Since the beginning of PokeTime, Ghost types have been a true staple throughout the Pokemon generations. Throughout the years, the world of Pokemon has made great progress to keep these ghoulish creatures interesting. By changing the abilities and effectiveness from game to game, it’s sure to draw you in!

Although Ghost type Pokemon are weak to themselves (Ghost against Ghost incurs double damage), they are probably one of the coolest and most valuable types. These Pokemon can perform moves well, have great appearances and are the rarest type of Pokemon you can catch!

What’s perfectly wicked about them is that they can’t be prevented from switching out of battle by any effect (for example, the move Mean Look). 

They are also a rare type of Pokemon, enticing players to collect them all!

Some of their strengths include:

• Being strong against Ghost and Psychic
• Resists Bug and Poison types
• Is immune to Fighting and Normal types

Ranked from strongest to most powerful: here is the list of strongest Ghost type Pokemon.

1. Houndstone 

The joys of adding another Pokemon into the world….

Houndstone consists of a great character design and fantastic learnsets and abilities. With a stat total of 488, Houndstone doesn’t rank the most powerful of the Ghost type, but with the right learnset, use of Feathers, Vitamins, Choice Items and Raid Build: it is a worthwhile Pokemon to have.

Houndstone’s Strengths:

• By leveling up to 46, he learns Phantom Force (90% Accuracy and 100% Damage)
• His Hidden Ability, Fluffy reduces damage from contact moves by 50%.
• His Ability, Sand Rush, doubles its speed during a Sandstorm.
• By giving it a Choice Band or Leftovers, Choice Band can increase the holder’s attack by 1.5 and Leftovers makes it so at the end of every turn, the holder restores 1/16 of its max HP.

Its strengths are no joke and should be considered wisely in order to boost Houndstone’s abilities to a max.

• 101 Attack
• 100 Defense
• 50 Sp. Atk
• 97 Sp. Def

Houndstone’s design is so cute and attractive that it will make player’s hearts swoon at the sight of it. With its large, skeletal and shaggy depiction, it’s sure to win over fans of Ghost-type Pokemon.

2. Sinistcha

Bring on the matcha!!!

Introduced for the first time in the Scarlet and Violet DLC, Sinistcha has a very unique and quirky design!!! It evolves from two forms of Poltchageist: Counterfeit or Artisan. Your Poltchageist will either need an unremarkable or masterpiece teapot to evolve into Sinistcha. Each form has a different location and different Pokedex entries.

Sinistcha’s Strengths include:

• It is partially resistant to Ground, Water, Grass and Electric types.
• Sinistcha has the ability to learn Poltergeist. This move incurs 110 Damage at a 90% Accuracy.
• Grass is one of the best Tera builds for this Pokemon 
• Its Hidden Ability, Heatproof, halves the damage taken from Fire-type moves.
• With its Ability, Hospitality, once Sinistcha is in battle, it showers its ally with hospitality, restoring a small amount of the ally's HP.

This charming matcha teacup has a stat total of 508 and should be considered a highly desired Pokemon.

3. Ceruledge

BRING ON THE BATTLE!!!

Ceruledge is a strong, B-tier Pokemon. It has an amazing Attack and Special Defense that make it a worthy ally.

Ceruledge’s Strengths:

• Resistant to Steel, Fairy, Grass, Fire, and Ice types as well as Poison and Bug types.
• With its Hidden Ability, Weak Armor, if it's hit with a physical attack, Defense is lowered and Speed is raised.
• If hit by a Fire-type move, its Ability, Flash Fire, allows Ceruledge to absorb the flames and use them to power up its own Fire-type moves.
• Moves like Swords Dance and Close Combat offer great options for offensive strategies.

Wandering the Mossfell Confluence (in the DLC), this sturdy Pokemon is a beast in battle. His adorably terrifying demeanor makes it a terrifying foe or powerful ally. 

Gengar’s Strengths:

• Partially resistant to Grass and Fairy types as well.
• STAB moves, Shadow Ball, Focus Blast and Sludge Wave, hits Ghost and Psychic types super effectively.
• Its ability, Cursed Body, gives opponents a chance to have their attack disabled.
• Gengar has high Speed and is a high Special Attacker.

5. Hisuian Zoroark

Spice it up!!!

This speedy Pokemon is an amazing find! Its base stats are pretty good from jump street, but then once you level Hisuian Zoroark up and bulk it through EV spread, it’ll be a roaring force for your team.

Hisuian Zoroark’s Strengths:

• Its Speed and Sp. Atk are no joke
• Moves like Giga Impact and Hyper Beam have extremely high power and accuracy that pair great with its abilities.
• Hisuian Zoroark is a Normal/Ghost type
• Ghost type is the best Tera for this Pokemon. It retains its immunities and resistances while boosting the damage output of Ghost-type moves. 

Hisuian Zoroark is a B-tier ranking character, great for any offensive team. With a high base stat of 510, this Pokemon is worth the battle.

6. Chandelure

Evolving from a Lampent using a Dusk Stone, Chandelure is a spectacular find! It is fearsome in battle and has a wickedly cool design to hunt. This top tier character is one to admire for its strengths and abilities.

Chandelure’s Strengths:

• Its Ability, Flash Fire, makes it so that if the Pokémon is hit with a Fire-Type move, it absorbs the flames and uses them to power up its own Fire-type moves.
• Its Hidden Ability, Infiltrator, makes it so Chandelure is unaffected by the target's barriers, substitutes, etc.
• Also resistant to Steel, Fire, Grass, Ice and Fairy types.

Its strengths are no joke and should be considered wisely in order to boost Chandelure’s abilities to a max. Its strengths and versatility of resistances prove its worth.

Chandelure’s design alone is sure to make Disney lover’s hearts swoon as it resembles a touching storybook character. Combine that with its strengths, stats and abilities– Chandelure earns a ranking of top tier!

7. Dusknoir

Train it for battle!

Dusknoir’s Strengths:

• Strong Special Defense and Attack stats
• Great moveset versatility
• Its ability, Pressure, makes the enemy use twice as much PP. Which can be great for outstanding strong moves in battle.

• 45 HP
• 100 Attack
• 135 Defense
• 65 Sp. Atk
• 135 Sp. Def

Dusknoir is a beautiful cyclops worth having for its strong stats and attack range. It will dominate in battle with the right training.

8. Basculegion-F

Basculegion-F breaks the mold!

Basculegion-F’s Strengths:

• Resistant to Steel, Fire, Water and Ice types.
• Her Ability, Adaptability increases STAB moves.
• Very unique evolution process: In order to obtain Basculegion-F, you will need to track down a white striped Basculin instead of red or blue striped. Then it needs to lose at least 294 HP from recoil damage. 
• Her Hidden Ability, Mold Breaker makes it so her moves bypass her opponent’s Abilities. For example, if the opponent has the Levitate Ability, your attacks will hit anyway.

Basculegion-F’s strengths should be feared by any opponent with its strong muscle power and sturdy demeanor. Ranking with a 530 stat, check out their individual stats,

Basculegion-F’s Base Stats:

• 120 HP
• 92 Attack
• 65 Defense
• 100 Sp. Atk
• 75 Sp. Def
• 78 Speed

Basculegion-F’s strengths and abilities make her a dominating force on the battlefield. She is a powerful ally to have on your team, crushing opponents left and right. Her moveset and STAB moves make her a mighty powerful ally.

Being as how Basculin evolves into two unique designs and strengths (its male and female forms): it is sure to intrigue challengers engaging in competitive battle.

9. Decidueye

Look at him strutting his stuff!

Decidueye is an amazing Special Attacker to have on your team. Its frail physique and whiplashing attacks make it a Pokemon worthy of prepping for the battle!

Decidueye’s Strengths:

• It is resistant against Ground, Water, Grass and Electric types.
• With its Ability Long Reach, Decidueye can use its moves without making contact with the target.
• Its Ability Overgrow powers up Grass type moves when Decidueye’s HP is low.
• Speed and Attack allow it to be a good first striker.
• Grass/Ghost type Pokemon (unlike Hisuian Decidueye who is Grass/Fighting type)
• Decidueye has a stat total of 530 and should not be overlooked.

10. Annihilape

It will annihilate its foes!!!!

Annihilape’s Strengths: 

• Drain Punch and Rage Fist allow it to do crazy amounts of damage.
• Resistant to Poison, Rock and Bug types.
• Annihilape’s Ability, Vital Spirit prevents it from falling asleep, while also preventing the use of the move, Rest.
• If Annihilape has any stat lowered by its opponent, with its Hidden Ability Defiant, Annihilape’s Attack stat will be sharply boosted!

With a 535 stat total, Annihilape is sure to impress players across all Pokemon niches. Let’s check out them individually,

11. Gholdengo 

Make it rain in this house!!!

Gholdengo is awesome. If you are in need of money or a strong, cool looking Pokemon: this is the chosen one. By equipping an Amulet Coin and using Gholdengo’s Make It Rain, they can really increase your Pokedollars. 

Gholdengo’s Strengths:

• With its amazing Special Attack, Gholdengo can take on fast and strong threats.
• With its Ability Good as Gold, it is immune to status moves.
• Make it Rain can clear the battlefield in double battles! Using this move will also find you some extra cash after battle.
• It is resistant to Flying, Rock, Bug, Steel, Grass, Psychic, Ice, Dragon and Fairy types, while being immune to Normal, Fighting and Poison types. 
• With this gold surfer’s good stats and abilities, you can be sure you made a wise choice.

Gholdengo’s stats include:

• 87 HP
• 60 Attack
• 95 Defense
• 133 Sp. Atk
• 91 Sp. Def
• 84 Speed

From Gholdengo’s stats, abilities, learnsets and tera total EVs, this Pokemon is fierce on its turf. It is definitely a go-to Pokemon for multiple reasons: its strengths are scary good, it's a good money farming source, and is super useful when using the auto-battle feature.

12. Flutter Mane

Its confidence in battle is admirable…

Flutter Mane is a strong go to for both the ghost and fairy types alike. It dominates the playing field among powerful Pokemon. With a 570 total stat rate, it will crush the competition.

Flutter Mane’s Strengths:

• Stellar is the best choice of Tera Form for this Pokemon. It’s best to do a match-up against Bug, Normal, Fighting and Dragon types.
• It is immune to Dragon, Fighting and Normal types.
• Through its ability, Protosynthesis and by having your Pokemon hold Booster Energy, it activates the Ability and increases its highest stat.
• Its moves, Moonblast and Shadow Ball are its best Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB) moves for a one hit knockout move.

Flutter Mane’s Base Stats:

• 55 HP
• 55 Attack
• 55 Defense
• 135 Sp. Atk
• 135 Sp. Def
• 135 Speed

This marvelous Legendary Pokemon is not named 12th on our list of most powerful for no reason. Flutter Mane is such a versatile Pokemon in that its attacks and strengths are so divine that it’s hard to beat among Ghost types.

13. Spectrier

Come at me brah!

If you like folklore and mythical creatures then this Legendary Pokemon is for you!!! Known for its ghastly appearance and mystical strengths, its signature move, Calm Mind, increases its already powerful Special Attack and Defense.  

Keep an eye out for Spectrier– its ghoulish charm and compelling moveset, will leave a lasting impression.

Spectrier’s Strengths:

• Its ability, Grim Neigh has its Special Attack boosted if it knocks out a target.
• Give Spectrier a Life Orb to boost the power of Spectrier's moves by 30%, leading to some residual damage.
• Focus Stash is a great item for Spectrier to hold as well as it prevents it from fainting in battle.
• Mild is the best nature for this Pokemon because its highest IV is Special Attack. Due to Spectrier’s 3 Special Attack EV Yield, this nature is best suited.

With Spectrier’s captivating design and flawless strengths, the journey in catching her will be a worthwhile one. With a 580 Base Stat Total, let’s look at them individually,

Spectrier’s Base Stats:

• 100 HP
• 65 Attack
• 60 Defense
• 145 Sp. Atk
• 80 Sp. Def
• 130 Speed

From Spectrier’s dominating nature to its haunting charm, it is definitely one to hunt for! By leveling up and building the right moveset, you can be sure to whip this Pokemon up for any battle!

14. Pecharunt

It’ll make you wanna do the Cha Cha Cha…

Capturing this Ghost/Poison type Pokemon is a super exciting adventure that gives Pokemon lovers one last kookie adventure after you have completed the base game and DLCs. This mochi-like creature can be found by completing the Mochi Mayhem quest. As the prize at the end of the quest, you get to battle and catch this high ranking base stat critter of 600!

Pecharunt’s Strengths:

It is an amazing Defense while also having pretty good stats. If your Pecharunt holds Leftovers, they will gradually restore HP during battle.

Toxic, Mean Look and Recover are great moves for Pecharunt to learn as you can poison the opponent and then keep them from switching out during battle. Recover is great for when it runs low on health and needs a pick-me-up.

It uses its toxic chains in battle to unleash deadly poison on foes, and is the only known Pokemon capable of learning the move Malignant Chain.

Only known Pokemon to have the Ability Poison Puppeteer. If a Pokemon is poisoned by the Ability, then it will also become confused! 

From Pecharunt’s strengths and abilities to its undeniable strength, this is a must have for any team. With a stat total of 600, check out its stats,

Pecharunt’s Base Stats:

• 88 HP
• 88 Attack
• 160 Defense
• 88 Sp. Atk
• 88 Sp. Def
• 88 Speed

Pecharunt does not lack in the strengths department and should be considered wisely when choosing your team: its abilities are hard to come by.

15. Dragapult

I’ll get you my pretty…

Found in 5 and 6 star Tera Raids, Dragapult is terrifyingly strong and hard to come by. From its dazzling good looks to its sharp competitive play– it is number 15 on the list of strongest Pokemon.

Dragapult’s Strengths:

• Resistant to Electric, Grass, Water and Fire Types.
• Its Ability, Infiltrator, ignores substitutes and protective moves like Light Screen or Aurora Veil.
• Its Hidden Ability, Cursed Body may disable a move that has dealt damage to the Pokemon.
• Dragon Darts is a strong STAB move to utilize!
• Fairy Tera Type is the best for this Pokemon! It flips its Dragon weakness (Fairy is super effective against Dragon types), into an immunity and grants a Dark resistance.
• Dragapult is highly desirable as ranking one of the best Pokemon to have in the game. Not just for strengths alone, but let’s take a look at their base stats,

Dragapult’s Stats:

• 88 HP
• 120 Attack
• 75 Defense
• 100 Sp. Atk
• 75 Sp. Def
• 142 Speed

Given all of Dragapult’s abilities, this makes it a S-tier Pokemon. Being one of the best in the overall game, you should keep a look out for this dangerous dragon!

Its base stats are already a great jumping point for EV and IV training. All Dragapult needs is some tender love and care to make it a frontrunner on your team!

Throughout the years, Ghost types have been cherished by Pokemon lovers everywhere. From their rare catching rates to their haunting designs, Ghost types are looked at as one of the most desirable Pokemon out there.
