This game is the Dark Souls of tactical shooters. You will die a lot when playing this game, and that’s okay. With each new try, you’ll become better, and you’ll learn from your mistakes. There is currently only PvE, but later on, the devs said they will be adding a PvP game mode. But don’t get it twisted, the PvE side of the game is hard as hell to beat.
The bots will shoot you through walls, hear your footsteps, attack you when they hear you reloading, and so much more. The game has amazing devs that care for the project, and it’s one of the best SWAT tactical shooters out there right now. The last one we had was SWAT 4, but that was ages ago. But anyway, let’s review this game!
10. Performance
The first thing that we’ll be talking about is the performance. Let’s be real: today, most AAA games release with bad performance that just ruins your experience. Thankfully, that isn’t the case with Ready or Not. The game is optimized, and the minimum requirements aren’t that high.
If you have a mid-to-high-range gaming PC, you’ll do just fine, but even if you start struggling in some areas, make sure that you enable FSR to increase your FPS. You can also enable or disable some settings as you please to have a higher FPS.
9. Graphics
This game is visually stunning in all areas. The lighting reacts to the player's actions; the shadows look amazing, and the models of the characters are phenomenal. The gun models also look great and are highly detailed.
The game also has a lot of small details, which shows that the devs put a lot of love and care into this game. I know that graphics aren’t everything, but damn, this game does look beautiful. The textures are detailed, and the particles are there as well to compliment the game.
8. COOP/Multiplayer
Now, the best part where this game shines is in the COOP, or multiplayer, aspect. The game does have voice chat if your friends don’t want to talk through Discord, as it’s more immersive, or if you’re playing with strangers. But please remember that you have to communicate if you want to win.
If you don’t call out that an enemy is coming from behind, that one enemy will kill your whole team, and that’s the fun part of it. You will also need to call out flashes, grenades, or anything else that you throw at the enemy. In my experience, there isn’t a lot of lag when playing COOP, so that’s a good thing.
7. BOTS/Singleplayer
If you want to reach a high score or maybe an A rank on a map, but you just can’t do it with your friends because they’re messing around too much, try playing in single-player or with bots. You can have up to 5 bots on your team that you can command and control.
Although one downside that I have with this is that when you’re grouped up in a small hallway, it can get pretty tight, and everyone will be pushing each other around. The bots are also separated into red and blue teams so that you know who you’re commanding. The commands are also the colors of the team you’re giving orders to.
6. Maps
The maps in the game come in different shapes and sizes. Every map in the game can range from huge to small. And every map has at least two different game modes to be played on, while some may have more. The visual styles of the maps are different and unique from each other, and no map is the same.
Each map has a different art style and visual design, which is a great thing. Your eyes won’t get tired, and you won’t feel like you’re playing on the same map with a different name. Each map has a different theme. Sometimes you might be clearing out a shipyard full of terrorists, while on another map you might be in a hotel trying to rescue some hostages.
5. Weapons
The most important part of a tactical shooter are the weapons and how they feel when you shoot them. In short, each weapon feels goddamn great to use. The sounds of the weapons are realistic, and they have a kick to them. Yes, you’ll have to control the recoil, and each weapon has a different recoil pattern.
You won’t be able to use a machine gun or something crazy like that because a SWAT team would never use one. The weapons are also separated into lethal and non-lethal categories. The non-lethal ones are mostly for racking up a high score. You can also customize these weapons to your preferences and add attachments that will help you out.
4. Gameplay Features
This game comes with some unique gameplay features, unlike other tactical shooters. In this game, you’ll be able to tie people up, handcuff dead bodies, put guns into a package for evidence, call in dead bodies, rescue hostages, and so on. One thing that scares almost everyone is a gameplay feature where there is a small chance for a suicide bomber to spawn.
Which changes how you approach the situation completely. If you thought about going in to save everyone now with that guy, you might want to kill everyone. A bomb vest can also spawn on a civilian, and you’ll have to decide if it is worth saving him or maybe letting him go so you don’t lose the mission.
3. Art Design
One important thing for a video game, when it’s being developed, is having a unique enough art design. That art design will give a feeling to a game and make sure that it sets the right tone. This game does that. You’re going to feel a sense of dread and gloom over you when you’re playing this game, especially on the nightclub map.
Because that’s how you’re supposed to feel, you aren’t supposed to feel happy and cheerful about going in to murder some people. When you look at one picture online, you’ll instantly be able to spot whether it's Ready or Not. Even though it uses Unreal Engine 4, it is unique enough to be separated from other games that are using that engine.
2. Audio Design
The audio in this game is just something else. From the weapons to the small footsteps, everything just sounds so crisp. The enemies will react when you shoot them and will start yelling when they are shot at or get shot.
There is also a horrific sound effect that plays when you shoot someone in the neck. This game is brutal when it comes to the audio. Also, keep in mind that the enemy can also hear everything you hear, so be ready for some flanks and make sure that nobody is charging at you from the back.
1. AI Design
A great thing about this game is that it has really smart AI. If the AI hears footsteps behind a wall they will start shooting. If they hear you reloading they will charge at you. If they come up from behind you they will try to sneak up on you and stab you. If the AI gets outgunned or outnumbered they will flee and regroup with others.
They will also set traps for you and be waiting to ambush you. Oh, and one more thing: when you shoot someone, make sure that they’re dead, as sometimes the AI will play dead so that they can surprise you later. You will start questioning your ability to play video games and if you’re maybe getting too old for this. Because I have.
