15. Grove Battle
This fight is one of the game's first ‘main’ fights. You’ll be able to decide whether you want to save the grove from the Goblins or help them destroy it. Either way, you’’ have to wipe out an entire army.
The enemies of this fight depend on who you want to side with. If you’ve decided to be a hero, then you’ll be fighting against Minthara and the Goblin army (If you haven’t already wiped them out in the Goblin camp). If you’re doing a bad guy run, then you'll be fighting the Tieflings and the Druids for the sake of the Absolute.
We love this fight because it’s one of the first big decisions you’ll get to be part of in the game. It defines which side you’ll be fighting on and which characters will choose to stay with you. While some players may not be inclined to help the Goblin army, it does open the doors to romance the Drow Minthara.
14. Drunk Kobolds
The enemies of this fight are Kobolds, sneaky little reptiles who love getting into trouble. They’re completely unconscious when you run into them, as they’ve clearly broken into the Monastery’s wine stores and gotten a bit too excited about it.
We love this fight because it’s silly and easy to win. Since they’re all drunk and asleep, you can easily sneak in and surprise them. Also, since the room is filled with firewine, it only takes one good fireball to set all of them alight at once. Just make sure your party is a safe distance away!
13. Angry Ogre
This optional fight can be started in Act 1 if you enter the barn to the North of the Blighted Village after hearing strange noises from inside. There is a chance to avoid this fight altogether if you have a Bard.
The enemies of this fight are a huge Ogre and their Bugbear partner. They get rather angry at you for interrupting their intimate time and pack a pretty nasty punch. For low-level parties, this can be quite a challenging fight.
We love this fight because of its hilarious context. Can you really blame the couple for getting mad when you rudely barged in on them? This fight has the perfect balance of humour and difficulty, and it’s also completely avoidable!
12. Phase Spider Matriarch
This fight is found in Act 1 in the Whispering Depths. It’s another optional fight, but one you’ll need to do if you want to collect the gem that opens the Necromancy of Thay book.
The enemies of this fight are the Matriarch Spider and her children. It’s particularly challenging because there are so many webs on the ground to be stuck on, and she packs quite a powerful punch.
We love this fight because it’s challenging and pretty cool to watch. The Spider’s neon design is intriguing and looks great in the dark depths in which it takes place. If you don’t fancy a battle, it’s also super easy to knock the spider off into the chasm. Don’t worry about missing her valuable loot because you’ll later find her fallen body in the Underdark.
11. Rat Basement
This is a subtle fight during Act 3 if you speak to the chef in the Elsong Tavern. He’ll tell you that there’s a rat problem in the basement and that you need to sort it out. There is, in fact, a rat problem.
The enemies in this fight are exactly what you’d expect: Rats. They may be small and weak, but there are a lot of them!
We love this fight because it’s short and easy. The floor is covered in wine. So, much like the Kobold fight, you can easily just set it alight and wipe them all out.
10. Cazador
The main enemy of this fight is Cazador, a powerful vampire with some pretty annoying tricks. He’s hellbent on completing his ritual to become the most powerful Vampire Ascendent ever. He also has an army of bats and werewolves to keep you occupied.
We love this fight because of the setting and the scene that follows. Having to fight this boss surrounded by his spawn trapped in those blazing red ritual chains is so cool. It really raises the stakes, especially if you’re there to rescue Astarion. Once defeated, players will get to choose between helping Astarion Ascend or convincing him not to. Either one of these scenes is incredibly raw and emotional, wrapping up Astarion’s story.
9. Kuo Toa
This fight occurs during Act 2 if you find the hidden Festering Cove. You’ll run into the Kuo Toa worshipping their God, who, with some convincing, will reveal himself as just a simple Redcap. Once you expose who he is, you can fight him for his position.
The enemy of this fight is the Redcap, who is desperate to keep the power that was willed onto him by the Kuo Toa.
We love this fight because of the consequences. Once defeated, you can convince the Kuo Toa that you are their new God. They will accept you, worship you, and do as you command. You can even ask them to build you an army.
8. The Spectator
This optional fight takes place in the Underdark and is quite challenging to under-levelled players.
The enemies of this fight include the petrified Drows and the Spectator, a giant flying eye. This creature is incredibly powerful and can easily wipe out your party if unprepared. Not to mention that it’s immediately followed by a fight against the Drows you just saved.
We love this fight because it’s a great challenge and quite unexpected. After having to fight a lot of humanoid creatures, it’s great to finally get to a truly hideous and creepy enemy.
7. Yurgir
This fight takes place in Act 2 when exploring the Sharran temple in search of the Nightsong.
The enemies of this fight are Yurgir and his fiends. If you agreed to help Raphael before entering the area, you’ll know that this beast is trapped down there by a contract and needs to be dealt with.
We love this fight because it’s tough but also avoidable. If your persuasion skills are high enough, you can actually convince Yurgir to kill his team, his beast, and then himself. Defeating him is also incredibly useful, as you can then get his help later in the game during the fight with Raphael and also during the Final Battle.
6. Grymforge Guardian
This fight takes place in the Grymforge during Act 1 if you try to use the forge weapon moulds.
The enemy of this fight is the Grymforge Guardian, a huge metal beast that can clear your entire team in a few rounds. You’ll have to defeat this guy if you want to craft the Adamantine weapons and armour.
We love this fight because it seems like it’s hard, but it’s actually a really easy fight. All you have to do is lure the Guardian to the middle of the area and pull the lever to drop the hammer on it. Depending on the difficulty, you can wipe this boss out in 1-4 blows.
5. Ansur
This fight can be triggered if you choose to search for the Bronze Dragon under Wyrm’s Rock Prison during Act 3.
The enemy of this fight is Ansur, the Wyrm that was rumoured to lay underneath the prison, waiting to be called upon for help. After finding out it had been slain years before, it comes back to life to take its revenge.
We love this fight because it’s super entertaining. Finally, getting the chance to battle a dragon feels incredibly rewarding, and the story surrounding it is interesting to learn. Learning about the Emperor’s relationship with it is also quite surprising!
4. Orin
This fight can be found in Act 3 following the Get Orin’s Netherstone quest. After tracking Orin down to the Bhaalist Temple, you’ll have to face her and her followers.
The main enemy of this fight is Orin herself, blessed by the powers of Bhaal and protected by her followers. At the start of this fight, she transforms into a hideous and huge creature, making the fight even harder.
We love this fight because of how challenging it is. Orin is constantly protected by her followers' spells, meaning that you should usually aim to take them out first. She’s powerful, dealing a huge amount of damage at once. Her transformation is also incredibly gory, matching well with the setting and creating a suspenseful and dramatic fight.
3. Ketheric Thorm
This boss fight occurs at the end of Act 2 if you choose to confront Ketheric and take his netherstone.
The main enemy of this fight is Ketheric Thorm, a man corrupted by the powers of Myrkul. He is power-hungry and lethal, making this a difficult fight. Without giving the chance to rest, you’ll then have to fight the huge Apostle of Myrkul right after his death.
We love this fight because it's in two stages. Straight after defeating Thorm, you have to face the Aspostle of Myrkul, who can deal a lot of damage. It’s especially tricky if you took a lot of damage from the previous fight. However, the entire cutscene leading up to it is super creepy and entertaining, making the fight afterwards even more intense.
2. Netherbrain
This fight occurs at the very end of Act 3 once all of your allies are gathered, and you’ve fought your way to the Netherbrain.
The main enemy of this fight is the Netherbrain, an evolved Elder Brain whose sole purpose is to completely dominate the world and enslave everyone in it.
We love this fight because it’s the endgame battle. It’s the boss you’ve been working up to since the start of the game and the fight that wraps up the entire story. It’s challenging, intense, and a fantastically brutal ending to a long adventure.
1. Raphael Fight
This boss fight takes place during Act 3 if you choose to steal the Orphic Hammer in the House of Hope.
The enemy of this fight is Raphael, a devil who wants to take the Crown of Karsus for himself and take over the Hells. He may not notice you entering his House of Hope, but he sure as hell notices when you steal his hammer.
We love this fight because of the atmosphere. The fight is accompanied by one of the best songs in the game, Raphael’s Final Act. This fight is definitely a fan favourite, and it’s easy to see why. It can be challenging, especially if Raphael manages to transform into his second form. The music makes it an incredibly intense fight and immerses the players in the brutal atmosphere.
