[Top 5] Mad Max Best Ways to Get Scrap

Mad Max Best Ways to Get Scrap
The future looks pretty bleak in the Wasteland.

What are some tricks to getting more scrap?

Aside from defeating Scrotus, collecting scrap is the most important thing you will do in Mad Max. Scrap is like currency in the Wasteland, allowing you to purchase upgrades for the Magnum Opus as well as Max himself.

Luckily, collecting scrap is a natural part of gameplay, and you will find multiple opportunities throughout the storyline to collect your fair share.

However, if you’re in a hurry to get the Big Chief V8 for the Magnum Opus or if you want to upgrade Max to be the ultimate killing machine, you’ll want to maximize your scrap pillaging early in the game.

Read on for the top 5 best ways to get scrap in Mad Max.

5. The Volition Ability

The Volition ability allows you to collect more scrap every time you loot, with each Griffa token spent on this ability netting you 5% more scrap.

Fully upgrading the Volition ability should be one of your top priorities once you meet Griffa and start earning tokens.

There are plenty of opportunities for looting scrap as you wander the Wasteland and complete story objectives. Having the Volition ability and upgrading it with Griffa every chance you get will make your looting efforts more worthwhile.

How the Volition Ability Works:

  • Earn Griffa tokens by completing missions and game objectives.
  • Look for the Griffa icon on your map, and go there to speak with Griffa himself to use the tokens to upgrade your abilities.
  • Every Griffa token spent on Volition earns you the ability to acquire 5% more scrap every time you loot.
  • Loot camps and scavenging locations until your heart is content.

4. Muthaloot Crates

Details:

Mad Max - Muthaloot in Storms - Lots of Scrap

The first time you encounter a dust storm in the Wasteland, you may be tempted to flee in the opposite direction. These storms are not only full of swirling dust that makes visibility almost non-existent, but lightning bolts will randomly shoot from the clouds and electrocute anything they touch.

You should fight your fear and ride these storms out for the chance to snag a Muthaloot crate. These crates will only appear during storms, and each crate you manage to smash will reward you with 300 scrap.

Be sure to upgrade the Magnum Opus and Max with plenty of armor, and bring a full canteen just in case you need to replenish your health along the way.

Either grab the Muthaloot crate with the harpoon on the Magnum Opus to smash the crate on some rocks. Or, if you dare, exit your vehicle and shoot the crate with your shotgun. I recommend the former method, as ammo in the game can be very scarce.

How Muthaloot Crates Work:

  • When Chumbucket warns of a coming storm, drive towards it.
  • As you drive into the storm, be on the lookout for Muthaloot crate icons to appear on your map.
  • Grab a crate with the harpoon on the Magnum Opus to smash the crate on rocks, or exit the vehicle to shoot the crate into pieces.
  • Collect the pieces of scrap that come out of the Muthaloot crate.

3. Stealing A Scrapulance

How to Farm Scrap in Mad Max

Throughout the game, there are many exciting vehicles that you will come across and be able to steal to add them to your collection at a stronghold. The most notable of these vehicles is the Scrapulance.

Scrapulances can be found traveling throughout the Wasteland as they deliver scraps to Scrotus, and sometimes you can find them parked at enemy camps, just waiting to be stolen.

Take care not to destroy a Scrapulance if you should come across one. Driving an intact Scrapulance back to a stronghold will get you a whopping 500 scrap while destroying one will get you less than 50 scrap.

You will usually be able to snatch a Scrapulance driver from the vehicle to steal it. Or, you can simply get out of the Magnum Opus as soon as you spot the Scrapulance for a chance that the driver will circle back to you. After unsuccessfully trying to run you over, the driver will become impatient and leave the vehicle, where you can easily overcome him with melee combat and steal his ride.

How Stealing a Scrapulance Works:

  • Look for a Scrapulance while driving or going through an enemy camp. Scrapulances will have a gear icon above them.
  • Successfully eliminate the Scrapulance driver without destroying the vehicle, or steal one directly from a camp without anyone noticing.
  • Carefully drive the Scrapulance back to the nearest stronghold, which will automatically add the car to your vehicle inventory and collect the 500 scrap.

2. Scavenger Encounters

Details:

Mad Max - Scavenger Encounters - All Territories

Scavenger encounters can be found throughout the Wasteland, and they usually require nothing more than speaking to someone who will then give you scrap.

The easiest way to find all of these Scavenger encounters is to complete the Survey Crew projects within strongholds. Once these projects are completed, all Scavenger encounters within that stronghold’s territory will be marked on your map.

Some Scavenger encounters involve exploring a small hidden area that may contain enemies and looting what they leave behind. In some of these locations, you may even come across a Scrap Pallet. These pallets are rare within the game, but each one can get you at least 50 scrap, sometimes more.

How Scavenger Encounters Work:

  • Complete Survey Crew projects in a stronghold to mark Scavenger encounters within that territory on your map.
  • Travel to each Scavenger encounter and either speak to the character in that location or explore the area to defeat a few enemies.
  • Collect the scrap that the Wastelander shares with you or loot the enemies' crates left behind.

1. Cleanup Crew

Details:

Mad Max - Upgrading Jeet's Stronghold - How To Get Cleanup Crew Parts

Perhaps the easiest way to obtain scrap in Mad Max is by completing the Cleanup Crew projects within each stronghold.

Cleanup Crews will then automatically add scrap to your inventory every time you destroy an enemy vehicle, allowing you to keep driving without having to stop and get out to collect the scrap every time.

This is a pretty simple strategy that will let you destroy more vehicles at a faster pace, thus netting you more scrap overall. Plus, it keeps you safer by letting you stay in the comfort of the Magnum Opus, as exiting your vehicle would make you an instant target for any enemies driving by looking to run you over.

How the Cleanup Crew works:

  • Visit any stronghold and check the requirements for the Cleanup Crew project.
  • Collect the necessary project parts and return to the stronghold to complete the Cleanup Crew project.
  • Sit back and relax in the driver’s seat while you destroy enemy vehicles and automatically collect their scrap.
