Hell-o fell-ow CSGOers! We’re not fans if we haven’t wondered what settings the top percentile players, the masters of the crafts, play with. If you’ve passively done so, though, I’ve got you covered. Today, we look at eDPI and other such details of the players on the top rung of the CS:GO ladder.
Oh, wait. You’re a noobie and you don’t know what eDPI is? Alright, let me enlighten you. Have a seat. Let’s start with DPI.
DPI is dots per inch. It means how many times the mouse informs the computer about its movement through one physical inch. In other words, it is to the mouse what FPS is to the monitor (:
In-game sensitivity is, like Philip put it best, more like Mouse Movement Amplifier. You know what in-game sensitivity is.
eDPI = DPI * in-game sensitivity. That’s it. eDPI is Effective DPI and it accounts for in-game sensitivity while keeping the essence of DPI in it.
Now lemme explain an important concept. Keeping eDPI constant, you can try to understand various DPI and in-game sensitivity situations.
For example, increase your DPI to an overly huge number like 16000 and decrease your in-game sensitivity to an overly small number like 0.05. Your eDPI is now 800.
Play the game and you’ll see how smooth and beautiful the movements are.
Now decrease your DPI to an overly low number like 100 and increase your in-game sensitivity to an overly huge, 8. Your eDPI is still 800. It means that it will still take you the same amount of time and effort to move your crosshair from one point to another. BUT. But now check your movement. You’ll notice how… block-y, robotic, and “skip-py” your movement is. It’ll feel like you are playing on very low FPS, i.e., your crosshair “skips” pieces of blocks to reach where it has to reach.
This was an example to demonstrate what eDPI and its factors really mean and how they matter.
Now, as promised, let’s get into the countdown!
10. elec (eDPI: 880)
Denis Sharipov is a rifler for NaVi and a great one, at that. s1mple’s sidekick has played second fiddle for all his career but his numbers have remained strong and unignorable. With a 1.11 rating in 2021, the clutch-iest but the most inconsistent player on the NaVi roster crawls his way into this list.

9. Twistzz (eDPI: 800)
Russel Van Dulken is a Canadian rifler plying his trade at FaZe Clan currently. He famously played with Liquid and contested for the majors strongly for years. Individually, his numbers are gigantic. With his headshot percentage, he has forced his way into the history books, standing alongside the Scream and a few others for the heftiest numbers.
Despite FaZe Clan’s famous fall out of the top 20 (top 35, at that), Twistzz rating and individual performances remain high with a 1.13 rating in 2021.

8. dev1ce (eDPI: 800)
A legendary Danish named Nicolai Reetz spearheaded a team to historic glory. Astralis for all their strats could always look at the phenomenal AWPer in dev1ce for individual brilliance. His trophy cabinet remains literally unmatched by anyone in the whole Counter-Strike scene (except for Astralis players themselves).
He’s changed teams since then and moved on but in NIP, alongside a 1.14 rating in 2021, he’s upped the levels of all his teammates.

7. b1t (eDPI: 568)
Valerii Vakhovskyi is a rifler in NaVi who has risen through the NaVi ranks, impressing in NaVi Junior and then going on the replace flamie in the main roster. He is as close to greatness as his face is to his screen. He is touted as the next big thing in the CS:GO world and an heir to s1mple’s majestic throne. At only 18 years of age, his headshot percentage is off the charts, competing closely and frequently beating the likes of Twistzz and the famous headshot god, ScreaM, himself. Needless to say, he’s leading the Headshot Percentage charts for 2021.
Playing a crucial part in NaVi’s emphatic victory in his first-ever LAN in IEM Cologne, his presence and consistency (as opposed to the allu-level flamie) will be key going into the Major for NaVi.

6. mir (eDPI: 775)
Nikolay “mir” Bityukov is a Russian rifler playing for Team Spirit. The former Gambit player’s individual stats are top-notch. He has an astonishing rating of 1.21 in 2021 and an ADR of 85.1, beating the likes of zywOo and NiKo. He even rivals the untouched player of 2021: s1mple. He has been instrumental in all of Team Spirit’s wins this season.

5. ropz (eDPI: 708)
Robin Kool is a mousesports rifler who has stepped up immensely after karrigan’s departure. While everyone had dismissed mousesports, this Estonian’s step-up has taken the world by shock and his 1.20 rating speaks for itself. With ice in his veins, his best pops out when he’s under immense pressure. He is the sole reason why mousesports are still relevant in the community today.

4. NiKo (eDPI: 604)
Despite having neither the flash of s1mple nor the explosiveness of sh1ro, this Bosnian-Herzegovinian rifler has been in contention for the world’s best player for years now and has multiple times been the best rifler in the world (2020, for example). His headshot percentage and clutch statistics are eye-watering.
He leads G2 currently with a rating of 1.16 alongside his cousin, huNter.

3. sh1ro (eDPI: 800)
The 20-year-old Russian, Dmitry Sokolov, has been on the top of the world so far, with Gambit. Sh1ro’s explosive gameplay mirrors Gambit’s explosive re-emergence on the scene. Donning a ridiculous opening kill ratio of 2.19 and average rating of 1.24, this young AWPer seems to have no intentions to slow down. Literally. Because he has the best Deaths Per Round number in the top tier CS:GO scene right now: 0.51.

2. zywOo (eDPI: 720)
The French prodigy, Mathieu Herbaut, has taken the CS:GO world by storm for the past few years. His sudden emergence on the scene and a direct reach for the #1 spot, beating the ever-consistent s1mple to it, has catapulted him to extreme heights of fame.
The slump of his team has been deaccelerated only because of zywOo, who continues to put in admirable performances. He has a 1.24 rating in 2021.

1. s1mple (eDPI: 1236)
One of the most famous players in the CS:GO World, Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev is a Ukrainian AWPer and entry fragger for Natus Vincere. When he gets going, there’s no stopping him. His consistency has been off the charts for years, something that can’t be said for his team. After losing to zywOo on the #1 spot in 2020, he has been on fire and a man on a mission in 2021 and has been the sole reason betters bet on the most inconsistent team in the world.
Boasting a shocking rating of 1.34 in 2021, he is well on his way to reclaim the supposedly misplaced crown.

Alright, that was fun. But sit down now. It’s time for the talk. These DPI settings are not ideal. Yes, really. Why do the pros use it then? Do I know more than them? No. The thing is, the older generation of professionals are used to that kind of tech. So instead of adapting and re-learning everything on a more “modern” or “advanced” tech, they logically just stuck to where they felt best. What about the new generation, you ask? Well, the new generation of professionals has idolized these oldies. So just like you are tempted to steal some pro’s settings, they did that too. And hence, the vicious cycle goes on.
Why am I so adamant about proving that the pros are “wrong”? Because they kinda are. It’s more than just taste. It is scientifically better to play on a higher DPI. Some simple research will tell you that. That, in no way, means that playing on a low DPI will fail you. But if you’re new to this game, it’s just better for you to adapt to a higher DPI mouse and give yourself that early headstart. High DPI + Low sens (unless you wanna be some flickshot god) is the real way to go. You can always try to find what fits best for you, though. GL, HF!
