Here's what we know about Cyberpunk 2077 from E3 2018

Cyberpunk 2077 is an upcoming RPG by Polish game producer CD Projekt Red. The game takes place in Night City, a dystopian metropolis set in the year 2077, which according to its E3 trailer, was voted “worst place to live in America” in the year 2077. Sounds, fun right? After the E3 reveal, Kyle Rowley, Associate Design Director at CD Projekt, revealed some much awaited facts about Cyberpunk.

Here's what you need to know:

1. V is the main character

When you get on this game, you will be playing as “V”, an “urban mercenary” who wants to break free from the oppression of Night City. V is sort of a rebel who won’t conform with the city’s rules and wants to write his or her own rules, and you will help do that by completing different missions and tasks. Who V is will depend on you - you decide your gender, your clothes, makeup, tattoos, and other cosmetics. There are also multiple different roles you can start as. Make the hottest character you want.

2. Open world

Cyberpunk’s open world is entirely handcrafted. You’ll be able to roam Night City, use vehicles, do whatever. Just like our old GTA V. The difference is, you’ll be put 59 years into the future, with an entirely different crowd. Players will get to experience the city life. Rowley hints that Night City is partially based on Blade Runner, and explains that the studio wanted to cast some daylight on the city, refering to the constant gloom in Projekt Red’s previous games. Don't worry, the game will still have its dark and edgy moments. There will be a full day/light cycle in the game, which will allow you to experience the metro’s sullen nightlife, which Rowley describes as “Blade Runner noir”. Still sounds like GTA? Wait till you hear this: Night City itself will change with choices throughout the game! This means the cityscape will change depending on what you decide to do. Have fun wrecking that city.

3. No Set Story

There are three main “roles” - Netrunner, Teckie, and Solo, any of which you can choose to take as V. As you play through Cyberpunk 2077, your choices will change your  character’s path. Progressing through the game will allow you to modify your character based on the perks you unlock. It’s a very fluid progression system. Rowler promises that it is up to you whether you want all to combine all three roles. Picking a role at the beginning of the game doesn’t box you into it permanently.

4. Lore from the 90’s

Cyberpunk 2077 is based on Cyberpunk 2020, which was published by R. Talsorian Games Inc. back in 1990. Rowley explains that Night City itself, multiple characters, and tons of other lore has been brought back to Cyberpunk 2077 from the old game. Cyberpunk 2020’s progression system was heavily based on skills and perks instead of levels, and 2077 probably will be the same. In addition, it seems that some characters from the CD Projekt Red’s previous hit Witcher 3 may make an appearance in the game.

5. Mature Content

Those who saw the 50 minute demo at E3 will tell you that there is a lot of profanity in just the first few minutes of gameplay. According to CD Projekt, in order to fully immerse players into Night City, the studio has put a lot of effort into the player’s interactions with the people of the city. This means there will some romances and one night stands that you, as V, can initiate. As well as other fun stuff like heavy weaponry and brutal combat, there will be full frontal nudity in this game. All in all, Cyberpunk isn’t something you’ll be getting your kids for Christmas.
