[Top 25] Minecraft Best Mods For Multiplayer

Several characters are running outside through a Minecraft terrain.

Welcome, my creative Minecraft enthusiasts! If you are looking for more fun mods to add to your modpack that are explicitly focused on a richer multiplayer aspect of the game - you have come to the right place!

Now, at this point of your process, I assume that you have already lined up all of your quality-of-life mods like “Just Enough Items,” “Mouse Tweaks,” “Ore Excavation,” and other boring yet essential Minecraft modifications.

Then, without further ado, let’s dive into fun stuff with my list of 25 mods to add to your build that will guarantee that you and your friends will have the coolest Minecraft adventures!

Mods that I would recommend adding to any multiplayer server:

1. JourneyMap

Image
image
JourneyMap
It’s just like Google Maps! Except you can’t Google Earth the places you haven’t discovered yet…

“This is where my base is at.” “That’s where I died; would you meet me there and help retrieve my stuff?” “There is a cool castle on these coordinates - you should check it out.”

Playing any game with friends (vs alone) puts a more significant strain and gets more usage out of your maps. Adding JourneyMap to your modpack will allow you to set waypoints for cool landmarks, easily track your way back to previous deaths, and even teleport to precise coordinates (if you allow this in your server).

You can find this mod here:

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/journeymap

2. Lootr

Image
image
Lootr
An unopened loot chest will appear as gold. Once you loot it, it will appear blue for you.

Imagine you just raided a dungeon with your friends. You fought five levels of increasingly difficult mobs, defeated the boss, and now all of you are standing in front of a single chest of loot of the highest caliber. The question is - who takes it?

Not to worry! This mod allows all players to get 100% of what’s in every loot chest in the game! Every player will open the same chest to find random and different contents of roughly the same value.

No more lonely exploring or racing each other to the chests! Enjoy beating the mobs together and taking all the spoils of war together.

You can find this mod here:

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/lootr

3. Sophisticated Backpacks

Image
image
Sophisticated Backpacks
The little colored buckles indicate which level of upgraded capacity the backpack has.

The loot will not carry itself! When building a loot-rich modpack, you have to add a pretty big backpack to bring home the spoils.

This mod brings in a simple and upgradeable backpack system. Each upgrade doubles the existing storage. The starting upgrade materials are easy enough to come by - iron, then gold. And honestly, a gold backpack is big enough even mid to late game.

You can find this mod here:

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/sophisticated-backpacks

4. Security Craft

Image
image
Security Craft
The tighter security than this is only at Gringotts Wizarding Bank!

After adding more loot to the game with the Lootr mod and bringing it home, we obviously need a mod to protect all those treasures from your sneaky friends!

Security Craft is a must-have multiplayer mod, especially if you have that one friend who either steals diamonds from you or thinks that planting TNT inside your house while you are not looking is fun.

This mod allows you to passcode protect your buildings and chests. A cool feature in there permits you to disguise a pincode panel as any other “unsuspecting” block.

You can find this mod here:

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/security-craft

5. GraveStone mod

Image
image
GraveStone mod
Sorry, but you can only get one of these beauties if you die…

This mod, in my opinion, is a must whether you play alone or with friends - because nobody likes to find their items just to be thrown in a pile that can potentially despawn by the time you get to them.

However, this mod is even more important to have on your multiplayer server. If you and your friends are engaged in a rough boss battle, it’s quite possible you might all die at least once and run back while the battle is still going on. This mod will keep the graves with your stuff separate and easily identifiable.

Traveling Made Easier

6. Waystones

Image
image
Waystones
Discovered waystones will have mysterious glowing writings on them.

Is walking everywhere on foot taking too much time, but adding overpowered teleportation devices into the game just totally kills the stone cave vibe of Minecraft? Waystones mod has successfully breached that distance!

Now, players can craft or buy Waystones to put at their bases. You and your friends can effortlessly teleport to any discovered Waystones on the map using a couple of their level points as currency.

You can find this mod here:

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/waystones

7. Minecraft Transit Railway

Image
image
Minecraft Transit Railway
Trains in this mod look incredibly futuristic!

Some groups of players prefer building one big settlement for the whole group, staying together — others like settling individually and having an entire field and a mountain to themselves.

Transit Railway mod brings the vanilla minecarts to a whole different level! You and your friends can settle far away from each other and work together to build a modern railway system between your settlements to travel to each other at much faster speeds!

You can find this mod here:

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/minecraft-transit-railway

Combat Mods

8. Enhanced Celestials

Image
image
Enhanced Celestials
There are so many different moons you won’t want to sleep through a single night!

This mod spices the game up by adding three new phases of the moon: Blood Moon, Harvest Moon, and Blue Moon. These lunar events don’t happen every single night, but they do make those three select nights of the in-game month very special.

Blood Moon takes away players' ability to sleep through the night while increasing the monster's spawn capacity. To put it simply - try to go outside if you dare!

Harvest Moon increases the crops’ growth rate and drop rate. While Blue Moon gives players a luck effect and improves the quality of loot.

You can find this mod here:

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/enhanced-celestials

9. Ice and Fire: Dragons

Image
image
Ice and Fire: Dragons
Look at these majestic creatures… What a wing span!

Everything is simple here. This mod adds DRAGONS!

These beautiful yet terrifying creatures spawn all over the world. Without overpowered swords and enchanted armor, it will take your entire crew to kill a dragon since they are very powerful. This brings a great multiplayer aspect to the game.

After beating a dragon, there is a chance that it will drop an egg. In no time, you and your gang can each grow a dragon of your own. Then you guys will be the unbeatable airborne army!

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/ice-and-fire-dragons

10. The Lost Cities

Image
image
The Lost Cities
Aren’t your hands simply itching to make one of these skyscrapers into your base?

This is an interesting world-shaping mod. It adds abandoned cities throughout your Minecraft world.

The beauty of this mod is that you have total control over how densely these cities appear on the map and the type of them. You can pick whether the old lost civilization is above or below sea level. You can also opt out for modern world buildings or ancient ruins.

The Lost Cities is a fun mod to throw into an apocalyptic modpack.

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/the-lost-cities

11. The Pure Suffering Mod

Image

The Pure Suffering Mod
Oh-oh. I have PTSD just from looking at this picture.

The name of this mod is already explaining enough… This is a must-have for multiplayer run-through with friends who enjoy the combat side of the game.

This invasion mod intends to make surviving the night scary again! Invasions will initially spawn every few nights or so. As time goes on in your Minecraft world, invasions will increase in severity and tiers.

Make sure you spend your days wisely by preparing for this nightly insanity!

You can find this mod here:

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/the-pure-suffering-mod

“YUNG’s Better…” Mods

Creator YUNGNICKYOUNG made a lot of mods that build upon existing features of Minecraft, like The End, Nether, Dungeons, Witch Huts, Ocean Temples, and more. I highly recommend checking out YUNG’s other creations, but these three mods are, in my opinion, an absolute must.

12. YUNG’s Better Dungeons

Image
image
YUNG’s Better Dungeons
Caves will randomly spawn these rooms for extra adventures!

This mod expands on existing dungeons from Vanilla Minecraft. These dungeons have levels of increasing difficulty and are filled with fantastic loot!

More things to fight almost always equals a better multiplayer experience!

You can find this mod here:

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/yungs-better-dungeons

13. YUNG’s Better End Island

Image
image
YUNG’s Better End Island
Look for this mini teleporter tower after fighting the End Dragon. This is how you will get to the “Better end.”

Better End mod boosts the interest in exploring The End. Now, it is not only a floating island with little else to do after beating the dragon but a beautiful foreign world. This will be a perfect place to go on adventures - killing monsters and farming ender pearls.

You can find this mod here:

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/yungs-better-end-island

14. YUNG’s Better Nether Fortresses

Image
image
YUNG’s Better Nether Fortresses
These massive fortresses are home to many Wither Skeletons and loot chests.

This mod makes Nether much more fun to explore. It adds beautiful and menacing buildings - fortresses - that are filled with loot and formidable opponents.

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/yungs-better-nether-fortresses

Fun Stuff

15. Survival Island

Image
image
Survival Island
This is a really tiny island, and you will have to make it work.

Do you know how Minecraft is just a never-ending, ever-generating map? You can kill off all the sheep in the area and then just find another sheep spawn area later. Well, not with this mod.

Survival Island is a highly customizable mod that will put you and your friends on an island(s) of the size of your choosing. This significantly increases the difficulty of hunting for resources. All the players have to be very responsible not to drive the animal population into extinction and replant that sugar cane!

You can find this mod here:

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/survival-island

16. Cooking for Blockheads

Image
image
Cooking for Blockheads
Make Gordon Ramsay jealous of your master chef kitchen setup!

Every friend group is made up of different kinds of players. Some get bored sitting around, and they need to constantly fight something. Others - prefer staying back to build up the base and work for the good of the group, crafting something.

Well, this mod is for those Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley fans because it takes Minecraft cooking to a whole other level!

Paired with some good automation and gardening mods, a player can become a supplier of live-saving food items that boost one’s strength, vision, health, speed, etc.

You can find this mod here:

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/cooking-for-blockheads

17. Chisel Reborn

Image
image
Chisel Reborn
After putting a block in a chisel tool, the player gets many creative outputs.

When playing with friends, it is important to be able to show your individuality through creative builds, even at the beginning of the game, before you discover cooler materials. This mod allows to “chisel” common blocks like cobblestone into different, more creative variations.

This will enhance your base’s individuality.

You can find this mod here:

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/chisel-reborn

18. Inventory Pets

Image
image
Inventory Pets
Aren’t these guys so adorable?? Catch them all!

This mod is extremely fun and might bring a bit of competitiveness into the game. There are items - little pocket pets - that can be found in chests. They live out of your inventory and either give you a resource or a cool-ass ability if you feed them the right stuff.

Some pet abilities are more worldly (like giving you a piece of wheat every few minutes), while some are highly overpowered (like letting you teleport to the End). This mod arms your crew while also giving you an opportunity to trade these pets among yourselves.

You can find this mod here:

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/inventory-pets

19. Cosmetic Armor Reworked

Image
image
Cosmetic Armor Reworked
Look at this guy; he chooses which one of his two armor sets he wants to show off.

Skins = Wins! Cosmetics are important in every game; however, they are way more enjoyable when you have more people around to appreciate them.

This mod allows your character to conceal layers of heavy, unbeatable armor and appear as if you don’t wear anything (letting you show off that cool skin you downloaded from https://www.minecraftskins.com/) or put other funny in-game cosmetics. Don’t worry; you will still have all the buffs of your magical armor hidden underneath.

You can find this mod here:

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/cosmetic-armor-reworked

Passive Resource Production

20. Productive Bees

Image
image
Productive Bees
Bees are cute, and they work really hard!

A lot of Minecraft multiplayer modpacks are heavily built on exploration, better monsters, cooler dungeons, and mind-blowing dimensions. However, this is still Minecraft, so your in-game progression heavily relies on the acquisition of resources.

Productive Bees is a splendid mod that literally puts working bees into the game so that they produce resources for you while you are out conquering the world with your friends.

All you need to do is capture different types of bees, breed them to get the right type, build them cute houses, and make sure they have a lot of honey treats! Iron, diamond - you name it - they can make it!

You can find this mod here:

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/productivebees

21. Mystical Agriculture

Image
image
Mystical Agriculture
Isn’t it funny how sheep crops have a little face when fully grown?

This mod is an alternative to the Productive Bees. In this mod, you are growing the resources as crops rather than cross-breeding the bees. Honestly, to each their own, different people find one or the other easier.

Besides supplying your base with resources, this mod teaches you how to upgrade essence (a potential drop from any mob and what you will need to start your garden) to Insanium essence and craft pretty overpowered tools and armor.

(Try it in conjunction with Mystical Agradditions and Mystical Customization)

You can find this mod here:

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/mystical-agriculture

Dimensions

Here are four dimensions that I highly recommend adding to your multiplayer Minecraft modpack. Remember, besides new enemies to fight, every dimension gives you new building materials!

22. The Undergarden

Image
image
The Undergarden
Very swampy and very spooky!

This is a dark and mysterious new dimension located deep under the Badrock. After you successfully build a portal there, the mod introduces new fauna with 15 new biomes, 10 unique creatures, and plenty of room for adventures and loot.

You can find this mod here:

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/the-undergarden

23. The Twilight Forest

Image
image
The Twilight Forest
It’s always twilight there!

Twilight Forrest is an oldie but still a goodie. This mod creates a great multiplayer experience for your crew. To “beat” this dimension, you will have to beat bosses from all the biomes of the land gradually. Make sure you do it in the right order!

You can find this mod here:

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/the-twilight-forest

24. The Aether

Image
image
The Aether
The floating islands of Aether.

Unlike the darkness of the Undergrowth or the red terror of the Nether, this world is beautiful and angelic. It is located amongst the clouds! However, don’t be fooled; there are plenty of hostile creatures and three types of dungeons to conquer.

(Be sure to bring a lot of building blocks or think about getting a jetpack mod - Aether is a series of floating islands!)

You can find this mod here:

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/aether

25. Blue Skies

Image
image
Blue Skies
Castle-like dungeons in the Blue Skies dimension.

This mod adds two dimensions called the Everbright and the Everdawn. So far, the mod offers a total of 4 dungeons. However, just building the two portals to these dimensions is an adventure in itself.

One must find a gatekeeper, trade for a journal, then trade for a magical lighter… I let you unravel this interesting puzzle yourselves!

You can find this mod here:

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/blue-skies

As always, remember that some mods require other tweak mods for activation and flawless operation. If you are using the curseforge app to build your modpack, those required mods will get downloaded automatically.

Good luck on your Minecraft adventures, and let me know what other mods deserve to be on the top 25 mod list, in your opinion!
