Mounts are optional content, but for many MMO players, including FFXIV players, a cool or crazy mount is a must-have. In fact, owning their favorite mount can be so important that players will put in hundreds of hours of PVP, crafting, raiding, and other content just to get it!

10. Alkonost

The newest mount in the game, Alkonost.

Alkonost is one of the newest mounts added to the game just recently in the patch 6.1, Newfound Adventure. 

How Alkonost looks awesome and badass:

• The mount has a fantastic appearance. It is a hybrid of many different species, including the bird, the stag, and the phoenix.
• Because it is still brand new, the mount is still fresh, and not many people have it, making it one of the rarest mounts in the game for the time being.
• It can also be sold in the Market Board, so players who want it can easily get it without grinding, and players who don't want it but have gotten it by chance can sell it in the Market Board for Gil.

How to get Alkonost:

• From the Market Board, around 9 million Gil for one Alkonost.
• Trading 3 Resplendent Feathers to Nesvaaz in Radz-at-Han.
• Players can get Resplendent Feathers through Kumbhiraskin Treasure Maps as one of the rewards for finding the treasure.
• Similarly, players can get this treasure map by gathering in level 90 nodes, or buying them from the Market Board for less grind.

9. Demi-Phoinix

Another new mount recently introduced in Endwalker, Demi-Phoinix.

Demi-Phoinix is the newest raid mount available in FFXIV, and it is a reward for players for clearing the last savage raid of the current tier of the Pandaemonium raid.

How Demi-Phoinix looks awesome and badass:

• The mount is the boss for the third boss fight in the recent current tier Pandaemonium raid, which makes it extremely cool that players can have a mount of a boss they have beaten with their own hands.
• Pandaemonium Savage's third raid, also known as P3S, is also known as one of the hardest raids in Pandaemonium tier right now, which makes the boss even cooler.
• It is shaped like a phoenix and has four red wings and three heads, making it one of the most visually appealing mounts in the game.

How to get Demi-Phoinix:

• Clear Asphodelos: The Fourth Circle (Savage).
• This raid is one of the hardest raids in the game currently, so players are recommended to create a static and watch a guide on YouTube of all savage raids in order to clear it.

8. Gilded Mikoshi

A golden mount worthy of many praises.

Gilded Mikoshi is one of the rarest mounts in the game currently, simply because of its outrageous price.

How Gilded Mikoshi looks awesome and badass:

• The mount itself emits Gil (FFXIV's in-game currency) every second, making it very eye-catching.
• It is one of the most expensive mounts in the game, costing 50 million Gil and available from the vendor in Mor Dhona.
• Mikoshi are one of the native fish tribes in Final Fantasy XIV, specifically the Namazu tribe, which was introduced in the Stormblood expansion. Having the children
• Because of its high price, it is one of the rarest mounts in the game, and this fact is well-known among players.

• The mount is also one of the rarest in the game, with less than 1% of players possessing it. As a result, owners of Pteranodons can definitely brag about having one of the rarest mounts after a long grind.
• Because of the long grind to obtain this mount, many players recognize it and will be astounded if they see one, and if you are the owner of this exact same mount, many other players will be astounded by your dedication to grinding to obtain this mount.

How to get Pteranodon:

• Unlock The Firmament by finishing the Main Story Questline in Heavensward. 
• Level up all your gatherers and crafters to level 80 or above, it is the only way to get the points needed to grind for Pteranodon.
• Gather and Craft Expert Recipes and submit them to the NPCs in The Firmament to get points.
• Reach 500,000 points in every gatherer and crafter class in The Firmament to get the mount.

6. Cerberus

The three-headed giant that can fit up to three players on top of it, Cerberus.

Cerberus is a mount introduced in the Shadowbringers expansion, and it is one of the mounts that can hold multiple players on top of it, which is a good choice for when a player is playing with their friends.

How Cerberus looks awesome and badass:

• The mount is one of the coolest-looking mounts in the game, with three heads and a fierce and ferocious appearance.
• Players who enjoy the lore of Cerberus and the fact that Cerberus is also the guard dog of the underworld will enjoy this mount.
• It is also one of the most difficult mounts to obtain in the game.
• It is one of the few mounts that can accommodate up to three players on top of it. This is extremely rare, as most mounts with this feature are Mogstation-only items, requiring players to pay real money to obtain them.
• Cerberus, on the other hand, can be obtained through a game-wide grind.

How to get Cerberus:

• Unlock Bozja in Shadowbringers by clearing all Alliance Raid Quest in Stormblood, as well as completing the Main Story Questline up to 5.1
• Clear Delubrum Reginae (Savage) and get the mount.

5. Magicked Card

4. Kamuy of the Nine Tails

The fox with the nine tails, Kamuy of the Nine Tails.

Unlike all the previous mounts, Kamuy of the Nine Tails has been added into the game for a while, specifically in the Stormblood expansion.

How Kamuy of the Nine Tails looks awesome and badass:

• It is currently one of the largest mounts in the game, nearly ten times the size of the player, making it one of the most visually appealing mounts in the game.
• It also appears more appealing with the glowy red tails, particularly the nine tails they have.
• Not to mention, players can only obtain this mount after completing all of the Stormblood extreme trials, making it somewhat difficult to obtain.
• Because of the grind, it is also one of the rarest mounts in the game right now, as not many players have all of the mounts from all of Stormblood's extreme trials.

How to get Kamuy of the Nine Tails:

• Get all seven Kamuys from the Stormblood extreme trials, specifically the Hallowed Kamuy, Euphonious Kamuy, Lunar Kamuy, Auspicious Kamuy, Legendary Kamuy, Reveling Kamuy, and Blissful Kamuy.
• After collecting all seven mounts, take the side quest ‘A Lone Wolf No More’ from Kugane, and complete the side quest to get the mount Kamuy of the Nine Tails.

3. Landerwaffe

The one and only mecha dragon in the game, Landerwaffe.

Landerwaffe is another mount introduced in the Shadowbringers expansion, although very late into the expansion.

How Landerwaffe looks awesome and badass:

Landerwaffe, like Kamuy of the Nine Tails, is a 'collective mount' that players can obtain after completing all of the expansion's extreme trials.

• It is one of the most unique mounts in the game due to its mecha dragon appearance. Players who enjoy this type of visual will adore this mount.
• Because this mount was only recently added in the late expansion of Shadowbringers, it is one of the rarest mounts in the game.
• Furthermore, Landerwaffe is a two-seater mount, which means that players can fit themselves as well as a friend on top of the mount.
• Because multiple-seater mounts are uncommon outside of Mogstation mounts, the Landerwaffe is even more unique and eye-catching.

How to get Landerwaffe:

• Get all seven Gwibers from the Shadowbringers extreme trials, specifically the Diamond Gwiber, Ruby Gwiber, Emerald Gwiber, Shadow Gwiber, Gwiber of Light, Fae Gwiber, and Innocent Gwiber.
• Take the side quest ‘The Dragon Made’ from Warmachina Fanatic in the Lochs, then complete the side quest in order to get the Landerwaffe mount.

2. Astrope

The unicorn comes alive, the Astrope Mount!

Astrope is definitely one of the coolest mounts in the game because it resembles a regal unicorn, but it is also one of the hardest to get.

How Astrope looks awesome and badass:

• The mount itself resembles a regal unicorn with wings and a lovely tail, making it very appealing and beautiful.
• Astrope is another two-seater mount, which is uncommon because most multi-seater mounts, including two-seaters, are locked in Mogstation stores, requiring players to pay real money to obtain the mount.
• Astrope is thus one of the two-seater mounts that players can obtain in-game without spending any money.
• As a result, players can ride this mount with their beloved friend to explore the realms of Eorzea together.
• It is one of the rarest mounts in the game, as it is extremely difficult to obtain, requiring days or even months of grinding, similar to the Pteranodon Mount.

How to get Astrope:

• Unlock the Mentor System by applying to become a Mentor. Players must be a Battle Mentor to get this mount, which requires them to have a max level on at least 1 Tank, 1 Healer, and 1 DPS.
• Get 500 commendations by playing their game with other people.
• Unlock and finish all dungeons, trials, and raids, including extreme trials, but Savage and Ultimate Raids are not mandatory.
• Unlock the Mentor Roulette by doing so, and do Mentor Roulette 2000 times in order to get the achievement ‘I Hope Mentor Will Notice Me’.
• Get the reward for the achievement, which is the Astrope Mount.

1. Demi-Ozma

Demi-Ozma is the only mount that can constantly change their look and shape in the game.

Demi-Ozma is one of the rarest mounts in the game, but also looks the most cool. This is simply because Demi-Ozma is the only mount that can constantly change their look and shape without need of the player’s input, making it incredibly eye-catching.

How Demi-Ozma looks awesome and badass:

• The appearance of the mount alone is enough to place it at the top of this list as one of the free mounts that looks freakin' awesome.
• It is incredibly eye-catching as the only mount in the game that can constantly change its shape, especially when combined with the glossy and mixed colors of the mount itself.
• It is also one of the rarest mounts in the game, as it is extremely difficult to obtain, making it even more noticeable whenever a player is spotted using it.
• If you have this mount, you will undoubtedly steal the show and become the center of attention!

How to get Demi-Ozma:

• Unlock Eureka by completing the Stormblood Main Scenario Questline and taking all side quests related to Eureka.
• Grind through Eureka instances until you have unlocked the last instance of Eureka, Eureka Hydatos.
• Get maximum level in Eureka, level 60, and participate in the 54-man-raid, the Baldesion Arsenal.
• You may have difficulty in trying to finish this raid blind, so make sure to watch a guide on how to clear the raid as well as find a group that can do it cleanly to raise your chance of clearing it.
• Get the achievement ‘We’re on Your Side’ after clearing Baldesion Arsenal to get the Demi-Ozma mount.
