If you liked Pacific Rim, here are the five things you need to know to prepare yourself for Pacific Rim 2.

Legendary Entertainment released a new trailer on July 20, 2017 for Pacific Rim 2, previously called “Pacific Rim 2: Maelstrom”, but renamed “Pacific Rim 2: Uprising”. Here are five fast facts you need to know about the upcoming movie.

1) The Newly Released “Join The Jaeger Uprising” Trailer: Fans received a pleasant surprise when 2017’s San Diego Comic-Con  showed the newly released teaser trailer which shows off the amazing new Jaegers - called “the pinnacle of human invention” – and John Boyega inviting everybody to join the Jaeger uprising. Jaegers are giant robotic weapons which respond to human movement, and have been used to fight against the Kaijus – the fearsome monsters that have killed millions of people and destroyed entire cities – for many years now.

Even though we are used to see Jaegers being controlled by two pilots – each one controlling a hemisphere of the Jaeger, this new trailer shows John Boyega controlling a Jaeger all by himself. We can expect to see some changes to Jaegers made by the Jaeger Program.

2) Release Date: The release date in many countries such as US, UK and Canada for the battle against the monstrous Kaijus is February 23rd, 2018. Pacific Rim 2 joins the list of most anticipated movies of 2018.

In Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Russia, Portugal and New Zealand, the movie will be released one day before. In other countries such as Germany, Denmark and Greece, Pacific Rim 2 will be released the first day of March, 2018; and in Italy it will be released on March 9, 2018.

3) Plot: Guillermo del Toro, writer of this sequel, explained that Pacific Rim 2 will not start where the first one ended. It will continue in a future where the world is free of Kaijus. Del Toro said in 2014 that the movie would talk about “what happens to the world after – what happens to the Jaeger technology once the Kaijus are not a threat”. Now, 10 years after the Battle of the Breach, humans are ready for the return of the Kaijus, and they are prepared with the best technology, and with people willing to be the saviors of humanity.

4) Cast: Just as we can see it the official movie poster, John Boyega is one of the main stars in the cast, and he is playing Stacker Pentecost’s son. Charlie Day, Burn Gorman and Rinko Kikuchi are some of the cast members who were in the first movie and are returning for this sequel. Adria Arjona, (True Detective), will be a part of the new cast of the movie, as well as Tian Jing and Scott Eastwood.

Boyega actually spent his birthday – March 17 – on set. He tweeted “Pleasant surprise! Turning 25 on set with the Pacific Rim family is an absolute joy! Thank you all for the surprise #pacificrimuprising”.

Arjona has also posted a pic showing the team she’s working with. On Instagram, she published: “All the way from down under and from the set of #pacificrim here's proof that we are anything BUT normal. Feels so great to work with such incredibly talented and kind people!”

5) Director: Although the first movie was written and directed by famous director, producer and writer Guillermo del Toro, things changed this sequel. The story is still written by Guillermo del Toro, but now Steven S. DeKnight will be the director of the sequel, and he will be working with a $150 million dollar budget. DeKnight has been acclaimed for TV series Daredevil (2014) and Spartacus: Blood and Sand (2010), so we can expect some good action scenes with Pacific Rim 2.
