Project Zomboid Best Ways To Gain Weight

The top five ways to lose weight in Project Zomboid
An underweight Project Zomboid Character

There are a few negatives to having an underweight character in Project Zomboid. Underweight characters have lower fitness, reduced strength, a higher chance of falling when running, and more fall damage.

1) Helpful traits

Traits that change weight

There are two traits in character creation that will make your character start the game underweight. There is underweight and very underweight. The best trait to pair with either underweight trait is light eater. A light eater will lower how much your character needs to eat to be full by 25%. This helps save food around your base and allows players to keep their characters fuller.

2) Keep food in your character’s inventory

When trying to help your character gain weight, it’s important to keep food in your inventory when you leave your base. Canned foods are a great option. The cans don’t weigh too much, so they won’t take up your inventory. Though you should make sure to keep can openers in your inventory as well, since most canned foods require a can opener to eat the food inside.

3) Regularly check your character’s weight

An important part of having your character gain weight is checking their weight constantly. A character’s weight is available in their information panel, which players can find through the heart icon on the left side of their screen. Keeping this panel open on the side is useful when trying to gain weight, since there will be icons showing if your character is losing weight or gaining weight.

4) Eat higher-calorie foods

Finding high-calorie foods high in carbs and fats will also help your character gain weight. This means eating more canned food and snacks. Fish are also a great food in Project Zomboid to help your character gain weight. Fish can be caught in most bodies of water using a spear or a fishing rod.

5) Avoid overeating

A character that's overweight

Even though the goal may be to make your character gain weight, especially if they’re underweight, it’s important not to force them to overeat. Making your character eat too much in one day can quickly send your character from being underweight to being overweight. So monitoring the weight gain or loss icons as well as not eating too much in one day gives players more control over their characters’ weight.
