Diablo 3 Best Demon Hunter Skills

Do you have all the right armor, all the fancy gems, and the perfect follower but still seem to lack the ability to decimate evil with your Demon Hunter?  Well once again, I have some tips that will surely help you out.  In my previous articles on the Demon Hunter Class in Diablo 3, I have talked a lot about armor, builds, gems, and followers.  Today, let’s get down to the bread and butter of Demon Hunter gameplay, the skill set.  Below I am detailing the top 10 damage inflicting skills used by the Demon Hunter to assassinate foes.

*All Percentages based on a Level 70 Character*

10. Elemental Arrow (Great for Low-Level Players)

Available upon reaching level 20, this Arrow pierces everything it hits dealing 300%.  This relatively low Hatred spender can handle single enemies as well as eat away at groups of them as well.  16 Levels later, you gain the Immolating Arrow rune which enables the arrow to explode on impact and deal an additional 360% weapon damage over 2 seconds to all enemies within 10 yards.

9. Grenade (Great for Crowds)

Five levels before getting Elemental Arrow you will get the grenade skill.  This is a fun attack to use against mobs.  Especially after gaining the grenade cache rune at level 40 which adds two additional grenades and is additionally powerful when you are wearing gear that has the same effect.  This skill generates 4 hatred and is useful to lob into groups while keeping your distance as you generate hatred and wait for cooldowns.

8. Multishot (Great for small low-level crowds)

Level 22 will reward you with Multishot.  While not a personal favorite of mine, this attack can deal a decent amount of damage to several enemies.  The real perk of this skill comes at level 55 when you not only fire a volley of arrows to damage an area but also fire 3 rockets that deal 300% damage each in addition to the 300% area damage from the initial attack.  This skill costs 25 hatred which makes it less economical that other options you will have at this point.

7. Cluster Arrow (Great for Single targets and Groups)

Cluster Arrow begins to step up the damage production, outshining the prior entries in this list as it boasts a more impressive 1,500% damage in total.  650% is dealt to the initial target and the remaining is split into four grenades detonations at the point of impact.  To further buff the initial damage to the target, at level 58, one can equip the loaded for bear rune which boosts the initial attack to 850% damage.  This cost considerably more hatred at 40 per attack but is considerably more worth it.

6. Fan of Knives (Great for Trash Clearing)

One of my favorite skills to combine with vault, Fan of Knives, is a convenient skill to use in the middle of a large crowd as it attacks in all directions, dealing 620% damage per target within 20 yards.  My first Torment Solo Build was modified(because I didn’t have the full build) Shadow Impale build that focused on Vaulting into crowds, casting fan of knives, then impaling anything left standing.  Initially dealing 620% damage, the Pinpoint Accuracy Rune boosts the total damage to 1,600% damage as lightning and adds 5 seconds to the cooldown.

5. Spike Trap (Great for Players with excellent patience and timing)

I’m not going to lie.  I had neither the patience nor the timing for this skill until I watched someone use it effectively.  I will add it to my arsenal if I find myself severely underpowered and having to “kite” enemies and orchestrate several attacks to deal enough damage to survive.  For 15 hatred, you lay a trap that is inactive until you cast another hatred spender.  You can lay four of them and set them off with a single attack dealing 1,160% damage to anything within 8 yards of each trap. Additionally, through runes, you can boost the damage to 2020% that is cold and slows enemies.

4.  Rain of Vengeance (Great for Crowds)

This skill was my absolute favorite when I began using it early in my first playthrough.  Like previous entries on this list, It is GREAT for distributing damage and can be used to focus even more damage on smaller more precise areas. Initially dealing 1500% damage to a large area, with the rune Anathema, you can shrink the area of effect considerably and crank the damage up to 5,800%.  This skill is particularly hand when you can control the grouping of your targets.

3. Rapid Fire (Great for Everything Except Movement)

Another skill I immediately fell in love with, casting Rapid Fire deals constant damage to a specific target at 685% damage.  This is a convenient skill when you can vault far away from enemies and endure a ton of ranged damage.  This skill is even more powerful when you add the armor set Natalya’s because after casting rain of vengeance every other skill is improved to 14,000% damage increased for 60 seconds.

2. Strafe (Great for High-End Builds)

I have used Strafe in one way or another pretty much my entire Diablo 3 career.  This skill can be used as a “vehicle” when you need a movement speed boost and it also can exude damage.  The basic skill deals 675% damage but 160% more can come from homing rockets when you equip the Rocket Storm Rune. This damage output can be greatly multiplied when wearing the Gears Of the Dreadlands (I’m talking 10,000,000+).

1.  Impale (Great for RGK)

The highest potential damage output for the class is the combination of the Shadow Impale Build and the IMPALE skill This is not entirely thanks to the raw power of Impale itself but the buffs from the Shadows’ build and I will get to that later.  First, let us talk about basic stats and Runes.  Damage per attack on Impale begins with 750% weapon damage to one enemy. Then,  with the installation of the Chemical Burn Rune, adding another 500% weapon damage.  HOWEVER, this list would not be complete without mentioning the Shadow’s Mantle Set.  The addition of this set alone adds 75,000% damage to a single attack. “Nuff Said.
