Top 10 Stardew Valley Best Winter Crops

Stardew Valley goes through the typical four seasons of Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter, with each season having something different. Different seasons call for different types of events and activities, and on a farm, different crops. Now you may be wondering just what kind of crops can grow during the cold winter season in Stardew Valley, and to be honest, not much. However, that all changes with the unlocking of the Greenhouse.

The Greenhouse is the only other building that is present on the farm at the start of the game. It is in shambles, and the only way to make it functional again is to either complete the Pantry Bundles in the Community Center or by accepting the JojaMart membership and purchasing the Greenhouse repair from the Joja Community Development Form. Once repaired, the interior is much larger than it looks from the outside, with a 10x12 plot of land in the center of the building and space on the sides for decorations and trees. Any and all crops can be planted, grown, and harvested all year long as long as they are watered, so you don't have to worry about planting in the right season.

This article will go over the best crops to grow in the Greenhouse during the winter to best optimize the time, make players some money, and also keep them and their farm animals' stomachs full.

10-Fiber

Best Stardew Winter Crops

Fiber, one of the two winter crops, is a raw crafting material sourced from plants that grow like weeds around the farm and valley. It can be found in all seasons except winter, with the exception of Fiber Seeds. With these seeds, players can continue to get access to useful material during the winter.

The great thing about this crop is that it does not need watering and it produces multiple fibers when it’s harvested, between 4 and 7 pieces. They do still need to be planted on tilled soil, unlike their weed counterparts. As a crop, it is still in danger of being eaten by crows, so be sure to use scarecrows.

Fiber Seeds is a crafted seed, requiring a recipe that is obtained from Linus after completing his Community Cleanup Special Order. Fiber is disliked by all villagers, which is fine because there are better uses for it as a crafting ingredient.

Why Fiber is Great For Winter:

  • It is a great resource used to create a multitude of items, from fertilizers and scarecrows to totems and buildings.
  • Products it creates: Many of the items created with this resource are acquired after leveling up your skills and friendship hearts.
  • Fish Pond Quest: 5 Fibers may be requested by Crayfish, Periwinkle, or Snail to increase the capacity of the pond from 3 to 5.
  • It is a green dye when used in the spool of the Sewing Machine with a dyeable clothing item in the feed. It can be placed in the green dye pot.

9-Winter Seeds

Best Stardew Winter Crops

The second winter crop is Winter Seeds which are a type of Crafted seed. Mature plants yield, at random, a Crocus, Crystal Fruit, Snow Yam, or Winter Root. All of these are used to craft Winter Seeds.

Winter Seeds are one of the season-specific crafted wild seeds, along with Spring Seeds, Summer Seeds, and Fall Seeds that produce crops normally found as forage. While Farming Skill normally increases the chance to grow a quality crop, Foraging Skill increases the chance to grow a quality crop from Winter Seeds.

Choosing the Botanist profession will ensure iridium-quality crops grown from Winter Seeds. Crows do not attack crops grown from Winter Seeds, so the use of Scarecrows is unnecessary.

There are a couple of ways to source these seeds:

  • Crafting it with the recipe, which produces 10 seeds at a time. Then it is by placing a Winter Root in a Seed Maker, yielding 1–3 Winter Seeds.
  • Completing the Winter Foraging Bundle in the Crafts Room gives the reward of 30 Winter Seeds.
  • Purchase from the Traveling Cart at the price of 100–1,000g
  • Trade with the Desert Trader on Saturdays in exchange for 2 Spring seeds.

Best Stardew Winter Crops

Wheat, one of the most widely cultivated grains, is a vegetable crop that grows from Wheat Seeds. This is great because the Hay can be used to feed farm animals, and since wheat grows quickly, it may be beneficial to devote some or most of the Greenhouse to growing it.

Wheat may be placed in a Keg to produce Beer, and later it may be aged in Casks to increase its quality. In addition to Beer, players have the ability to craft Flour from Wheat by using a Mill.
