When it comes to building and creating your character in Baldur’s Gate 3 you will be presented with countless options. At first glance, it might seem a bit scary and intimidating but it’s easy. At first, you will pick your main race, class, background, stats, etc and later when you level up you will pick skills that suit your playstyle or your build.
One way of building your character is by multiclassing. This option isn’t limited only to your playable character as you can multiclass your companions as well. But what is multiclassing or what does it do? Well, multiclassing a character is building them with multiple classes in mind. Combining a rogue with a bard or a barbarian with a fighter and a ranger etc.
There are a total of 12 classes so you can do different combinations or if you’re crazy enough for each level you can have a different class. With the right combinations, you can become a God of Death. Since there are a lot of multiclass combinations to go for, I'll list the best 10, so with that, let's get into this article!
10. Fighter/Wizard
For this class combination, you’re going the “Fighter” class for armor proficiency so you can wear heavy armor, as soon as you have it switch to the “Wizard” class. With that added protection you won’t be as squishy and having someone get close to you won’t be much of an issue. You’ll also be able to cast “Action Surge,” which allows you to have an additional turn.
As for which spells to go and how to build the wizard class that is solely up to you and your playstyle. This build is fun as it makes your squishy wizard quite tanky and proficient with armors making him a much harder target to kill. It's really fun to play especially if you want to do a wizard playthrough.
Why Fighter/Wizard Is Great:
- Most spell casters in the game are squishy but if you combine it with the “Fighter” class you will be able to wear heavy armor.
- Having enemies or rogues sneak up on you won’t be an issue anymore.
- You’ll be proficient enough to handle great weapons to deal with enemies who are close once you run out of spell slots.
- With the “Wizard” class you can cast spells that deal damage in an area of effect.

9. Paladin/Warlock
Ohhh, this build I'm trying out in my next playthrough. You'll specifically want to be an oath-breaker paladin and for the warlock, go for the “Pact of the Fiend.” This multiclass combination is for a more evil or dark urge playthrough.
This build is all about having finesse with your weapons and your weapon skills. It focuses on giving extra attacks during battle and having the upper edge over enemies. Also, be sure to choose the “Pact of the Blade” specialization for the warlock class.
As for the paladin, be sure to fully commit to the oathbreaker and achieve 7 levels of hate, which doubles your Charisma bonus on damage rolls. It also gives you a high initiative, which increases your chances of attacking first in battle. This build also works well with the dark urge playthrough, and you should try it out if you haven't already.
Why Paladin/Warlock Is Great:
- Having multiple attacks during a single turn, specifically being able to attack 3 to 4 times during a single turn.
- Starting a battle with high initiative you always attack first. It can give you an edge over your enemies and perhaps even end the fight before they have a turn to go at you.
- Picking the “Pact of the Fiend” will improve the damage on the “Eldritch Blast” ability, specifically the higher your charisma skill is the more damage the “Eldritch Blast” will do.

8. Monk/Fighter
This is a sleeper build right here, people. Many of you skip the monk class as you have to fight with your hands, but if you opt for the open hand specialization, you can solo some bosses.
The monk itself is a strong class, especially when you combine the “Fighter” class with it. You can expect to attack 4 to 5 times or even more per turn. The point of this build is specializing in unarmed attacks so going “Open Hand” specialization with the monk is a must.
As well, taking “Tavern Brawler,” is another must as the “Strength” modifier is added twice to your unarmed attacks. The fighter class will give you extra attacks and increase the strength even more which is great when combined with the “Tavern Brawler” for the reasons above.
Why Monk/Fighter Is Great:
- Attacking 4-5 times during a single turn.
- Being able to solo some bosses without the help of your party members.
- Your damage with unarmed attacks is exponentially increased due to the specialization of the “Open Hand” from the monk class and taking the “Tavern Brawler.” The higher your strength skill the more damage your unarmed attacks do.
- Gaining an additional attack from “Action Surge,” which is obtained from the “Fighter Class.”

7. Paladin/Bard
If you can't fight your way through them, then sing your way through. This is a pretty strong multiclass that focuses on bonuses such as charisma and strength. The main reason you want to go with the bard is so that you can talk your way out of a fight and be able to gather NPCs around you or distract enemies for your teammates.
Additionally, the main reason you’ll be going with the bard class is because of the “College of Swords” specialization because it gives you the ability “Slashing Flourish.” It's an extremely strong ability, which allows you to use “Bardic Inspiration” to deal extra damage to two enemies with a melee weapon.
Going with the “Paladin” route is for you to be able to combine smite with “Slashing Flourish.” You have to set “Divine Smite” to be on-hit or on-critical, which then deals radiant damage to enemies with a melee attack. These two combinations will leave all enemies burned and etched into the ground. It's extremely fun to do, and it's pretty strong as well.
Why Paladin/Bard Is Great:
- The build gives you a higher charisma and strength skill from the start.
- The “College of Swords” grants the ability “Slashing Flourish”, which allows the user to use “Bardic Inspiration” to deal extra damage to two enemies with a melee weapon.
- You can apply “Divine Smite” on “Slashing Flourish” making it even stronger.
- With the Paladin class, you’re also able to deal extra radiant damage with your melee attacks.

6. Fighter/Ranger
This build might seem like a basic elf build from any fantasy game ever, but lemme tell you, it's damn strong in melee and ranged combat. It improves the critical hit rate of the build, and you can get better protection and defenses if you choose “Fighting Style: Defense" from the “Fighter” class.
Specifically, “Fighting Style: Defense” gives the user a +1 to AC when wearing armor. Alongside that, the “Fighter” class will also give the player “Action Surge,” which allows the player to use an additional turn or action and improve the overall critical hit rate. As for the “Ranger,” the player will focus on the “Hunter'' subclass and specialize in the sharpshooter.
Additionally, taking the “Multiattack Defense'' will strengthen your defenses against opponents who can attack more than once during a turn. The build is fun due to being viable from long range and in melee, excelling in both. You'll have multiple chances to attack, and you can get some nice defensive stats as well if you play your cards right.
Why Fighter/Ranger Is Great:
- Gains a +1 AC bonus for armor when wearing it due to the “Fighting Style: Defense.”
- Excels at long range combat due to the “Hunter” subclass and sharpshooter specialization, which improve bow proficiency.
- Improving the overall critical hit rate of the build. Specifically, you’ll be able to land a critical hit more often.
- Gaining even more defenses with the “Multiattack Defence” which strengthens the defenses if an enemy can attack you more than once during a single turn.

5. Barbarian/Druid
It’s a combination between the “Barbarian” and “Druid” classes. The great thing about this class combination is that you can still transform into the bear form while you’re under “Rage” from “Barbarian.”
That’s because during your “Rage,” you’ll gain resistance to all damage except psychic, and you’ll gain an advantage on “Strength” and “Saving Throw” rolls. This means you’ll gain high hit points and take half the damage. Not only that, but you’ll also be tanky while being able to dish out huge chunks of damage quickly.
The way you’ll level up the class is simply by going 8 levels into the druid and 4 levels into the barbarian class. The subclass you’ll be going for the “Barbarian” is “Wildheart.” The fun part about this build is being able to tank a ton of damage for your party while also having the option to deal out a high amount of damage and transform into different animals.
Why Barbarian/Druid Is Great:
- As the “Druid” class you can transform into different types of animals.
- Both the “Barbarian” and “Druid” classes, deal out a high amount of damage.
- You’re able to enable “Rage” mode while you transform into a bear or any other animal from the “Druid” class, which means you gain resistance to all damage types except psychic and you’ll gain high hit points.
- You gain an advantage on “Strength” and “Saving Throw” rolls.
- You can tank a high amount of damage without going down easily.

4. Rogue/Barbarian
Want to sneak behind enemy lines, then go berserk on them and slaughter a whole army? Well, if you do, then this class combination is for you, my friend. With the “Berserk” class, you gain an advantage on all attack rolls because of the “Reckless Attack,” but the rogue can transform them into “Sneak Attacks.”
The rogue ability “Sneak Attack” deals extra damage to opponents who are at a disadvantage or are distracted. If you manage a successful critical strike, it can lead to restoring your action points, which can lead to even more successful attacks.
Additionally, due to the “Berserker” subclass, you’ll also gain “Frenzy” which gives an additional attack for the turn and you also gain extra resistance to physical damage. That’s the fun part about this build, being a killing machine or a one man army. You don’t have to rely on your allies, and you don’t have to worry about being overwhelmed by enemies.
Why Barbarian/Rogue Is Great:
- Landing a critical strike will restore an action point.
- Having an extra attack per turn due to “Frenzy” as it gives an additional action per every turn, it also gives extra resistance against physical damage.
- “Reckless Attack” gives you an advantage on all attack rolls.
- “Sneak Attack” deals extra damage to enemies who are distracted or at a disadvantage.
- Sneaking around enemies without being noticed.

3. Warlock/Sorcerer
If you're an “Eldritch Blast” enjoyer like myself but don't feel like going for a warlock build, then just mix it up with the sorcerer class. But firstly you need to obtain the main ability “Eldritch Blast” and then multiclass into the sorcerer class.
The sorcerer can juggle sorcery points for spell slots. Warlock can deal more damage with “Eldritch Blast” if you go with the “Pact of the Fiend,” as the higher charisma gives you more damage on the ability.
As for the sorcerer, the best way to deal damage is with the thunder spells. This build is fun as you're able to cast multiple spells, and you can juggle sorcery points as you wish, which makes your spells stronger.
Why Warlock/Sorcerer Is Great:
- The “Sorcerer” class can juggle sorcery points for spell slots.
- “Pact of the Fiend” deals extra damage with “Eldritch Blast,” as the damage scales with the charisma skill. The higher the charisma, the higher the damage.
- Specializing in thunder spells with the “Sorcerer” will give you the best results with this multiclass build. Especially, if you have someone who can either summon water or throw water barrels so that electricity lasts longer and deals more damage.
- The sorcery points can be used to alter other spells also known as “Metamagic.” In short, it makes the spells stronger than they already are.

2. Rogue/Ranger
One great thing about this multiclass combination is that it gives you a chance for a one-hit kill option. That one-hit kill option comes in clutch when going against multiple targets at once. It's also amazing on higher difficulties, making it a must have in your party.
The class combination between a rogue and a ranger allows you to jump the enemy and ambush them. This class combination heavily relies on dealing extra damage to surprised enemies, so sneaking around is a must.
You’ll be focusing on the subclass “Assassin” from the “Rogue” class and the “Gloom Stalker” subclass from the “Ranger” class. Look, if you have played through Skyrim as a stealth archer, then this build is for you. It’s mega fun, plus one-shooting targets will never get boring.
Why Rogue/Ranger Is Great:
- This class combination allows the players to do a one-hit kill. It comes really useful for harder difficulties and if you’re going up against 7+ enemies.
- Because of the “Rogue” class, you’re able to deal extra damage to surprised enemies who aren’t aware of you or enemies who are at a disadvantage.
- Both the “Rogue” and “Ranger” classes heavily focus on sneaking around and ambushing enemies.

1. Barbarian/Rogue/Fighter
Since berserkers excel in almost everything when it comes to combat, you can build them however you want. They especially excel when they’re throwing weapons at an enemy's face. So that’s what this build will focus on. With the class combinations from “Rogue” and “Fighter,” the number of times you can attack per turn will increase, which means you can throw your weapon multiple times per turn.
The main weapon you’ll want to use with this build is “Nyrulna,” which returns to your hands when thrown. It’s also highly important that you stand on top of a rock or anywhere high to have an advantage against your enemies. You’ll also use a huge giant sword for this multiclass build, just in case anyone can get close to you.
Alongside all of those, you also gain the abilities “Frenzy” and “Rage” because of the “Barbarian” class. “Frenzy” will give you a bonus action point and make your throws even stronger, so it’s important to activate it each time you enter a fight. While “Rage” will make your character more resistant to damage.
As for the “Rogue,” you want to get “Fast Hands,” which gives you a bonus action point during a turn, and for the “Fighter,” you want to get the “Champion” which improves the overall critical hit rate. The build is fun, as you’re able to throw a weapon a few times during a turn and have it return to your hands. Also, you can attack 5-6 times per turn alone. This build is pretty damn OP and fun to do.
Why Barbarian/Rogue/Fighter Is Great:
- The class combination allows you to attack 5-6 times per turn.
- The “Nyrulna” throwable weapon can return to your hands, and you can throw it multiple times during a single turn.
- The “Rage” ability grants resistances to all damage types except psychic, while the “Frenzy” ability improves the damage on all throwable weapons.
- The class combination has a massive improvement in strength skills.
- If enemies get too close to you, you can either push them away from you because of your huge strength skill or you can slash them down with a huge greatsword.
