Top 3 Charizard Decks Pokemon TCG
CHARIZARD!!

Hello all you fans of the Pokemon Trading Card Game and casual readers. Charizard is a huge part of the Pokemon community. He’s probably the most iconic of the original starter Pokemon evolutions and rare Charizard cards are among the most expensive on the market. That being said, it’s no wonder that there have been plenty of powerful decks featuring the card over the years.

Today we will be looking at the top 3 Charizard decks. All of the decks we’ll be looking at use a Charizard card as their main attacker and we’ll explore what cards help to enhance the deck in both the Standard and Expanded format. At the end of each entry there will be one version of the decklist for that deck in case you wish to build it.

Welder & Heat Factory

All three of these decks also include the Welder card so I’ll just explain what it does now. Welder allows you to attach two fire energy from your hand and then draw three cards. Also, Heat Factory Prism Star which discards fire energy and draws three cards will help all these decks in the expanded format. With that said, let’s get into the list.

3. Charizard VMAX

Charizard VMAX & Triple Acceleration Energy

Charizard VMAX is a powerful card and the main attacker of this deck. It has 330 HP and the main point of this deck is to power up its G-Max Wildfire attack. This attack costs five energy, three fire and two colorless. When you use it it deals 300 damage which is enough to knock out all but the biggest Pokemon. However, when you use this attack you need to discard two energy from Charizard. This would make it incredibly hard to use Charizard but you can attach a Triple Acceleration energy and use that to cover the discard for the attack. Getting the three fire energy onto Charizard isn’t that hard either so long as you’re using Welder. Here’s some of the other cards in the deck.

  • Volcanion is a great card for getting out if you go second. You can use 1 energy to search your deck for more energy and attach them to your Pokemon. It is also quite useful if you are against a Decidueye or Altaria deck so that you can actually hit them.
  • Giant Hearth is the perfect stadium for this deck. It allows you to discard a card from your hand and get two fire energy from your deck. This is all the energy you need for a full Welder.
  • Fire Crystal can also be used to make sure that you always have basic fire energy.

  • Double Colorless energy works just as well in this deck as Triple Acceleration energy except that you can keep it on your charizard for multiple turns if you don’t use it.
  • Special Charge is an item that will allow you to reshuffle and reuse your special energy once they get discarded.
  • Blacksmith is another supporter that allows you to attach multiple fire energy to your Pokemon in one turn. Definitely worth a look if you want more Welder type cards.

2. Reshizard

Reshiram & Charizard GX from Unbroken Bonds.

Reshiram and Charizard GX is a powerful Basic Pokemon with 270 HP. This card has three powerful attacks and many people decide that it was strong enough to be in a deck by itself. The Outrage attack costs two energy and does 30 damage plus the amount of damage on Reshizard. The Flare Strike attack does 230 damage for four energy but you can’t use that attack again next turn. Finally, Double Blaze GX deals 200 damage for three energy or 300 damage for six energy. This deck is very barebones, just use Welder to attach energy and hit your opponent hard.

  • Green’s Exploration is a niche card that finds some use in this deck. It isn’t useful if you have any Pokemon with abilities in play but this deck really just plays Reshizard and Volcanion. Once you play Green’s you can search your deck for any two trainers.
  • Some of these decks play Charizard & Braixen GX. This card does 180 damage for four energy and searches your deck for any three cards. It can be a handy consistency card if you don’t need to do as much damage.
  • Power Plant is a great stadium card that can turn off the abilities of all GX and EX Pokemon. Since you aren’t playing any abilities yourself, it works great to mess with other decks.

  • Fighting Fury Belt is a great tool card to use in this deck. It increases your HP by 40 and your damage by 10. It only works on Basic Pokemon and that's exactly what Reshizard is.
  • Custom Catcher is an interesting item card. You can play two at the same time and the effects lets you swap your opponent’s active Pokemon with one of their benched Pokemon. Green’s makes it easy to get them and then you can knockout anyone you choose.

1. Battle Sense Charizard

Charizard from Vivid Voltage.

This Charizard is a stage 2 Pokemon with 170 HP. This card uses the Leon supporter to make its attack more powerful. However, you don’t actually need to play Leon, you can just discard it. Charizard’s Battle Sense ability helps you to do just that. It lets you look at the top three cards of your deck and put one of them into your hand. The other two get discarded. Then the Royal Blaze attack deals 100 damage plus 50 more for each Leon in your discard pile and costs two energy. This Charizard does big damage but isn’t a multi-prize attacker so you can do very favorably in the prize trade.

  • Leon is obviously important in this deck and it can also help you to do 30 more damage when you play it.
  • Rare Candy allows you to skip to Stage 1 in Charizard’s evolution and get it out sooner.
  • Galarian Zigzagoon has an ability that puts 10 damage on any of your opponent’s Pokemon when you play it onto your bench. Just in case your attack is a few damage away from KOing your opponent.

  • VS Seeker is a great item that allows you to put a supporter from your discard pile into your hand. This can easily allow you to replay your Leon’s for 30 extra damage.
  • Muscle Band is an item that can boost your damage to 350 per attack. 300 for Charizard + 30 for Leon + 20 for Muscle Band.
  • Battle Compressor is an item that searches your deck for three cards and discards them. This can easily get most of your Leons into your discard pile quickly.
