A zombie infested place like Days Gone has huge swarms of hungry, fast, and dangerous groups of freakers. As Deacon St. John, you’re job is to kill, eat and survive.

Fortunately enough, you got a LOT of power in your hands, I mean by gun power!

There’s a wide range of weapons to get the job done, but sometimes less luggage gives more comfort!

So, here's a list of top 5 best sidearms for taking out the freaks on the go! You can find them with our guide.

5. SAP9 (Best for being better alternative than the initial 9mm)

A step up for your basic bland 9mm you get at the start, SAP9 might not seem like a decent pistol by Days Gone standards, but it has decent stats to give you a heads up in the early stages of the game. 

Unless you want to stick with a starter weapon like the 9mm given to you!  

Weapon Stats:

  • Level / Tier 2 Poor Condition:
  • Damage – Below Average / 3
  • Range – Very High / 9
  • Accuracy – High / 8
  • Rate of Fire – Average / 4
  • Penetration – Below Average / 3
  • Stopping Power – Low / 2
  • Mag – 12
  • Cost – 500 cash.

What Makes The Weapon Awesome:

  • Best to take on a Lot of enemies early in the game!
  • Better accuracy and rate of fire than the 9mm.

How To Get SAP9: 

  • Level 2 - Poor Condition  - 
  • Will be found by the Merchant at Hot Springs Camp. 
  • Requires Trust level 0 at Hot Springs and 500 cash.

4. Lil’ Stubby (Best shotgun sidearm to use while riding a bike)

Lil’ stubby shotgun is a classified sidearm that has high damage, with less recoil. You can get this puppy early on in the game, and honestly it's a lifesaver if you choose to use it during bike riding missions. 

The gun’s shotgun ability will serve a great purpose in smashing those bikes of bandits or escapees of the camps, dont forget you can take down those pesky wolves in one shot.
 

Weapon Stats:

  • Damage – High / 7
  • Range – Very High / 9
  • Accuracy – Very Low / 1
  • Rate of Fire – Low / 2
  • Penetration – Average / 3
  • Stopping Power – Low / 2
  • Mag – 6
  • Cost – 2250 cash.

What Makes The Weapon Awesome: 

  • It has extremely good damage and range for a shotgun, if you’re a daredevil to go close and shoot!
  • Can use while riding on Deacon’s bike, that’s super handy if you come across annoying wolfs!
  • One shot kills.. Taking out breakers made easy! 

How To Get Lil' Stubby: 

  • Will be found by the Merchant at Wizard Island Camp OR, after a cutscene with Capt. Kouri
  • Requires to unlock Wizard Island area. (which is late in the game)
  • Requires Trust level 1 at Wizard Island camp and 2250 cash.

3. SMP9 (Best for clearing hordes)

Deacon takes his SMP9 for a spin next to an abandoned car.

A perfect sidearm to use while taking down hordes, and it has almost perfect rate of fire and good ammo capacity. The range on this is great and can take you through tough times in the game.
 

Weapon Stats:

  • Level 3 – Average Condition weapon:
  • Damage – Below average / 4
  • Range – Very High / 9
  • Accuracy – High / 8
  • Rate of Fire – Max / 10
  • Penetration – Below average / 4
  • Stopping Power – Low / 3
  • Mag – 45
  • Cost – 1250 cash / 0 cash for horde killer mission.

What Makes The Weapon Awesome: 

  • Gets you through tough situations, for horde missions for its max rate of fire
  • Good accuracy with highest mag.
  • Very easy to control and could use long ranges.

How To Get SMP9: 

  • Level 3 – Average Condition weapon  - 
  • Get it at merchant for 1250 cash. 
  • Found at Lost lake camp or Hot springs.
  • you can get for free if you manage to get horde killer mission for 10%

2. The Mayor (Best for faster reload and uses shotgun shells)

Having 'liberated' the mayor, Deacon takes it to aim for justice!

The mayor is a pretty good revolver if you want to have a red dead redemption feel. Its a revolver that uses shotgun shells and its faster reload times makes it up for the best weapon to use at multiple enemies who are close range.  
 

Weapon Stats:

  • Level 4 – Military Spec weapon:
  • Damage – High / 8
  • Range – Very High / 9
  • Accuracy – Above Average / 6
  • Rate of Fire – Average / 4
  • Penetration – Average / 4
  • Stopping Power – Low / 3
  • Mag – 6.
  • Cost – 0 cash.

What Makes The Weapon Awesome: 

  • Faster reload than most sidearms!
  • Excellent range.
  • A visual treat if you’re a red dead fan.
  • Great damage.

How To Get The Mayor: 

  • Level 4 – Military Spec weapon  - 
  • Can only be obtained after completing “Law & Order” storyline.

1. PDW (Best for being an all rounder!)

Deacon sneaks around a NERO checkpoint with his own PDW.

All and all best weapon in the game with a fair amount of damage output, great range and accuracy. It has the highest level of penetration to stick one bullet through a number of freaks. Very good mag as a start.

  • Level 5 – Special Forces weapon:
  • Damage – Average / 5
  • Range – Very High / 9
  • Accuracy – Very High / 9
  • Rate of Fire – Above Average / 6
  • Penetration – Very High / 9
  • Stopping Power – Average / 5
  • Mag – 20.
  • Cost – 1,250 cash.

What Makes The Weapon Awesome: 

  • Great accuracy and cool headshots!
  • Useful for when taking on Bounty Hunter.
  • High mag and almost no recoil.

How To Get PDW: 

  • Level 5 – Special Forces Condition  - 
  • Purchase from Wizard Island Merchant Trust Level 3 & cost 1,250.
