3. Blades of Chaos
The Blades of Chaos are Kratos’s signature weapons from the very first game. Featuring flame-enhanced attacks, the Blades of Chaos are needed to damage enemies that are enhanced by the Colds of Hel, a mechanic that renders enemies invincible unless you remove the buff.
The Blades of Chaos specialize in sweeping attacks; they're great for crowd control and keeping multiple enemies at bay. The Blades of Chaos can also inflict the burning status on enemies. The combo chains and runics on the Blades of Chaos can be built to have a higher stun rate compared to other weapons, namely the Hyperion Pull and Whiplash skills. These are great skills for dealing significant damage and stun to single-target enemies and for singling out high-priority targets.
The Blades of Chaos excel in these aspects over the other weapons:
- Huge sweeping attacks and runics with a focus on quicker, area-of-effect attacks compared to the Leviathan Axe It’s a great weapon for facing multiple enemies at once.
- The skill set contains attacks that work great at singling out enemies, such as the Hyperion Pull. Combine it with weapon attachments that boost it, and you can easily build the stun gauge on enemies—both normal and elite mobs.
- The weapons feature a fire-centric attack, so they can build the burning effect easily. Burning creates a damage-over-time effect on enemies, and if built around inflicting the burning effect, you can constantly damage enemies. This effect can be boosted with the hex arrows, which require elemental ailments to be inflicted to boost their effects.

2. Leviathan Axe
The Leviathan Axe is Kratos’s signature weapon in God of War (2018). Featuring cold-enhanced attacks, the Leviathan Axe is needed to damage enemies that are enhanced by the flames of Muspelheim, a mechanic that renders enemies invincible unless you remove the buff.
The Leviathan Axe specializes in heavy-hitting attacks that stagger enemies; it’s great for damage and single-target damage. The Leviathan Axe can be thrown as a ranged weapon, and with skillful juggling of the axe, you can enable a lot of multi-hitting combos. The weapon is cold-enhanced, so you can inflict the frozen status on enemies, which slows down their movement and opens them up for the gritty, heavy attacks from the Leviathan Axe. Overall, the Leviathan Axe is a stronger, higher-damage weapon that is slower than the other weapons.
The Leviathan Axe excel in these aspects over the other weapons:
- Heavy-hitting attacks with a lot of weight behind each attack Landing a solid combo with the axe always feels satisfying.
- The Leviathan Axe is very well-rounded to use, with long-range attacks to get flying enemies, sprint attacks that combo well with the axe when it’s not in hand, and area-of-effect alternative combo chains.
- The weapon features a cold effect, which is actually extremely useful because it slows enemies down significantly. Although do note that the cold effect is not as useful at higher difficulties due to bosses having increased resistance against statuses, it’s still going to be really useful for handling multiple enemies at all difficulties, making this a very solid weapon to master.

The Draupnir Spear is Kratos’s new weapon in God of War: Ragnarok. Featuring wind and sound enhanced attacks, the Draupnir Spear breaks through enemies with a white frosted health bar—a mechanic that renders enemies invincible unless you remove the buff.
The Draupnir Spear introduces a completely different way to play God of War and is arguably the best weapon in the game because of the number of options that it enables you to play with. From crowd control by actually impaling an enemy to the ground, to long-range spear and detonation combos, to conjuring tornadoes and spear storms with the runic attacks, and being generally the fastest comboing weapon in the game. The Draupnir spear has fabulous long and close range attack options, fast combos, and great damage. The spear also features an elemental absorption mechanic that lets you absorb ailments from enemies to imbue the weapon. So you can turn the spear into a fire spear, an ice spear, a poison spear, or a wind spear, giving you a crazy amount of options to pick from.
The Draupnir Spear excel in these aspects over the other weapons:
- Fast and Furious Weapon: The weapon excels in single-target damage and combo chains. It’s a very fast weapon with nice combos and a mechanic that lets you detonate the spear to stun and damage enemies. Both melee and ranged combos have a way to impale enemies with the infinitely generating spears.
- The draupnir can handle all ranges, from long-range artillery-style combat to close-range speedy assault; both options work really well. The spear is arguably Kratos’ best weapon to date, and it’s a weapon he can call his own as it was crafted in the traditional Spartan sense using his own blood.
- The flexibility of the Draupnir is limitless; being able to absorb the element makes this weapon the absolute best. Absorbing elements not only makes the damage increase, it also creates an effective way to consistently apply elemental statuses to a target, making it perfect for keeping or re-applying status ailments to an enemy.
