team:
- Penguin: this Pet will give an attack and health buff for 2 Pets on your Team that are Level 2 or above.
- Giraffe: this Pet will buff the Pet in front of them at the end of each Turn
10. Use Snail if you’re losing
Sometimes, RNG can bite you in the butt, and your Team isn’t looking too good mid game with a nasty losing streak. When this happens, you may be looking for ways to salvage your Team, and a snail is one of the best ways to do that.
Snail will give a heart buff to every Pet on your Team at the end of a turn if you lost the last round. Don’t be afraid to add this Pet to your Team to quickly give your Team a boost, then quickly remove the Snail for a better Pet once your Team has recovered.
11. Synergy between at least 2-3 Pets
While a lot of Pets work well on their own, the only way you will win a game of Super Auto Pets is if you aim for synergy between at least 2 or 3 Pets. This means that one Pets special ability compliments another’s, making your Pets more powerful together than on their own.
Here are some combos that work really well:
- Camel + Elephant: Elephant’s ability will activate Camel
- Black Cat + Seal: These two Pets together will make your Food incredibly more powerful than it would be on its own
- Hippo + Snake – These two Pets make a devastating combo, raining down loads of damage on your opponent
12. Hippos counter Summoners Builds
Whether you are building a Summoners Build or you’re looking to counter one, a Hippo will demolish a Summoners Build because of its special ability to gain both health and attack anytime it takes down an enemy. Summoner’s Builds tend to have a lot of weaker Pets, which are the types that Hippo will do very well against.
Here are some tips for Hippo and summoners Builds:
- If you are building a Summoners build, you won’t know for 100% where your opponent's Hippo will be. However, it might be worth putting Scorpion in your party to counter this.
- If you have Hippo in your party, make sure to make it really beefy so it will easily take down a Summoners!
13. Invest Food in Pets you’ll keep
Investing coins into Pets that won’t stick around may help you in the short term, but is a bad investment in the long-term for your economy.
14. Freeze, then roll
I don’t know about EVERY snail…
Don’t forget about the freeze function! If you are considering buying a Pet, but want to see if you can get something else, freeze that Pet then roll. That way, you can utilize your economy to the best of your ability.
This is especially helpful if you have 4 gold remaining, and are unsure on what to do with the Pets/Food you rolled. Instead of buying something you are unsure of, freeze Pets/Food you potentially want to keep so you can try for something new.
15. Get a sniper or two in your build
While this tip isn’t applicable for all builds, it is generally helpful to have at least one sniper in your build. Snipers help your Pets compete against Teams that have really high health.
Here are some of the best snipers in the game:
- (early) Dolphin – Deals random damage to an opponent, but is better than the other early-game sniper alternative, Mosquito
- (mid) Skunk – Takes out 33% of the health of the Pet with the highest health on the opponent Team. When Skunk is leveled up, this special ability is extremely powerful.
- (late) Snake – Deals random damage whenever the Pet in front of it attacks. This works especially well with Pets that stay out front for long periods of time, such as Rhino.
16. Don’t change strategies mid-run
It may be tempting to entirely switch-up your strategy mid-run when things are not going your way. However, if you do this, you may be shooting yourself in the foot.
Super Auto Pets relies on maintaining a good economy between Turns. By switching strategies mid-run, it would require too many coins to maintain a strong economy. If things aren’t going your way and you aren’t happy with your build, it best to either stick it out or start a new run altogether.
Late game
17. Scorpion can come in handy
Whether you realize it or not, putting Scorpion in your party could make the difference between winning a game and losing. If you choose to put a scorpion in your party, put it at the very front, and try to make it as powerful as possible. It will instant-kill anything that you fight on your opponent's Team, which is extremely powerful!
As you get into late game for Super Auto Pets, you will become locked into your Team and only want to make minimal adjustments. However, it is important to include at least one late-game scaling Pet to make sure your Team leads itself to victory.
Here are some Pets I recommend to scale your Team:
- Monkey: Buffs the Pet at the front of your Team. This is especially good if you have your most powerful Pet at the front of your party
- Black Cat: This Pet will double the effect a Food item would usually offer.
- Seal: Seal will offer random attack buffs to your Team whenever it is fed
19. Food Buffing
It might be tempting, but don’t go for that apple.
Other than scaling your Team, one of the best ways to make your Pets more powerful is to buff them with Food! In the late game, you will find yourself spending more coins on Food, and less on Pets. Here are some tips with Food in the late game:
- AVOID: Apples, Cupcakes, Salad
- EAT THESE: Sushi, Pizza, Pear
20. Don’t forget about Food perks
While you may be tempted to skip Food perks all together, they can be extremely helpful and powerful late game. Early game, you will be using Food perks such as Meat Bone to buff your Team. However, late game you will want to switch these out for better Food perks.
Here are some of the Food perks I find to be the most helpful during late game:
- Steak – adds a +20 attack bonus (yes, you read that right) for the first time a Pet attacks in a round
- Chili Pepper – attacks the Pet behind the Pet your Pet is currently attacking with 5 damage.
- Melon – makes a Pet take 20 less damage the first time that Pet is attacked in a round
21. Doubler scaler
Earlier, I mentioned how it is important to have at least 2-3 Pets that synergize well, which will likely take you all the way to late game. However, what do you do with the other slots in your Team?
I recommend considering adding what is called a “double scaler” to your Team. This means that you will have two Pets in your Team that will buff your Team.
Some Pets that work well to scale your Team are Black Cat, Monkey, and Seal.
22. Mushroom + Mammoth
Don’t think a double scaler works well for your Team? Try the infamous Mushroom and Mammoth combo instead!
Mammoth’s special ability is to give all the Pets on your Team a health and attack boost when it faints. Combined with Mushroom, which revives the Pet as a 1/1, that will make Mammoth’s special ability trigger twice. This will buff your Team like crazy, giving you the boost you may need to take your Team to victory.
23. Always use chocolate
Chocolate is easily one of the most powerful Foods you can put on a Pet in the game. This Food will provide a XP point to a Pet, making it one step closer to leveling up.
When using Chocolate, keep the following in mind:
- Try to use chocolate on Pets that have special abilities you will benefit the most from
- Use chocolate on Pets that are harder to find (i.e. higher-tiered Pets)
- Always freeze chocolate if you don’t have enough coins to purchase it that round
24. Snake
Snake is a highly underestimated Pet that can bring devastating amounts of damage to an enemy Team. When it is behind a Pet that has high health, Snake's special ability will be activated over and over again. Overall, Snake can be a strong addition to your Team if used effectively, especially when paired with other units that complement its strengths.
25. Screenshot that sloth!
And for the last tip of this article, if you see a sloth… SCREENSHOT IT! In my hundreds of hours of playing this game, I have only seen a sloth once, maybe twice. They are extraordinarily rare, and seeing one is so rare that you almost have to put it in your party.
If you do see one, see if you can get it to Level 3 and win, and unlock that extraordinarily rare (near impossible to get) Sloth Ribbon.
Mastering Super Auto Pets is all about finding the right balance between offense and defense, adapting to your opponents' strategies, and taking advantage of synergies between your Pets. So, keep experimenting, stay flexible, and most importantly, have fun comPeting in the adorable world of Super Auto Pets!
