Here’s everything you need to know about PUBG’s new game mode.
PUBG’s dev blog has just announced a new rotating game mode that is currently live on the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Test Servers.
This game mode will feature custom games with specific gimmick parameters available for limited amounts of time. The first round of PUBG’s Event Mode features 8 player squads and a doubled drop rate for rifles, and is available to anyone who has a copy of PUBG and has the Test Server version of the game downloaded.
The devs have stated that they intend for this game mode to be “much more than just a preset Custom Game, as Event Mode will feature new content, much of it available in the game only for a limited time”. Whether this has anything to do with the smaller 4x4 km island map mentioned in their 2018 roadmap is yet to be seen. But we can speculate that this means new guns and vehicles may be finding their way into the new game mode, as the blog post announcing Event Mode also mentions that they will be “trying new things and experimenting with different game parameters” in the new game mode.
Matchmaking within the current Event Mode will be limited to only the game’s Erangel map in TPP (sorry, FPP). Matches will be unranked, but still allow players to earn BP.
We have yet to receive a release date for Event Mode on the live server, with the devs stating that they plan to move the new game mode over “once we see that the current test build is in a stable state”.
