Raft is a survival game that requires players to gather resources to survive in the middle of the ocean on a raft. Basic resources like plank, plastic, and palm leaf are important, but the 10 resources in this article are the ones you need to move forward in the game. Here are the 10 most important resources in Raft.
10. Clay
Clay is a resource that can be found underwater around randomly generated islands. It is used to make bricks, which are needed to make a smelter. You can’t progress anywhere in the game without a smelter.
Make sure to prioritize collecting clay early on, as you'll need it to make bricks to progress in the game.
Clay is also used to make beehives, which is really important when you get to the point in the game where you’ll have to make honey.
Clay is also essential for making better food. Instead of grilling all of your food, you can make recipes in the cooking pot. To scoop your meal out of the cooking pot, you’ll need the clay bowl.

8. Watermelon
Watermelon is a food resource that can be found on tropical islands and can be grown on a raft using a farming plot. It is a good source of hydration and sustenance.
Because they’re easily found on tropical islands and they provide both sustenance and hydration, I found myself using watermelon as a main food source at the very beginning of the game.
Watermelon is also a great resource for biofuel. It only takes 2.5 watermelons to make 1 biofuel.
Why watermelon is important:
- Can be eaten for both hunger and thirst.
- An excellent biofuel resource.
- Easy to farm in the comfort of your own raft.
How to get watermelon:
- You can harvest watermelon on tropical islands.
- To grow watermelon, you'll need to create a medium crop plot on your raft. Plant the seeds, and make sure to water them. In 8 minutes, they will be ready for harvest.
7. Wool
Once you have tamed llamas and put them on your raft, you can shear them to get wool. I feel like there was a missed chance for the developers to create decoration and bedding recipes for wool, but nonetheless, wool is still extremely useful. Wool is an important resource for crafting your backpack and armor.
After that, it’s the best resource you can put in the recycler, as it only needs 8 pieces to fill up the recycler. So, make sure to shear llamas whenever you come across them to gather wool.
Why wool is important:
- Used to make armor.
- Used to make a backpack.
- The best resource for the recycler to get trash cubes.
How to get wool:
- To get wool, you'll need to find llamas on islands and catch them via the net launcher. Once caught, bring your llama back to your raft and place it on a grass plot.
- Use shears to gather wool from them. Wool will grow back every 5 minutes as long as you keep the grass watered.
6. Copper
Copper is a resource that can be found deeper underwater. It is used to craft batteries and circuit boards. Copper is essential for creating electronic items.
The circuit boards are used in various advanced items such as the electric purifier, the juicer, the sprinkler, the recycler, and many more.
The first thing you’ll likely make with the circuit boards are the antenna, receiver, and recycler. The antenna and receiver are essential to progressing in the game.
The recycler is used for making trash cubes, which can be traded for resources at the trading posts.
Why copper is important:
- Used to make circuit boards.
- Circuit boards can make a variety of electronics.
- Used to make batteries.
How to get copper:
- To get copper, you can dive underwater and use a hook to gather it. They are mostly in the deeper parts of the seabed, toward the outer edges of the islands.
5. Honeycomb
Honeycomb is a resource that can be obtained naturally on evergreen islands and desert islands. It can also be farmed using beehives. It is used to craft honey and good healing salves.
Why honeycomb is important:
- Used to make honey.
- Honey is used to make biofuel, which is required to fuel engines.
How to get honeycomb:
- To get honeycomb, you can simply collect it in the wild on evergreen and desert islands.
- To farm honeycomb, you'll need to catch bees with a sweeper net. Craft a beehive and place it on your raft, with flowers growing directly adjacent to it. In 8 minutes, the honeycomb will be ready to harvest.
4. Scrap
You can get scrap by using a hook to pick up barrels and crates that are floating in the ocean. There is a chance of scrap dropping from barrels and crates. The main way to gather scrap is by using the hook to gather it on the seabed. It is used to craft tools and weapons like the metal fishing rod, scrap hooks, and metal axes. It’s also used to make nails, which are used in so many more crafting recipes.
Nails are also needed when building your raft upwards, as they’re needed for wooden pillars, stairs, and ladders. One of my favorite items in Raft are the collection nets, which you’ll need nails to craft. Collection nets make gathering floating debris so much easier. You can float around and let the nets do the work while you go and work on something else.
Why scrap is important:
- Used to craft weapons and tools.
- Used to craft essential farming items such as crop plots and sprinklers.
- Used to craft nails which has a variety of uses from crafting recipes to building.
- Used to craft simple collection nets.
How to get scrap:
- To get scrap, you'll need to use a hook to gather it on the seabed.
- You can trade for scrap at the trading post
- You also have a chance to find scrap in barrels, crates and other loot boxes.
3. Metal
Metal is a resource that can be obtained by smelting metal ore in a smelter. It is used to create a variety of items like a metal spear, a metal axe, and a metal detector.
Metal is an important resource that is used to create some of the most useful items in Raft. Make sure to prioritize collecting metal ore and smelting it whenever you get the chance.
Why metal is important:

It is used to create a variety of advanced and late-game items like the advanced collection nets, the electric smelter, engine controls, etc.
Titanium ingots are also used for advanced collection nets, which make gathering floating debris so much easier as you can leave it to do its thing while you go and do something else.
Why titanium is important:
- Use to craft the best weapons and tools.
- Used to craft advanced and late-game machines for resource gathering and navigation.
- Used to craft advanced collection nets.

- You have a likely chance of finding titanium in safes and loot boxes on Tangaroa.
- You also have a chance to find titanium while using the metal detector to find buried treasure.
1. Seaweed
Seaweed is strangely a very versatile resource. It is smelted to make vine goo. The reason it’s on the top of my list is because seaweed and vine goo are used to craft oxygen bottles and flippers.
These allow players to hold their breath underwater for much longer and swim faster. It makes resource gathering underwater so much faster. You can gather more resources before the shark respawns. I believe that the more efficient your resource gathering is, the more enjoyable your gameplay will be.
Why seaweed is important:
- It is used to make vine goo
- Oxygen bottles and flippers make gathering resources so much faster.
Best ways to get seaweed:
- To get seaweed, you'll need to dive underwater to gather it. No need for a hook; it’s super easy to swoop down and gather a bunch.
