Strange and Creepy Cartoons

Here’s to all my freaky humans out there who get a weird kick out of watching disturbing and distressing things. Over the years, countless T.V series have been conjured up in an attempt to earn a spot on the creep chart. I’ve dug up a few of the strangest cartoons that will whisk up your stomach's contents.

10. The Mighty B!

Nickelodeon continues to be a massive production industry, delivering magical and crazy animated series. The Mighty B showcased on Nickelodeon from April 2008 to January 2010. It’s a delightful show following  high-spirited Bessie and her dog Happy. Bessie is convinced once she collects all her Honeybee scout badges, she will reign as a superhero.

The Mighty B possesses super off-beat and kind of gross humor. Creators went off the beaten path by throwing in violence, immense stupidity, and brainless comedy. The characters facial expressions are a bit disturbing at times, displaying funky wide eyes and large jagged teeth.

Bessie and her mates look beautiful. At points during episodes, freeze frames capture disturbing and gross scenes which can be super unsettling.

Bessie is upbeat and optimistic compared to her narcissistic cast. Creepy and dark musical numbers cater to its respectable clip. All in all, it’s not for weak stomachs as the episodes range from characters consuming chewed up food to Bessie literally eating boogers to become intentionally sick.

9. Jay Jay the Jet Plane

https://youtu.be/WDUDpmL-RwI

In a time where CGI animation ruled the screen, Jay Jay the Jet Plane launched back in 1998. It became a beloved show by many young children who were enamored by the squeaky characters. Jay Jay and his airplane buddies are meant to educate and entertain young viewers, but something feels a bit eerie about the series.

Jay Jay and his pals aren’t any ordinary flying machines. The planes have human faces with plushy cheeks and creepy, glassy eyes. Animation stylists did their best with what they had, but it’s pretty traumatic when you really look into it.

First off, their eyes don’t match up with the direction they’re faced.

The googly, human-like eyeballs struggle to keep up with the rest of the characters movements. Puppet- like mouth sequences are actually pretty freaky looking back as an adult.

It’s light mood and overall tone even out the disturbing features of the human/plane animation collaboration. The series died out after a few reboots took place- thank god.

8. Tutenstein

https://youtu.be/-TEYvVqRAj4

Egyptian Pharaoh, Tutenstein is dismayed after awakening 3,000 years after his time to find he is no longer in power. In the 21st century, Cleo witnesses his revival and guides Tut in the new era. The series was favorable starting up in 2003 and ending in 2008. The show goes a bit beyond the whim of children as it takes place deep in King Tut's dark resting place.

The concept is light and unique making it attractive for young kids. Tutensteins careless and clumsy nature distracts from his horrifying appearance. His dead, glowing eyes and bandaged body doesn’t exactly put kids to bed.

It exhibits ghastly characters with haunting appearances and evil intentions. The music is sharp and spooky, building up suspense and uneasiness. Tutenstein has a Scooby- Doo sense to it, only with more malicious and screwed up plots. Cast members have zombie- like presences playing along with the show's dead theme.

7. The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack

https://youtu.be/191X6hF7cj8

Flapjack speaks for itself within the first few seconds of an episode's beginning. The story is set on Stormalong Harbor where Flap and Captain K’nuckles, and Bubbie the whale search for Candied Island. The show is geared towards young teens and adults who enjoy extremely disturbing scenes and characters.

The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack is easily one of the most unsettling Cartoon Network series. It combines 2D and 3D cartoon styles as well as surrealism. It’s utterly hideous to lay your eyes upon. Images of pustule-faced people and horrific surgical scenes will leave your stomach churning.

Scenes are usually dark and eerie and follow weird storylines where Flapjack is greeted with menacing characters. Gross musical notes add even more depth to its already disturbing visuals. Rotting food, dead animal carcasses, and diseased humans pretty much sums up the series.

Young adults and teens are drawn into its putrid aspects. It’s like watching a dead body being operated on (which happens in a few episodes) you can’t help but watch.

6. The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy

Cartoon Network continues to dish out spooky and sinister cartoon series. Here we meet Billy and Mandy who gain control over the Grim Reaper. Its bubbly, colorful characters don’t take away from its underlying creep factor.

Demons, possession, and supernatural situations will have parents questioning the show. The trio is a strange combination of personalities. Its comical aspect is wonderfully dumb and witty.

Grim is a lovable nightmare who attracts demonic encounters sending Billy and Mandy on peculiar quests that involve visiting the underworld and destroying vicious beasts. The comedy is brutally honest and rude.

Characters display bothersome facial manners and downright ugly features. At the end of episodes you’ll feel a weird sense of pleasure and indigestion.

5. Courage The Cowardly Dog

https://youtu.be/3OhqzX_m6BE

Surprise, surprise. Courage the Cowardly Dog left its dark mark on young viewers. Courage lives in a farmhouse with his owners Muriel and Eustace. Each episode offers bizarre and paranormal adventures.

Everyone who has watched Courage carries a piece of the show in their hearts. Although, not in a rainbow and sunshine sort of way. The series is famous for its highly unnerving and eerie visuals. Basic 2D animation is sprinkled with scenes of surreal 3D images and characters that pop up unexpectedly.

Snippets of life-like mutated alien creatures will have your heart racing for a moment. Extreme dark humor and scenarios do not give mercy to Courage and his family. Visitations from spirits and demons threaten to kill the farmhouse folks.

It’s not for those who are easily frightened or grossed out. It’s a disturbing fantasy for thrill seekers and horror fanatics. With its animation switching from clay to surrealism and back to its original form, it’s bound to eventually terrorize your dreams.

4. Making Fiends

https://youtu.be/0lbf0805rQM

Weird, man. Just plain weird. Making Fiends aired on Nicktoons Network from October 2008- November 2008. Gloomy town, Clamburg is home to opposite natures Vendetta and Charlotte. Attempts by Vendetta to murder Charlotte always result in failure due to dumb luck.

It’s super simply designed and straightforward. The characters look like they were hand drawn by 5 years and scribbled in carelessly. Perhaps that’s what makes it so visually creepy and strange.

Vendetta's evil plots to horrendously assassinate Charlotte are covered up smoothly by its idiotic and ditzy characters. The setting is bland, dark, and drab compared to its vibrant, glowing people. It’s naturally perturbing without even really trying.

It’s not as gruesome as its competing horror based cartoons, but it has a purgative feel about it making you feel trapped inside the town. Just the mere concept of Vendetta conjuring up sick ideas to kill Charlotte is enough to leave viewers feeling hollow.

3. Angela Anaconda

https://youtu.be/7GK0xZAoheQ

How this series made it from the twisted head of an individual to T.V screens is beyond me. We have to give recognition that representation of animation wasn’t as cinematically appealing as it is now. The series enters the twisted mind of Angela as she creates disturbing dream sequences, imagining ways to rid her enemies.

The visuals alone are terrifying. Utilizing sketches of humans faces and slapping it on a cartoon body is gloriously haunting. Angela appears to be a girl, but tunes a high pitch boy voice when she speaks which is confusingly weird. The human stick-like figures all have gray skin with splashes of color amongst their clothes and hair.

The story is pretty normal as far as normal goes until Angela’s imagination takes charge. The true darkness of the show are the parts where she has disturbing fantasies about hurting and torturing her classmates.

Overall, the series was a decent hit for children and even some adults. The imaginative and visual techniques steer away from its gloomy and alarming plot line.

2. Robot Chicken

https://youtu.be/l_yOeJp6BuE

It’s 3am and you wake up dead out of a dream to find a teenage mutant ninja turtle seducing the pizza guy. Adult Swim is home to this stop motion-animated comedy series. The show jabs at movies, toys, games, trending fads, and famous actors. It is the most vain television series I’ve ever witnessed.

Easily it makes its way to the top of the list as the strangest and creepiest cartoon. Barbie-like dolls take the form of the characters making for one freaky roller coaster of a watch. It satisfies people’s sick and twisted pleasures with violence, risqué references, and vulgar comedy.

You can finally say you’ve seen and heard it all once you witness Mickey Mouse at a pub cursing at Donald Duck. The series ventures into movies and tv shows chewing them up, then spitting them out in a whole new realm.

Robot Chicken destroys political situations by using raw humor to reveal reality. Of course, it’s all done on the basis of entertainment, so no hard feelings. Either way the program will have the audience laughing tears of joy, shock, and disgust.

1. MAD

https://youtu.be/7pqzwBciv1Y

Much like Robot Chicken, MAD shoots garbage at popular shows, actors, and current pop culture. The animation combines cartoon design of both 2D and 3D. It’s hilarious to see famous actors' heads copied and pasted on cartoon bodies.

It switches from scene to scene making the next snippet totally unpredictable. The crude and unsettling humor style stays true to Adult Swim. As much as we hate to admit, there’s something pleasing about watching gruesome death scenes and savage attacks on famous performers.

MAD is a mixture between a nightmare and a failed circus act. It’s spontaneous, ruthless, and painted with exciting segments. The series short clips range from a few seconds to a few minutes keeping it chaotically captivating.

Careful, it may ruin your favorite classic films and cast members by demoralizing and demonizing them. Nonetheless, it rises to number one in the world of strange and uneasy cartoon series.
