What Are The Best Weapons in Days Gone?

Days Gone is an open-world post-apocalyptic 3rd person shooter for the PS4. As Deacon St. John, you’ll find "Freakers" and hordes to kill. It’s no surprise that the game offers a wide range of weapons to get the job done, I mean, have you seen those hordes? You'll need a lot of firepower to take those down! So, here's a list of top 10 best weapons to take on those Freaks & Hordes! Don’t worry, we'll tell you where to find em.

10. Lil’ Stubby (Best for taking close-ranged one shots)

It’s a unique shotgun which can fit to a size of hip holster, which takes the slot of handgun in the game. Inspired by a Remington 870 "Witness Protection", Its phenomenal if you’re looking for a good ranged shotgun. There are three types of Lil' Stubby in the game, 

  • Level 1 - Junk Condition, 
  • Level 3 - Average Condition,
  • Level 4 - Military Spec Condition. 

Weapon Stats:

  • Level / Tier 4 Military Spec Condition:
  • Damage – High / 7
  • Range – Very High / 9
  • Accuracy – Very Low / 1
  • Rate of Fire – Low / 2
  • Penetration – Average / 3
  • Stopping Power – Low / 2
  • Mag – 6
  • Cost – 2250 cash.

What Makes The Weapon Awesome 

  • It has extremely good damage and range for a shotgun, if you’re a daredevil to go close and shoot!
  • Can use while riding on Deacon’s bike, that’s super handy if you come across annoying wolfs!
  • One shot kills.. Taking out breakers made easy! 

How To Get Lil’ Stubby (All Tiers/Levels): 

  • Level 1 - Junk Condition  - 
    • Will be found by the Merchant at Hot Springs Camp. 
    • Requires Trust level 2 at Hot Springs and 2000 cash.
  • Level 3 - Average Condition –
    • Will be found by the Merchant at Iron Mike’s Camp (has better quality than Coppeland’s camp).
    • Requires Trust level 2 at Iron Mike’s camp and 2000 cash.
  • Level 4 - Military Spec Condition –
    • Will be found by the Merchant at Wizard Island Camp OR, after a cutscene with Capt. Kouri
    • Requires to unlock Wizard Island area. (which is late in the game)
    • Requires Trust level 1 at Wizard Island camp and 2250 cash.

9. SAP9 (Best for having a better alternative side-arm than the initial 9mm)

Deacon holds his SAP9 at the ready probably for Tucker's latest barbecue party.

Based on real-life SIG Sauer P226. SAP9 might not seem like a decent pistol by Days Gone standards, it’s still a better alternative over the starting 9mm in the game. Plus, you could get it very early. Unless you want to stick with a starter weapon like the 9mm given to you!

  • Level / Tier 2 Poor Condition:
  • Damage – Below Average / 3
  • Range – Very High / 9
  • Accuracy – High / 8
  • Rate of Fire – Average / 4
  • Penetration – Below Average / 3
  • Stopping Power – Low / 2
  • Mag – 12
  • Cost – 500 cash.

What Makes The Weapon Awesome 

  • Best to take on a Lot of enemies early in the game!
  • Better accuracy and rate of fire than the 9mm.

How To Get SAP9: 

  • Level 2 - Poor Condition  - 
    • Will be found by the Merchant at Hot Springs Camp. 
    • Requires Trust level 0 at Hot Springs and 500 cash.

8. Crowdbreaker (Best shotgun for taking down swarm of freakers faster)

Deacon aims the CrowdBreaker to frighten the snow away.

Its a huge upgrade over the main weapons you’ll have at this time. The Crowdbreaker is absolutely essential, as it makes taking down swarms of freakers so much easier. I'd say, get it asap!

  • Level 4 - Military Spec weapon:
  • Damage – High / 7
  • Range – Very High / 9
  • Accuracy – Very Low / 1
  • Rate of Fire – Low / 2
  • Penetration – Average / 4
  • Stopping Power – Below Average / 3
  • Mag – 16
  • Cost – 3000 cash.

What Makes The Weapon Awesome 

  • Only shotgun to have a large magazine. Legit, it’s pretty useful in taking down hordes
  • Could save you at close counters due to its high damage.

How To Get CrowdBreaker: 

  • Level 4 – Military Spec Condition  - 
    • Will be found by the Merchant at Iron Mike’s Camp. 
    • Requires Trust level 2 at Iron Mike’s and 3000 cash.

7. Rock Chuck (Best for being the only gun with an in-built suppressor)

Now don’t get me wrong, it may not be a best gun overall, but it certainly provides the needed stealth aspect for an assault rifle, to take down enemies strategically! But the catch is, it’s hard to get. That’s why its number 7.

  • Level 5 – Special Forces weapon:
  • Damage – Average / 4
  • Range – Very High / 9
  • Accuracy – High / 8
  • Rate of Fire – Max / 10
  • Penetration – Average / 4
  • Stopping Power – Below Average / 3
  • Mag – 35
  • Cost – 0 cash.

What Makes The Weapon Awesome 

  • Are you as stealthy as a ninja? Then this will serve you good, cause of its in-built suppressor.
  • It has high mag capacity and accuracy, not to forget a max rate of fire!
  • It costs nothing, except for your time!

How To Get Rock Chuck: 

  • Level 5 – Special Forces Condition  - 
    • Can only be obtained by completing 100% of Marauders Camps. 
    • You can equip it only from the gun lockers.

6. .50 BFG (Best sniper for max penetration of multiple freaks at once!)

The best sniper rifle in the game, it’s basically perfect: top tier damage, range, accuracy, penetration, and stopping power.  The reason for being number 6 is, you won’t be able to obtain it till you get to wizard island and gain some trust with the camp.

  • Damage – Very High / 9
  • Range – Very High / 9
  • Accuracy – Very High / 9
  • Rate of Fire – Average / 5
  • Penetration – Very High / 9

What Makes The Weapon Awesome 

  • If you’re the type of player to shoot a long distance but better? Then this is the best sniper rifle to get in the game!
  • It has almost perfect damage, range, accuracy, penetration, and stopping power.
     

How To Get .50 BFG: 

  • Level 5 – Special Forces Condition  - 
    • Obtained at the merchant from Wizard Island. 
    • Requires trust level 2 and 3000 cash.

5. The Cowboy (Best for being the strongest rifle)

The CowBoy is loaded in by Deacon with some ammo.

With like a mix between a revolver and a double barrel design, the cowboy has some high damage for a rifle and certainly gets the job done if you want to rip some limbs off! The high damage and stomping power are good. Takes up the slot for primary weapon.

  • Damage – Above Average / 6
  • Range – Very High / 9
  • Accuracy – Very High / 9
  • Rate of Fire – Average / 4
  • Penetration – Average / 4
  • Stopping Power – Above Average / 6

  • Cost – 1000 cash.

What Makes The Weapon Awesome 

  • If you want to feel like Red Dead Redemption in days gone? Then go for it! 
  • Strong and deals high damage.

How To Get The Cowboy: 

  • Level 4 – Mil Spec Condition  - 
    • Get it at merchant for 1000 cash with trust level 2. 
    • Only at Wizard island.

4. Chi Chopper (Best for a sub machine gun with max rate of fire)

Deacon prepares to have a "talk" with his Chicago Chopper.

The chi chopper (short for Chicago chopper) is the sub machine gun with max rate of fire and almost perfect accuracy gives you the ability to rapid fire any hordes that come your way. Talk about mashing your gun down without much worry!

  • Damage – Average / 5
  • Range – Very High / 9
  • Accuracy – High / 8
  • Rate of Fire – Max / 10
  • Penetration – Average / 4
  • Stopping Power –  Low / 2
  • Mag – 55
  • Cost – 3000 cash.

What Makes The Weapon Awesome 

  • Rapid fire at hordes with super high mag.  
  • Great accuracy and range, good if you’re planning to do close range shots at multiple freaks.

How To Get Chi Chopper: 

  • Level 4 – Mil Spec Condition  - 
    • Get it at merchant for 3000 cash with trust level 2. 
    • Only at Wizard island.

3. PPSH-41 (Best for easy controlled close ranged weapon)

Deacon takes his "PPSH-41" out for a spin.

Has almost perfect rate of fire and good ammo capacity made this an easier to control close range weapon.  This can take you throughout most of the difficult situations in the game. It takes the slot of primary weapon.

  • Level 4 – Military Spec weapon:
  • Damage – low / 3
  • Range – Very High / 9
  • Accuracy – High / 8
  • Rate of Fire – Max / 10
  • Penetration – Low / 3
  • Stopping Power – Very Low / 2
  • Mag – 30
  • Cost – 2250 cash.

What Makes The Weapon Awesome 

  • Gets you through tough situations, especially those grizzly bears!!
  • Good accuracy with decent mag.
  • Very easy to control and use at close ranges.

How To Get PPSH-41: 

  • Level 4 – Mil Spec Condition  - 
    • Get it at merchant for 2250 cash with trust level 1. 
    • Only at Wizard island.

2. MG 55 (Best for a low recoil heavy machine gun with great ammo capacity)

A heavy machine gun, this is the best all-round special category weapon in-game if you’re like me to have a crazy ammo capacity (no joke, pretty useful if you don’t want to reload every 5 secs) and the bullets can pierce multiple freaks if you have the right perks on Deacon St. John. 

Weapon Stats:

  • Level 5 – Special Forces weapon:
  • Damage – Average / 4
  • Range – Very High / 9
  • Accuracy – High / 8
  • Rate of Fire – Max / 10
  • Penetration – Average / 4
  • Stopping Power – Above Average / 5
  • Mag – 30, and after mag upgrade 115
  • Cost – 0 cash.

What Makes The Weapon Awesome 

  • Crazy ammo capacity, which makes you not reload that much!
  • Excellent rate of fire.
  • Bullets can pierce through enemies with the combat perk.

How To Get MG 55: 

  • Level 5 – Special Forces Condition  - 
    • Can only be obtained after getting a 60% on Horde killer storyline.
    • Mag can be upgraded to max by horde killer 80% storyline.

1. IDF PUP (Best for great accuracy. Taking headshots made easy!)

An auto rifle, which is the most useful in the game with extremely great accuracy, especially useful in taking down human enemies and freaks combined. Kills enemies almost instantly on contact, probably not best for hordes due to its mag, but certainly the best at any mission and super cool head shots.

  • Level 5 – Special Forces weapon:
  • Damage – Average / 5
  • Range – Very High / 9
  • Accuracy – Very High / 9
  • Rate of Fire – Max / 10
  • Penetration – Below Average / 4
  • Stopping Power – Low / 3
  • Mag – 45, after mag upgrade is 65
  • Cost – 0 cash.

What Makes The Weapon Awesome 

  • Great accuracy and cool headshots!
  • Excellent rate of fire.
  • Decent damage and effective against any human and freak to kill almost instantly.

How To Get IDF PUP: 

  • Level 5 – Special Forces Condition  - 
    • Complete 50% Of ‘Horde Killer’ Storyline.
    • Mag can be upgraded to max by completing 75% Of ‘Horde Killer’ Storyline.
