Who will rank on top in the Soul Calibur VI Tier List?
Grøh, one of the new additions to Soul Calibur VI's character roster.
Soul Calibur VI has a number of characters who are played in the competitive scene. But who is exactly the worst or best character in terms of tiers ranging from low to high? Here is an official tier list that points out who is a great pick and who is not!
Fighting games have been a huge part of the video game tournaments, and Soul Calibur is no exception. Even though the game has been out for almost a month now, Soul Calibur VI has made its way into the competitive scene featuring famous players like SonicFox. Here are all of the Soul Calibur VI characters ranked from worst to best in the competitive scene.
A Tier (Offers incredible move sets while also having great recovery. Players that are excellent at these characters will more than likely have the overall chance of winning)
- Azwel: 81/100
- Siegfried: 85/100
- Maxi: 89/100
- Groh: 90/100
- Ivy: 93/100
- Yoshimitsu: 95/100
- Geralt: 98/100
B Tier (Decent all-around. Might not necessarily be the best, but they can provide interesting techniques)
- Kilik: 56/100
- Seong Mi-na: 57/100
- Taki: 60/100
- Talim: 65/100
- Voldo: 69/100
- Xianghua: 72/100
- Sophitia: 76/100
- Cervantes: 79/100
C Tier (Might be able to pull off some combos, but some characters lack recovery and might have unfair matchups. Not usually recommended but can have surprises)
- Astaroth: 27/100
- Nightmare: 31/100
- Zasalamel: 35/100
- Raphael: 40/100
- Mitsurugi: 46/100
- Tira: 48/100
N/A (Banned from online play, therefore it will not be ranked according to the ranked tiers)
• Inferno: N/A/100
22. Inferno (Banned from online play)
To start off the tier list, we have the elephant in the room Inferno. He is incredibly powerful and has the potential to be a high tier character. However, due to him being banned in online play, it is best that he is not officially ranked. He is not necessarily bad, but him being unplayable online shows that he is just too good for any of the characters in Soul Calibur VI. It is also likely that he will not be playable in future tournaments.
-C Tier-
21. Astaroth (C Tier)
Coming at the bottom of this list is Astaroth. While he does have the high damaging moves, his recovery does not help him fare to the rest of the characters. Power does not always mean everything. He is rather slow, which gives him a disadvantage against agile and speedy characters. Those that choose to pick this fighter will have to be very experienced to master Astaroth.
20. Nightmare (C Tier)
Nightmare is one of the easiest characters to pick up in Soul Calibur VI. That is one of the main problems with the Azure Knight since while he is easy to use, he does not have a high combo count to be considered “good.” Like with Astaroth, high damaging moves do not always mean an instant victory. Players who main other characters with high experience will be able to defeat this seemingly cheap character.
19. Zasalamel (C Tier)
This intriguing sorcerer who debuted in Soul Calibur III makes his return after being cut from Soul Calibur V. Zasalamel is a rather mixed bag when it comes to his fighting style. He used to be a tricky character to play as, but recently, he is easier to pick up thanks to the release of Soul Calibur VI. With that said, he can be predictable with his combos, so while he isn’t necessarily a terrible choice, players will have to be creative to pull off a fantastic Zasalamel.
18. Raphael (C Tier)
Raphael is one of the veteran characters who managed to get into the Soul Calibur V roster, but just like the previous game, he is considered low tier in competitive play. He is versatile, but his Soul Calibur II incarnate will always reign supreme. It’s a shame that he got nerfed, but he is a fun character in his own right. Players who still main Raphael will have to mix up some interesting maneuvers to make the French nobleman unpredictable.
17. Mitsurugi (C Tier)
Like the previous entry, Mitsurugi used to be one of the popular choices for tournaments and online play. He has mid-range moves which helps him attack opponents at a good distance. But with the updated fighting mechanics and new characters arriving in future installments, Mitsurugi has passed his glory days. Still, he is not necessarily the worst pick out of the roster in Soul Calibur VI.
16. Tira (C Tier)
Tira has always been a difficult character to master, and to this day, it is no different. Whether to be Jolly or Gloomy is a sticky situation for dishing out damage and combos. While it is not necessarily a bad thing, damaging herself to change emotions can be a risky move, and players who are confident playing as Tira will know when it is okay or not okay to do it.
-Mid-Tier-
15. Kilik (B Tier)
Kilik becoming the main protagonist in the story mode of Soul Calibur VI might be a great thing, but does it help him hold on his own as a capable fighter? To that, the answer is yes. While he is not necessarily the best, he is not a terrible choice either. If you want a lance-wielding fighter who can chain moves with ease, then he is an excellent pick.
14. Seong Mi-na (B Tier)
Like Kilik, Seong Mi-na has her fair share of moves that can benefit her thanks to her long-ranged weapon and unique playstyle. Seong Mi-na is a bit superior due to having better zoning and speed. In a way, both Seong Mi-na and Kilik are equal to each other and have their own strengths and weaknesses.
13. Taki (B Tier)
The lovely ninja Taki might have slowly fallen from grace, but she still has her strengths which make her shine. She is one of the combo queens and given the right moment, Taki will be able to take on any opponent with the worthy player. She is agile, quick, and a smart pick to take on any slow-moving characters. It’s no wonder why Taki is still a popular pick among both casual and serious players.
12. Talim (B Tier)
Talim being in the mid-tier section is considered salvation, despite falling a bit short compared to the likes of her incarnation in Soul Calibur II. To the relief of Talim fans, her move set is still versatile which can help her dish out outstanding combos. Not only that, she can cancel out Reversal Edge as bait, making her someone you don’t want to waste time with. If there is one problem, then it would be that anyone can crouch to guard and dodge her mix-ups. But if the player controlling Talim can outsmart their opponents, then the wind will guide them both to victory.
11. Voldo (B Tier)
This bizarre specimen might be one of the surprising picks for mid-tier, but Voldo has his quirks that make him a capable choice. His unorthodox playstyle is wonderous and it will be a pain for players who must deal with a Voldo main. He is unpredictable, and his movements capitalize those aspects. It takes a legend to be able to take down the toughest of Voldo players.
10. Xianghua (B Tier)
Xianghua is a very balanced character that can work out against the odds. While she might not have the strongest hitting moves, she has the agility and range to give her a chance. She might look easy, but she requires a lot of skill to master her. A Xianghua player has to be in control of the match in order to win. There might be at times where Xianghua can be predictable, but she is swift and has one of the best recoveries in the game.
9. Sophitia (B Tier)
Sophitia, alongside Xianghua, is the perfect definition of a balanced character. This blonde beauty is slightly better since her moves can be pulled off a bit easier. If you want the perfect match for the use of Reversal Edge, then this Greek warrior will prove supreme. She is destined for close ranged fighting, so players that favor mid or long-ranged fighters will be salty when they get their butt kicked against a Sophitia player.
8. Cervantes (B Tier)
The former wielder of Soul Edge just barely made his way into the high tier, but he has been one of the best fighters in the competitive scene. Ranged attacks, high damaging combos, and speedy recovery make Cervantes a force to be reckoned with. Along with a fast input on the moves, this pirate will be a threatening opponent to face online or in tournaments by those who specialize in him.
-High Tier-
7. Azwel (A Tier)
Azwel is deliciously over-the-top and his move set adds to that as well. His range is crazy and that is impressive for someone who has made their debut in Soul Calibur VI. He might look overpowered, but he has his fair share of weaknesses regarding his stances. While that is one of his biggest flaws, he rightfully claims his slot in the high tier section.
6. Siegfried (A Tier)
Being the fateful counterpart to Nightmare, Siegfried redeems himself by becoming a lot better compared to Soul Calibur V. He has superior mixups in combos which can help him recover and get out of harm’s way. Moving from one stance to another in a match will be a huge lifesaver for those who plays him. Welcome back to the big league, Siegfried.
5. Maxi (A Tier)
Maxi has always been one of the best characters due to his endless streams of attacks. While he has been slightly nerfed throughout the years, this nunchaku wielder still remains a high tier character. Ranging from non-stance moves to his safe block strings, Maxi is a safe character to use and professionals can rely on him to recover when needed.
4. Grøh (A Tier)
Alongside Azwel, Grøh makes his debut in the rebooted franchise and he has certainly made the first impression. Grøh is an easy character to use, but he has so many advantages that make him a standout in online and tournaments. For example, his Soul Charge is a one-way ticket for making a comeback. He has been a popular choice ever since his reveal and it is easy to see why.
3. Ivy (A Tier)
Ivy Valentine is not only one of the most iconic characters due to her risqué but interesting design, but her move set is excellent. Having 50/50 mid-screen moves helps her have great range and give her an advantage. She has always been one of the best characters competitive wise and it’s no wonder why many players still use her to this day.
2. Yoshimitsu (A Tier)
This came as a surprise since Yoshimitsu is an incredibly tricky character, but those that main him will be rewarded greatly. At first, he was considered mostly mid-tier, but now that the fighting mechanics have greatly improved, Yoshimitsu makes his way into the top 2. Players who are not used to facing Yoshimitsu might have trouble facing this bizarre yet memorable character.
1. Geralt (A Tier)
The one to rank the top of this tier list is the guest character Geralt from The Witcher series. Bandai Namco outdid themselves with creating a move set that fits Geralt, while also making him one of the best characters in the game. He is very steady and his combos, while pulling off decent damage, needs to be mastered for a player to dominate with Geralt. Right now, there is no stopping this Witcher.
