[Top 10] Baldur's Gate 3 Best Cleric Feats

Shadowheart, the main Cleric in BG3

Clerics are a powerful healing class in Baldur’s Gate 3. They have a variety of healing and buffing spells that bolster the entire party. This article covers the ten best feats to choose from while playing Baldur’s Gate 3 as a cleric.

10. Magic Initiate: Cleric

The Magic Initiage: Cleric feat in BG3

Learn 2 cantrips and a Level 1 spell from the cleric spell list. You can cast the Level 1 Spell once per Long Rest. Your Spellcasting Modifier for all 3 Spells is Wisdom.

While it may seem odd to choose this feat as a cleric, there are benefits. This feat gives you two more Cleric cantrips and one more Level One cleric spell. When building your cleric, you choose which cantrips and spells to learn. Because the choices are limited, you’ll leave some out. This feat allows you to choose some spells you missed, adding to your versatility.

Why This Feat is Great For Clerics

  • Additional Cantrip: Gain a Cleric cantrip you initially missed
  • Additional spell: Gain a cleric spell you initially missed
  • Versatility: Gain more cleric spells to choose from on the battlefield

9. Sharp Shooter

The Sharpshooter feat in BG3

Your ranged weapon attacks do not receive penalties from High Ground Rules. Ranged weapon attacks with weapons you are proficient with have a -5 penalty to their attack roll but deal an additional 10 damage.

The Sharp Shooter feat is best for players who want their cleric to focus on ranged attacks. By staying away from close combat, enemies have trouble inflicting damage. The cleric can attack from afar while healing the party.

Why This Feat is Great For Clerics

  • Back-line Cleric: Avoid melee damage and focus on healing the party
  • High Ground doesn’t have disadvantage: Attack from the same height as your opponent
  • Ranged combat: Build a cleric focusing on ranged combat rather than melee

8. Spell Sniper

The Spell Sniper feat in BG3

You learn a cantrip and the number you need to roll a Critical Hit while attacking is reduced by 1. This effect can stack.

An extra spell can be the difference between losing and winning in a fight. The Spell Sniper feat gives your cleric an additional cantrip. This feat also reduces the number you must roll on a dice for a critical hit.

The choice of cantrip includes:

  • Bone Chill
  • Eldritch Blast (recommended)
  • Fire Bolt
  • Ray of Frost
  • Shocking Grasp
  • Thorn Whip

Why This Feat Is Great For Clerics:

  • Critical hits: Improved chances of hitting a critical blow to your enemies
  • Extra cantrip: Gain an additional cantrip to your arsenal of spells
  • Increase spell damage: Spells become more powerful

7. Tough

The Tough feat in BG3

Your hit point maximum increased by 2 for each level you have gained.

The Tough feat increases maximum hit points. As clerics are typically the best healers in the party, adding hit points increases their survivability so they can continue to heal allies while in combat. With a healer, combat iseasier. A more resilient cleric is an asset to any party.

Why This Feat Is Great For Clerics

  • Adds hit points: More health means less of a chance of dying in combat
  • Increases resilience: Clerics remain in battle longer to heal party members
  • Save allies: Stay upright during combat to revive and heal allies

6. Sentinel

The Sentinel feat in BG3

When an enemy within melee range attacks an ally, you can use a reaction to make a weapon attack against that enemy. Target ally must not have the Sentinel feat. You gain an Advantage on Opportunity Attacks, when you hit a creature with an Opportunity Attack, it can no longer move for the rest of its turn.

Clerics often need to stick close to allies to heal them, so they benefit from the Sentinel feat. This feat gifts clerics with extra utility when within melee range. The Opportunity Attack ability helps when an enemy retreats, stopping them where they stand and allowing the party to continue up-close combat. Helping control the area of combat is a major strength of this feat.

Why This Feat Is Great For Clerics

  • Control the area: Disrupt enemies moving toward or away from party members
  • Protect weaker allies: Your high AC helps protect weaker party members from enemies
  • Enhances melee combat: Focus on close combat rather than ranged spells

5. Shield Master

The Shield Master feat in BG3

You gain a +2 bonus to Dexterity Saving Throws when wielding a shield. If a spell forces you to make a Dexterity Saving Throw, you can use your reaction to shield yourself and diminish the effect's damage. On a failed save, you only take half the damage. On a successful save, you don't take any damage.

Shield Master focuses on defending your cleric from attacks. You can hold a shield and still cast a spell with your other hand. Typically, when defending against a spell, you’d have to make a saving throw to take only half the damage. With this feat, there’s a chance you won’t receive any damage at all.

Why This Feat Is Great For Clerics

  • Take less damage: If you do well on your saving throw, you don’t get hurt
  • Increase defenses: Clerics have more defensive abilities in combat
  • Save allies: Stay upright during combat with higher defense to revive and heal allies

4. Mobile

The Mobile feat in BG3

Your Movement Speed increases. When you use the Dash action, difficult terrain doesn't slow you down when you use the Dash action. Moreover, if you move after making a melee attack, you don't provoke Opportunity Attacks from your targets

Clerics can use the Mobile feat to increase their movement speed on the battlefield. Ignoring the penalty of moving through difficult terrain makes it easier to place your cleric in the optimal position to cast a spell. Your cleric can reach allies to heal them quicker, hit more enemies with spells like Spirit Guardians, and outmaneuver danger.

Why This Feat Is Great For Clerics

  • Ignore difficult terrain: Cross difficult terrain with ease to get to allies/enemies quicker
  • Increased damage: Enemies are within spell ranges more often
  • Avoid damage: Flee dangerous areas of combat quickly

3. Magic Initiate: Warlock

The Magic Initiate: Warlock feat in BG3

Learn 2 cantrips and a Level 1 spell from the wizard spell list. You can cast the Level 1 Spell once per Long Rest. Your Spellcasting Modifier for all 3 Spells is Intelligence.

All of the Magic Initiate feats are beneficial, but Magic Initiate: Warlock is highly recommended for the cleric class. Learning two new cantrips from a different magical class creates a more versatile spell arsenal on the battlefield. Two of the best cantrips for your cleric include Eldritch Blast, shooting a damaging energy beam, and Blade Ward, granting the caster resistance to damage from weapons.

Why This Feat Is Great For Clerics

  • Versatility: Unlock new categories of cantrips for your spellcaster
  • Eldritch Blast: Gain this powerful cantrip without changing classes
  • Blade Ward: Improve your cleric’s defenses

2. Ritual Caster

The Ritual Caster feat in BG3

You learn two ritual Spells of your choice.

This is one of the most powerful feats available to the cleric class. Clerics can cast these spells without using up a spell slot outside of combat, giving them more spellcasting opportunities without needing to rest. This is perfect for spells such as Disguise Self or Detect Thoughts. As long as these spells are prepared, they are available to use.

Why This Feat Great For Clerics

  • Save a spell slot: Casting ritual spells doesn’t expend a slot when outside of combat
  • Utility spell benefits: Impacts dialogue choices or perception checks
  • Prebuffing allies: Buff allies before a fight without using a spell slot

1. War Caster

The War Caster feat in BG3

You gain advantage on Saving Throws to maintain Concentration on a spell. You can also use a reaction to cast Shocking Grasp at a target moving out of melee range.

The best feat in Baldur’s Gate 3 for clerics is War Caster. If your spellcaster hit constantly in combat, they could easily drop the spell they’re casting. War Caster ensures that doesn’t happen often, giving your cleric advantage on concentration checks and helping them hold their defensive spells up for longer periods.

Why This Feat Is Great For Clerics

  • Boosts concentration: Ensure your spells last during combat
  • Reaction in battle: Shocking Grasp deals damage to retreating enemies
  • Buff allies: Sway the fate of the battle when maintaining concentration spells
