[Top 10] Valheim Best Endgame Weapons (And How to Get Them)

We're in the endgame now.

As you run across all the places and bosses in Valheim, your weapons also increase in terms of power and usability, making use of most, if not all the utility it gives towards you and your goal of getting all the heads of your vanquished foes. With that in mind, you’ll most likely have everything unlocked and ready to make at any time, which is especially important when finishing off the games’ current final boss, Yagluth. Given he is the biggest and worst foe in the game and currently resides in the most dangerous biome to cross, the Plains, you’ll most likely want to know what is the best weapon for the end boss, which we’ll learn in this list.

As with all Valheim lists, this was written at the time of the games’ latest version (version 0.205.5) and is based on the overall usability and importance of the weapon.

Let’s start at the end (of the game).

10. Iron Sledge

We start the list with a literal carryover weapon from the Iron family, the Iron Sledge.

What’s Good About the Iron Sledge?

This hammer is the best displacing mallet in the game, albeit at a very close range at that. While that may not sound impressive, it does offer up some good effects, like the ones below.

Iron Sledge:

  • Strong AoE damage to chunk out an enemy’s health
  • High possibility for stagger effect to apply to enemies
  • When upgraded, it’s strong enough to be used on the toughest enemies in the Plains

The keyword in this is ‘when upgraded’, as the weapon may be strong on the Swamps, but man, it’s an expensive resource towards the creatures of the Plains. It's bulky and takes a lot of stamina to use and that doesn’t translate the heft into sizeable damage, and while it still does damage, by leaving yourself vulnerable against the toughest of mobs, you may as well turn the hammer upside-down and think of it as an anchor. I do still think this has a place in the end-game, but a niche one at that, being a mob displacer from your team’s main foes, so this one is for those mob herders (or absolute mad lads).

How to Get the Iron Sledge?

To get the Iron Sledge, prepare to do the complex task of making it by doing the things below.

Iron Sledge:

  • Get Iron
  • Get Ancient Bark from chopping down Ancient Trees
  • Buy the Ymir Flesh from the trader
  • Kill a Draugr Elite to get its trophy
  • Combine in the Forge

For a detailed look at the weapons stats, you may look at the table or use the key points below.

Iron Sledge:

  • Damage Profile: Blunt
  • Base Damage: 55
  • Full Upgraded Damage: 73
  • Minimum Crafting Area: Forge (Level 2)

9. Blackmetal Axe

As with the recurring theme with these end-game weapons, the Blackmetal Axe is the first of many Blackmetal weapons to be mentioned.

What’s Good About the Blackmetal Axe?

Arguably the weakest of the bunch, this tool-turned makeshift weapon is good for smaller mobs, but at times of hardships (or broken primary weapons), this will make do as a weapon for the end-game with benefits listed below.

Blackmetal Axe:

  • Fastest clearing axe for trees
  • Best durability among all single-handed axes
  • Damage is decent for what it is

Valheim defines this more as a tool for cutting wood down, so it’s not meant to be used for combat a lot, which is reflective of its durability compared to its combat-focused counterparts. Beyond that, it is still a nice surprise tool that can help in tricky situations, or that occasional Deathsquito slice up, and what’s even better is that this is most likely going to be in your inventory at this point, which comes in handy for any time.

How to Get the Blackmetal Axe?

To obtain the Blackmetal Axe, chop down your tasks to make room for the following:

  • Get Blackmetal from killing Fulings or searching chests in their camps
  • Get Fine Wood from Birch or Oak Trees
  • Process Flax to a Spinning Wheel to create Linen Thread
  • Combine in the Forge

For a detailed look at the weapons stats, you may look at the table or use the key points below.

Blackmetal Axe:

  • Damage Profile: Slash
  • Base Damage: 100
  • Full Upgraded Damage: 115
  • Minimum Crafting Area: Forge (Level 4)

8. Fang Spear

One of the longer weapons on our list, the Fang Spear is a safe alternative to polearms that can dish out some decent damage.

What’s Good About the Fang Spear?

Offering safety by its range is a good start point for the usability of the weapon, which also brings in its usual benefits like.

Fang Spear:

  • Best spear to craft
  • Long-range can hit enemies at better range
  • Relatively low stamina reduction per attack

It’s again the best spear in the game and while that may sound good on paper, it’s a bit of a niche use case, which we’ll get to later. Having one around to use as your main weapon in itself a rare, but understandably possible case, just know that you have your timings right when attacking, let alone throwing it to enemies like the Fuling. The biggest drawback this weapon has in my opinion is that other weapons are just more durable and reliable. Not saying that the Fang Spear is bad, but given its nuances, you’re better off with more reliable weapons listed later. For this list still, it’s a safe alternative and something different should you roam the Plains and its enemies, as long as they don’t come in swarms.

How to Get the Fang Spear?

The Fang Spear requires the following to make:

  • Kill Wolf for Wolf Fang
  • Get Ancient Bark from cutting Ancient Trees
  • Get Silver from the Mountains
  • Get Leather Scraps from killing Boars

For a detailed look at the weapons stats, you may look at the table or use the key points below.

Fang Spear:

  • Damage Profile: Pierce
  • Base Damage: 70
  • Full Upgraded Damage: 93
  • Minimum Crafting Area: Forge (Level 3)

7. Blackmetal Knife

The best backstab weapon is the smallest, introducing the Blackmetal Knife.

What is Good About the Blackmetal Knife?

It’s an unassuming weapon, as you’ll be seeing numbers that would seem too high for a blade this small. Getting back to the knife, the best knife in the game has these to offer.

Blackmetal Knife:

  • Potential to one-shot many kinds mobs
  • The 10x scaling with its base damage can out-damage certain weapons
  • Damage differences are larger when fully leveled

The Blackmetal Knife will be your likely weapon to open up against beasts like the Lox… and that’s about it. This weapon, while a good one still, isn’t exactly optimal against foes that easily roam around and spot you like the Fuling. The biggest reason why the Lox is the optimal use case is that its backstab bonus can weaken its health bar by a good margin to takedown eventually. Apart from that, using it as a primary weapon without the backstab bonus is a weak trade which, like the Fang Spear before it, is much better being subsided unless you know what you are doing.

How to Get the Blackmetal Knife?

The smaller ones still drop the needed ore, but this larger one, can outright kill you.

This unassuming weapon only requires the following steps:

Blackmetal Knife:

  • Get Blackmetal from killing Fulings or searching chests in their camps
  • Get Fine Wood from Birch or Oak Trees
  • Process Flax to a Spinning Wheel to create Linen Thread
  • Combine in the Forge

For a detailed look at the weapons stats, you may look at the table or use the key points below.

Blackmetal Knife:

  • Damage Profile: Slash / Pierce
  • Base Damage: 36
  • Full Upgraded Damage: 42
  • Minimum Crafting Area: Forge (Level 4)

6. Blackmetal Atgeir

This is where we start getting towards meaningful, impactful weapons like the one here, the Blackmetal Atgeir

What is Good About the Blackmetal Atgeir?

With a fast combo attack and a powerful secondary attack, this is an amazing weapon towards varying enemies you’ll find in the Plains. Below are the things that make it so great.

Blackmetal Atgeir:

  • Best polearm in the game
  • The alternate attack does huge pierce damage on a targeted enemy
  • Is made of blackmetal, and allows for high stats in general.

What sets this apart from all the ones above is that this is more likely a weapon someone would use as a primary and not an optional one. It’s got good stats, durability, and safety all rolled into one, and that can help you out when doing raids or in an area with multiple enemies. This weapon is pretty versatile for those wanting safety against a Fuling and would want it as it’s also good for the other Plains mobs like the Lox. With that in mind, this trusty long poke stick in up here with the best weapons for this phase of the game.

How to Get the Blackmetal Atgeir?

A lot more metal on this atgeir, just make the point of killing clearer.

A modest amount of things are needed compared to the others on the list, but still a lot as you’ll need the following:

Blackmetal Atgeir:

  • Get Blackmetal from killing Fulings or searching chests in their camps
  • Get Fine Wood from Birch or Oak Trees
  • Process Flax to a Spinning Wheel to create Linen Thread
  • Combine in the Forge

For a detailed look at the weapons stats, you may look at the table or use the key points below.

Blackmetal Atgeir:

  • Damage Profile: Pierce
  • Base Damage: 105
  • Full Upgraded Damage: 123
  • Minimum Crafting Area: Forge (Level 4)

5. Crystal Battleaxe

A new entry and a new weapon class for the game from the Hearth and Home Update that brings a stylish level of hurt into the mix.

What’s Good About the Crystal Battleaxe?

A stunning weapon that oddly enough is more futuristic than ancient in terms of looks, but that doesn’t stop it from being its typical barbaric, brutish nature of a weapon, which does things like the following.

Crystal Battleaxe:

  • The only weapon to currently use Crystals
  • Great slash damage for a two-handed weapon
  • Gives two damage types instead of one, thanks to Silver’s spirit damage

Crystal used to be entirely useless, but with the early access nature of Valheim, it soon became one of the best axes you can craft offering not only the typical slash damage from the weapon type but also spirit damage, which is highly useful when facing off against the undead final boss, Yagluth. It’s not perfect though as the challenge of getting and making this weapon is also a tough one at that as Crystal is usually found in the Mountains, which in itself houses its fair share of danger from drakes to wolves, and, for gathering Crystals, the Stone Golem.

Stone Golems hurt you a lot when you aren’t careful, and ironically enough the best way to gather them is not to use conventional weapons to time attacks, but rather wear it down utilizing a Pickaxe, and yes, that’s a tall order. Once you do manage to get through all that, making and using the weapon will show how good it is, and that sentence is pretty crystal clear.

How to Get the Crystal Battleaxe?

A unique weapon has unique steps to make it, which includes the following:

Crystal Battleaxe:

  • Get Ancient Bark from cutting Ancient Trees
  • Get Silver from the Mountains
  • Get Crystal from killing Stone Golems
  • Combine in the Forge

For a detailed look at the weapons stats, you may look at the table or use the key points below.

Crystal Battleaxe:

  • Damage Profile: Slash / *Spirit
  • Base Damage: 90 / *30
  • Full Upgraded Damage: 108 / *30
  • Minimum Crafting Area: Forge (Level 3)

*applied when applicable

4. Blackmetal Sword

As always with weapon choices, conventional weapons work, and the Blackmetal Sword is one of, if not the obvious endgame weapons to craft.

What’s Good About the Blackmetal Axe?

This is nothing short of a great weapon, with the benefits being as simple as the ones listed below.

Blackmetal Sword:

  • Very reliable weapon through any biome
  • Great damage output with the alternate attack
  • A very durable weapon that can last a good while

Its simple three-click combo for its primary attack and powerful charge attack via the middle click makes this a very powerful weapon for even a swarm of enemies in the Plains. This is useful for camp raids, where the combos can hit a whole load of enemies quickly, allowing you to kite back to retreat or regen to kill more people. A drawback that the Blackmetal Sword has is that it isn’t effective towards all enemies as some enemies are resistant to slash damage, which is just a fault towards the weapon type, and not the weapon itself, meaning, that Blackmetal Sword will still cut through a Lox, but not as good as the weapons intended for it. Either way, do you want to hack your way towards the Plains and the endgame? The Blackmetal Sword is perfect for you.

How to Get the Blackmetal Sword?

This weapon doesn’t slash hours away from your time by getting it, as you’ll need to get the following:

Blackmetal Sword:

  • Get Blackmetal from killing Fulings or searching chests in their camps
  • Get Fine Wood from Birch or Oak Trees
  • Process Flax to a Spinning Wheel to create Linen Thread
  • Combine in the Forge

For a detailed look at the weapons stats, you may look at the table or use the key points below.

Blackmetal Sword:

  • Damage Profile: Slash
  • Base Damage: 95
  • Full Upgraded Damage: 113
  • Minimum Crafting Area: Forge (Level 4)

3. Frostner

Upping the complexity and usage for your endgame, the Frostner offers an unparalleled level of utility that helps you survive towards the end.

What’s Good About the Frostner?

Its flexible damage profile is split between three types, which in itself makes an endgame viable weapon, however, keep in mind that one of the effects is on a very specific circumstance specifically, it’s good for the following.

Frostner:

  • Triple damage profile with both blunt, frost, and spirit damage
  • A varied effective rate against many types of enemies
  • Highest knockback amount of any one-handed club in the game

While on paper, the 3 effects make it a force to be reckoned with against all enemies, but in reality, the spirit damage really only applies to undead mobs, and as for the majority of enemies, you’ll only get the benefit of 2 effects, frost, and blunt damage. It’s still a good combo, don’t get me wrong, but it would be nice to have all 3 any day, but that would make it too overpowered. For the endgame, the spirit damage does make itself known as Yagluth is an undead enemy, hence making all 3 damage types something to pummel him to paste with. Pick up this hammer when you can have the time to gather materials, and you’ll be one step towards Thor’s level in no time.

How to Get the Frostner?

If you can gather and buy its components, then yes, you are worthy.

On the subject of gathering materials, it’s a chore to get all the items listed, but when you do, you’ll get to enjoy it for sure. Below are the tasks needed to show you’re worthy.

Frostner:

  • Get Ancient Bark from cutting Ancient Trees
  • Get Silver from the Mountains
  • Purchase Ymir’s Flesh from Haldor (the Trader)
  • Kill Drakes to get Freeze Glands
  • Combine in the Forge

For a detailed look at the weapons' stats, you may look at the table or use the key points below.

Frostner:

  • Damage Profile: Blunt / Frost / *Spirit
  • Base Damage: 35 / 40 / *20
  • Full Upgraded Damage: 35 / 58 / *20
  • Minimum Crafting Area: Forge (Level 3)

*only applies to certain enemies

2. Porcupine

Valheim’s best weapon, the Porcupine, will for sure do a lot for you in overall usability, perfect for the endgame.

What’s Good About the Porcupine?

It’s got hybrid damage profiles similar to the Frostner, though limited to 2 of them, unlike the Frostner, it gets its secondary stats from the piercing attribute. To put that into context, we must look at what it’s good at, which is listed below:

Porcupine:

  • Highest overall damage profile from all the clubs
  • A suitable weapon to many enemies, even the highest-level ones
  • Its combination of blunt and piercing make many enemies with no resistances easy to burst

It’s a weapon wherein if the strong piercing stat doesn’t kill the enemies, the blunt damage will, and vice-versa. Having this flexibility and the game having enemies that is not resistant to one damage stat to another, combined with the general nature of these high tier weapons makes this spiky club of pain an absolute beast at killing, well, beasts. Line them up, and batter up, that’s what this weapon does, and does it so well. This makes this weapon such a champ for the endgame as no enemy is safe from both the damage profiles listed, meaning this is one you should equip for the end.

How to Get the Porcupine?

This only glow-up your enemies will see before their demise is this.

For a high-grade weapon, the Porcupine has a pretty modest construction to it, in terms of its materials, namely the following items:

Porcupine:

  • Get Iron from the Swamps
  • Get Fine Wood from Birch or Oak Trees
  • Kill Deathsquitos for Needles
  • Process Flax to a Spinning Wheel to create Linen Thread
  • Combine in the Forge

For a detailed look at the weapons stats, you may look at the table or use the key points below.

Porcupine:

  • Damage Profile: Blunt / Piercing
  • Base Damage: 50 / 45
  • Full Upgraded Damage: 50 / 63
  • Minimum Crafting Area: Forge (Level 4)

1. Draugr Fang

This comes as no surprise to those who’ve played Valheim, but for those who plan to start, the Draugr Fang is an absolute must for the endgame for very simple reasons.

What’s Good About the Draugr Fang?

In the Plains or any combat situation in general, you’d want to have an advantage before taking the enemies head-on, and with the long-range of the Draugr Fang, it easily achieves that by applying a damage bonus for any unsuspecting target. Below are just some of the things you’ll benefit from such a necessary piece in your inventory.

Draugr Fang:

  • Damages foes from far away
  • Has a natural poison tick when hitting enemies with it
  • Grants safety in trimming down camps or singling out an enemy to take on close combat
  • Used in tandem with other damaging weapons

With this you can choose your fight, wherein you either outright kill a bunch of enemies far away, or lure out one enemy specifically so you can bring it towards you to fight with your target at close range, both having the benefit of it being hit low to start up the fight with. I don’t see how an average player can be safe in the Plains without the Draugr Fang or a bow in general, as that long-range snipe can be the difference between killing an enemy or two and taking on a whole wave of strong foes all at once. Prep enough arrows of your choosing and you’ll be taking on anti-danger duties all day long, and with the endgame on the horizon, this is the best endgame weapon companion you should have in your inventory.

How to Get the Draugr Fang?

For a high-grade weapon, the Porcupine has a pretty modest construction to it, in terms of its materials, namely the following items:

Draugr Fang:

  • Get Ancient Bark from cutting Ancient Trees
  • Get Silver from the Mountains
  • Kill Deer to get Deer Hide
  • Get Fine Wood from Birch or Oak Trees
  • Combine in the Forge

For a detailed look at the weapons stats, you may look at the table or use the key points below.

Draugr Fang:

  • Damage Profile: Piercing / Poison
  • Base Damage: 47 / 5
  • Full Upgraded Damage: 56 / 20
  • Minimum Crafting Area: Forge (Level 2)
