The Witcher 3: Best Endings - [Best And Worst Endings Revealed]

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, best endings, worst endings

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a dance of death and ethics. From the beginning to the end of the game, a player needs to be fully cognizant of the fact that every dialogue and action decision they make will determine their ending in the game. And with all the blood, sweat, and tears you put into playing the game, you deserve to be rewarded with the best ending possible.

3. Ciri Dies (Worst Ending)

Here's how to get this ending: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1r08I_h1TBE&t=756s

This is undoubtedly the worst ending in The Witcher 3 for obvious reasons: Ciri perishes in her battle with the White Frost, and Geralt’s fate is unknown. This is brought on by Ciri’s own self-doubt inflicted by what Geralt says to her during each quest before her battle with the White Frost.

In the aftermath of Ciri’s death, a devastated Geralt hunts down and kills the lone Crone that survived her fight with Ciri and retrieves Ciri’s Witcher medallion. Alone and with his spirits depleted, Geralt puts his head in his hands as various monsters close in on him, the screen going black, leaving players oblivious to Geralt’s fate.

I can’t help but think that the only way a player finishes with this ending is out of pure intention. To me, it’s obvious which decisions will result in a negative conclusion, but due to the complex weaving of quests, perhaps a negative decision seems better than the others in the heat of the moment. It’s a tragedy, this ending. Geralt’s daughter is dead, he’s lost Yennefer, and he is most likely killed by the monsters at the end.

Here’s how to get this ending:

The player will get this ending if they choose at least three out of five of these dialogue decisions during the quests.

  • "Relax, you don't have to be good at everything." - Blood on the Battlefield.
  • Choose to visit the Emperor. "Definitely need it more than you." - Blood on the Battlefield.
  • Go with Ciri to meet the Lodge of Sorceresses during Final Preparations.
  • "Calm down." - The Child of the Elder Blood.
  • "No time." - The Child of the Elder Blood.

2. Ciri Becomes Empress (Good Ending)

Here's how to get this ending: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqYj52aQR80

Ciri defeats the White Frost and she becomes Empress. How badass can this woman get? After her epic win against the White Frost, Ciri is now fully equipped with the skills and the confidence to become Empress.

Ciri and Geralt enjoy a playful father-daughter moment together in the snowy woods where Geralt gives a delighted Ciri a piggy back ride when she jumps on his back. The duo chuckle and tumble into the snow, a lighthearted moment that truly tugs at the heartstrings.

When it’s time for them to part ways, Ciri regrettably explains to Geralt that in order to make a true change in the world, she must stop fleeing and become Empress. Geralt is understanding, assuring her that she’s a capable Witcher, and they have one last tender embrace.

No, I’m not crying, YOU’RE crying. For all the morbid and violent elements in The Witcher 3, this ending can be seen as healing. No one is dead, and while Geralt and Ciri must part ways in a bittersweet ending, they embark on new journeys, and they will see each other again one day.

Here’s how to get this ending:

The player will get this ending if they choose at least three out of five of these dialogue decisions during the quests.

  • "Gotta visit the Emperor first.” - Blood on the Battlefield.
  • "I know what might lift your spirits.” - Blood on the Battlefield.
  • Visit the Emperor. "Didn't do it for coin.” - Blood on the Battlefield
  • "Go for it.” - The Child of the Elder Blood.
  • "Yeah, I'll go with you." - The Child of the Elder Blood.

1. Ciri Becomes a Witcher (Best Ending)

Here's how to get this ending: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqYj52aQR80

Alone, Ciri enters the gateway to face her foe. You may find yourself choking back tears as Ciri ponders her impending doom and reminisces on tender flashbacks involving Geralt.

Back in Vizima, Geralt meets with Ciri’s father, Emhyr, and tells him that Ciri died, paying the ultimate price when fighting the White Frost. As a seemingly ambivalent Emhyr paces, Geralt explains that Ciri’s body may never be found. Emhyr dismisses Geralt by telling him he wishes to never see him again.

Geralt heads to the Inn At The Crossroads where an ominous hooded figure sits in the back. Geralt approaches, and a very alive, very unscathed Ciri turns to him with a curt “Is it done?” Geralt gives Ciri a Witcher sword, signifying her new identity as a Witcher.

This ending is widely known as the best ending out of the three major endings in The Witcher 3. Though, there are some that think Ciri becoming Empress is the best ending. I beg to differ. Ciri embarks on her journey as a Witcher with Geralt - how much better of an ending can you get? I believe that this is truly what Ciri wanted her life to be, and the fact that she gets to run wild and free alongside Geralt makes for the perfect ending.

How to get this ending:

The player will get this ending if they choose at least two out of four of these dialogue decisions during the quests.

  • Choose not to bring Ciri to the Emperor
  • "Velen, then.” - Blood on the Battlefield
  • "I know what might lift your spirits.” - Blood on the Battlefield.
  • "Go for it." - The Child of the Elder Blood.
  • "Yeah, I'll go with you." - The Child of the Elder Blood.
