Although tragic, the collapse of human civilization at the hands of a zombie infestation can create some great stories, here are the 10 best.

At the rate 2020 is going, by December the zombie apocalypse will come upon us. We might as well get ourselves mentally prepared for all the bloodshed, tough moral decisions, and the overall anguish we will experience. Well, for the ones that survive that is. Whether you decide to arm yourself and fight for survival or go crowd surfing in a group of zombies, we can all enjoy a few good zombie anime.

After Makina and her family meet their untimely demise, Makina comes back as a living corpse. In order to get into heaven, she must kill 108 other living corpses. She also sets out to get revenge on the perpetrator that murdered her.

Makina kills other living corpses with two MAC-11 machine pistols.

When a man massacres Ai’s village, she has no reason to stay home and decides to join him in his journey.

Sakura’s life abruptly ends when a truck hits her on the street. After waking up in a dark stormy night, Sakura realizes she has become a zombie. A show business producer finds her and explains that he brought her back from the dead to star in an idol group.

The producer also brought back other girls from different eras of Japanese history.

7. Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress

Giant walls protect the humans left on Hinomoto Island from the horrifying Kabane. This species of zombies have steel covered hearts that resist the blows of human weapons. The young engineer, Ikoma, creates a piercing gun that he believes will kill the Kabane, the first step in taking back their island.

Unlike the trope of the genre, if you get bitten by a Kabane there’s a small chance to resist the virus and become a hybrid called Kabaneri.

The stressed out high school student Rea, joins him but life’s pressures get to her. Rea drinks the potion thinking it will kill her but instead it will turn her into one of the undead.

Rea does not need flesh to survive. Since the concoction she drank included the hydrangea flower, she can instead eat the leaves of the plant.

Ghouls can disguise themselves like regular people but must sustain themselves by eating human flesh. Ken Kaneki survives a ghoul attack but during hospitalization, ghoul organs replaced his damaged ones. Now part ghoul, he must come accustomed to his new body.

Luckily for Ken Kaneki, ghouls that manage a coffee shop can teach him to deal with his new life.

Alucard serves the Hellsing organization after he was bested by the former leader, Van Helsing.
