Be true to who you are and what you love. Always be yourself. Unless you can be a Cartoon Network character, then always be a Cartoon Network character. There are some pretty spectacular icons in the world of animation. Let’s get pixelated and hop into the role of some of the best characters created.
15. Clarence (Clarence)
Clarence pulls you into his chaotic fantasies whether you like it or not. He turns the most mundane circumstance into a wild adventure. His only worry in the world is to make the day as fun as he possibly can.
Sumo and Jeff hop along Clarence's crazy train on the way to adventure. Jeff is very sensible and cautious while Sumo is wild and hectic. Clarence means well, but often meddles in his family and friends' life stirring up trouble.
Everyone is transported back to their childhood with the help of this extroverted 10-year-old boy. Clarence makes us remember what it was like to be a kid when there was no limit to imagination. The show taps us into that goofy and quirky mindset we all cherish so much.
14. Courage (Courage the Cowardly Dog)
In the farmhouse in Nowhere, the family encounters extremely bizarre entities. Courage must tighten his collar and defend his owners from the terrifying villains. The cowardly pup adores Muriel who is often the one caught in the center of the chaos.
Through Courage’s eyes, horrific monsters and spirits visit the farmhouse often asking for help. It’s cool because we get a sense of what it likes to see from a dog's perspective. We wonder why our dogs bark incessantly at the mailman or at simple noises- they see things different than us.
Courage is rather terrifying when it comes to its villain characters. Some of them display different types and styles of animation which make for quite an odd visual effect. After watching an episode I usually run to my dog and hold him tight despite being highly irritated by his non stop barking at the wind.
13. Captain K’nuckles (The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack)
K’nuckles was rescued by Flapjack and his whale Bubbies long ago. The Captain claims to be a successful adventurer, winning numerous battles out at sea. He exaggerates his past experiences making him look mightier than he is.
His only desire is to obtain as much candy as he can, often putting others at risk for his own selfish needs. Crusty pirate K’nuckles has earned a bad rep for himself turning the people of Stormalong against him. Too many times he exploits Flapjack for his egotistical desires, but secretly loves the little rascal and will help him if needed.
We all have an inner Captain K’nuckles that needs to be set free every now and then. Flapjack is like the 5-year-old kid in a candy store while K’nuckles is the 80-year-old war veteran who has battled in too many wars. Sure he’s greedy, undesirable, and worn out, but underneath all the stink lies a sweet old man.
12. Starfire (Teen Titans Go!)
She hopes to maintain peace and balance and will attempt to do so in a calm manner. Perhaps one of the most warm-hearted heroes, Starfire deeply cares for her fellow teammates. If need be, she will use her awesome powers to inflict destruction upon enemies.
The girl has some serious heat stored up inside her. With abilities such as flight, strength, speed, and durability, the little angel can turn into a demon in the blink of an eye. Sometimes she’s a bit ditzy and overlooks enemies' true colors, but her instincts kick in the moment someone messes with her and her friends.
Starfire is the perfect “girl power” role model. She’s dazzling, colorful, and super upbeat, but also will snap a neck when the time calls for it. Her hometown lies on a distant planet so she struggles to fit in with the “norms'' of Earth's society.
One of my favorite things about Starfire is her bizarre and proper way of speaking. It’s so cute how she often mispronounces things and puts the word “the” in front of most nouns. She’s a great example of how girls can be elegant and beautiful while also being strong and smart. You go girl!
11. Darwin (The Amazing World of Gumball)
Darwin is a very special little dude. He used to be Gumball's pet, but now is his best friend and partner in crime. He’s super loyal to the Wattersons and eager to help anyone who is in trouble.
He really just wants everyone to be happy. In episodes he’s usually the one to diffuse tension and settle disputes. This little orange guy puts others' needs above his own without giving it a second thought. He’s definitely more level-headed than Gumball which makes the two a perfect match.
Looking at his character overall, he’s sort of like a pet dog. Dogs are loyal, happy, and always there to cheer everyone up. Darwin’s always got a nice big smile on his face and looks at the bright side of every situation. Next time you forget to feed your fish, just remember it’s possible it will grow some legs and walk to the pantry itself.
10. Flapjack (The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack)
More sweet than salty, Flapjack is bursting with enthusiasm and excitement. He’s pretty oblivious to any sort of danger which lands him in the center of turmoil. Nonetheless, his air headed characteristics usually lead him to great things.
Naive little Flapjack has immense respect for Captain K’nuckles. The two spend their days searching for Candied Island as well as any candy they can find in their village of Stormalong. Just like any kid, he thrives off of adventure and imagination.
Flapjack's lack of intelligence is hilarious. Anyone who doesn’t find farts and bodily noises funny just isn’t right in the head. He’s immature, open-minded, and free spirited. Chaos is attracted to him, but isn’t that what makes life interesting and fun?
9. Bloo and Mac (Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends)
Forget real people, Bloo proves to be the ultimate best friend. Mac is super loyal to Bloo, making sure he visits him everyday at Fosters. If he does not, Bloo will be put up for adoption and he will never see him again, ultimately forgetting him forever.
Bloo is pretty self-absorbed and big into his ego. He majorly lacks empathy for others and does this for his own selfish needs. The blue blob finds great pleasure in bending the rules and mixing himself up into trouble.
Mac is usually the one who has to fix the messes Bloo has made. There’s a few times he and Bloo get into fights leaving Mac to wonder if he should continue visiting Bloo. At the end of the day, Mac's love for Bloo shines through and they always make up.
The duo honestly is a bit frustrating to watch. Bloo isn’t really the type of imaginary friend I would want, but he sure is lively and fun. Mac has a rotten older brother and doesn’t have many friends, so Bloo is his only pal in the world. Despite their differences the two make a great and lovable team.
8. Greg (Over the Garden Wall)
Greg is the youngest brother of him and Wirt. He seems to be completely out of touch with reality, often living in his own world of fantasy. When he and his brother face an issue, Gregory is always the one to point out the positive side of things.
Despite the two getting lost in the woods and being hunted by the Beast, his childish wonder keeps the gang moving forward. Wirt is quick to accept defeat and displays lots of self doubt and confidence. Whereas Greg has enough optimism to power the universe.
Perhaps because Greg is so young, he’s unaware of the severity of the brothers' situation. He’s just such a fun and bright character who reminds us not to take life seriously- like at all. Apparently any problem can be solved with a positive outlook and silliness. Greg can quite easily be the symbol for innocence and youth.
7. Rigby (Regular Show)
Rigby is pretty much a big man child. He’s always looking for ways to get out of working and trying to find the easy route. Impulsivity, arrogance, and immaturity sum up his character traits. Mordecai is his best friend and coworker and usually has to resolve the chaos Rigby creates.
Whenever Benson orders the two a new task, Rigby quickly becomes defiant and searches for ways to get out of it. All he wants is to play video games, eat junk food, and lounge around until the sun sets. Unfortunately, his actions always have big consequences which result in strange things happening to the two.
Rigbys awesome no matter how much of a big, lazy baby he proves to be. Quickly he snaps to the aid of others when all hell breaks loose and truly loves his bud Mordecai. He truly is a big child as he throws temper tantrums when things don’t go his way.
Even grown adults have their moments of weakness. His spirit for adventure and (fun) challenges make up for his lack of work ethic. Mordecai always has his back, so the vibrant raccoon is free to do as he pleases. Must be nice.
6. Beast Boy (Teen Titans Go!)
Beast boy is the child of the gang. While immature at times, his trickster persona has been put to good use when fighting villains. Cyborg and Beast Boy are unstoppable in the name of laziness when combined. During a crisis, the two often lounge on the couch refusing to engage in battle.
Alongside his “chill” personality, he lazily slaps sentences together using words like bruh, mama, and bro. All in all, there are some signs of intelligence whirling around in his noggin. When his friends are in extreme danger, he jumps on the gun and puts on his superhero pants. Also, his friendship with Cyborg is the most important thing to him as he’ll do anything to make up for his wrongdoings.
Beast Boy is a radical dude regardless of how childish he can be. He’s just a super fun and exciting character with his green toned skin and crazy animal morphing skills. Relaxation, rest, and eating are the only three qualities you need in order to click with Beast Boy.
5. Shaggy Rogers (Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated)
Shaggy is a pretty cool guy when it comes to his relaxed personality. Although, I’m not sure he’s the best match in facing monsters and ghosts. He and his pal Scooby almost always get themselves in a pickle and have to be saved.
Let’s give him some credit here. Shaggy is usually used as “bait” for distracting the villains so the other members can perform their plan of capture. At first he’s always hesitant about his role in the plan, but that’s nothing a Scooby Snack won’t fix!
We all know why Shaggy is so hungry all the time. Let’s not pretend we don’t. Adults easily get the gist of Shaggy's hippie vibe and paranoid attitude. Plus, the dude can down a three foot long loaded sandwich. Eventually, he comes around and does what he has to do to help the gang solve the mystery. Right on, man!
4. Chowder (Chowder)
Chowder has a knack for attracting antics and problems of all sorts. He lives with Mung and his wife Truffles inside their restaurant catering business. He’s quite ambitious to become a good chef, but his big appetite and empty head create a myriad of issues for old man Mung.
We all love food, but Chowder is IN LOVE with food. He eats everything in sight disregarding his boss’s orders to leave meals and treats alone. Chowder is notorious for ruining Mungs dishes and inhaling cuisines made for important customers and events.
Hey, the kids gotta eat right? The whole premise of the show is lively and unique with its delicious looking meals and colorful pattern schemes. Chowder lacks brain cells which lead him to do things he knows he should not.
You remember what it’s like to be a 6 year old kid being told not to eat the warm chocolate chip cookies. Naturally, you’re going to give in and eat the dang cookies. He’s one crazy kid whose stomach is as big as his heart. He tries his best to fix his messes and resolve the dilemmas he’s created in his hunger-induced rampages.
3. Scooby-Doo (Scooby-Doo Mystery Incorporated)
We’ve heard of scaredy-cat, but only one pup earns the title of scaredy-dog. Scooby is much like Shaggy only in animal form. As the gang is called to solve mysteries in their town, Scoob is put to the ultimate test of bravery. He and Shaggy are usually used as targets to lure the monsters in.
“Ro way,” is his go-to response when the gang proposes the plan to capture the monster. Scooby Snacks must have some sort of magical ingredient in them. Right away Mr. Doo gobbles up the treat and is ready to trap any enemy who comes his way.
Scooby-Doo is one of those classic, feel-good T.V. series. It’s insane to think that to this day they’re still remaking the show and producing new movies. Scooby is so lovable and loyal to his gang, much like our own dog's devotion towards us. As long as he gets his snack, he will do anything you tell him to.
2. Finn the Human (Adventure Time)
Finn is a human boy living in a world filled with amazing talking creatures. He’s vowed to help anyone who needs his help no matter how big or small the issue is. You know an incredible mission is about to go down when he and Jake fist bump and scream “Adventure Time!”
Apart from being a ridiculously good fighter, Finn is incredibly sensitive and caring. He truly loves all of his friends and puts himself in deadly situations to assist others. Princess Bubblegum holds a special place in his heart and he would do anything for her.
After watching Adventure Time, you’ll be so inspired by Finn's determination you’ll probably be thrashing a sword around searching for battles. Finn is a hardcore little dude. He’s funny and couldn’t give two cares about what anyone thinks of him.
He lets his weirdness shine through and says whatever the heck comes to his mind. It’s awesome for kids to have him as a role model. Finn the Human leaves a big impact on everyone by teaching us to be yourself and work hard. What a guy.
1. Jake the Dog (Adventure Time)
Jake is Finn's right hand man during quests. Without him, most of Finn's battles would have been ten times more difficult and 100% more boring. His ability to mold his body into pretty much any shape or size allows him to squeeze into small places and protect him and Finn from huge enemies.
One thing this dog is not deficient in is vitamin laughter. Jake plays as the comical relief and always finds a way to squeeze a sly joke in even the most serious of situations. Jake's loyalty to his human friend will always reign over everything else. At times he can seem a bit ditzy, but he always has a useful plan that pulls through in the end.
There’s no other way to put it, Jake is downright radical. Every now and then he lets out little toots whenever he’s startled, anxious, or wants to have a little giggle. He’s one funny magical pup- plain and simple. Jake is also skilled in the love area as he and his girl Lady Rainicorn end up having a litter of babies later on.
It’s easy to see why Jake could easily be crowned the King of Cartoon Network. Whether he’s breaking out in song, dueling fearsome creatures, or providing comfort to troubled Candy residents- he’s an all around far-out dude. Let’s also not forget his famous recipe for tasty bacon pancakes.
