The most popular and efficient way to travel is the use of flyers, or dinosaurs that can fly.
This allows players to reach areas all over the map, and to cause more damage depending on which flyer they choose.
Each flyer has their own unique abilities and stats that can be used for your playstyle or at different points in the game.
5. Pteranodon
The Pteranodon is the first flying mount you should have. They are easy to tame and fastin flight. This is a great start for players to begin traveling further and safer around the Ark.
Abilities and Traits
- High speed
- Roll in the air by pressing “C”
- Ability to harvest raw meat and hide
- Can pick up some small creatures
How To Get This Flyer
- Reach level 38
- Unlock the saddle engram
- Craft a saddle with 230 hide, 125 fiber, and 75 chitin or keratin
- Bola the Pteranodon
- Knock the Pteranodon out with tranq arrows, tranq darts, stones, clubs, etc
- Feed the creature raw meat and wait for tame completion
- Equip the saddle to the Pteranodon

4. Tapejara
The Tapejara is basically the next step up from the Pteranodon. The Tapejara has slightly better stats and will be great for players looking for something more advanced but are not yet ready for the more dangerous and expensive flyers.
Abilities and Traits
- 3 players can ride at once (One driver, two passengers)
- Will flee at any sight of danger, even if the player does not attack it
- High speed
- Carry smaller creatures
How To Get This Flyer
- Reach level 55
- Unlock the saddle engram
- Craft a saddle with 260 hide, 180 fiber, 120 wood or fungal wood, and 45 metal ingots or scrap metal ingots
- Bola the Tapejara
- Knock the Tapejara out with tranq arrows, tranq darts, stones, clubs, etc
- Feed the creature raw mutton (or raw meat) and wait for tame completion
- Equip the saddle to the Tapejara

3. Griffin
Most players believe that the Griffin is pretty overpowered. This is likely the first flyer you will want to obtain before committing to pvp with flyers. The abilities of the Griffin are powerful and can be very deadly for your enemies or hostile creatures.
Abilities and Traits
- Aggressive
- Does not require a saddle
- The fastest creature in the game
- Weaponry is usable while riding
- Cannot be bred
- Dive sweep ability
How To Get This Flyer
- Chain bola the Griffin
- Knock the Griffin out with tranq arrows, tranq darts, stones, clubs, etc
- Feed the creature raw mutton (or raw meat) and wait for tame completion

2. Quetzal
This flying mount is capable of much more than most mounts. Players can attach a platform to the Quetzal, which means more people can ride this mount, but most importantly, players can attach turrets to take down other dinosaurs or players, making this mount almost essential for pvp.
Abilities and Traits
- Fly at a slower rate but can also fly extremely fast
- Wild Tapejaras never stop flying
- Can hold a total of 40 structures on its back
- Can pick up larger creatures
- Difficult to tame (high torpor)
How To Get This Flyer
- Reach level 76
- Craft a saddle with 750 hide, 500 fiber, 100 cementing paste or achatina, and 85 silica pearls or silicate
- Knock out the quetzal using tranq darts, tranq arrows, stones, etc
- Feed the Quetzal raw mutton (or raw meat) and wait for tame completion

1. Wyvern
By far, the wyvern is the most popular and best flying mount in the world of Ark. Players are looking to do whatever they can to get their hands on a wyvern of any type. This flying mount is most likely the last flying mount you will need to tame and will be the hardest one by far.
Abilities and Traits
- Breath attack unique to the element of the wyvern
- Different elements of wyverns
- Adults cannot be tamed
- “C” to deal knockback for escapes
- Fast in air, can sprint on ground
- Does not require a saddle
How To Get This Flyer
- Steal an egg from the female’s nest
- Incubate egg with standing torches or campfires
- Once the egg is hatched, feed the wyvern “wyvern milk” which is obtained by knocking out adult wyverns and taking the milk from their inventories
- One milk will feed the baby for 3 hours and 100 hours required for maturation process, therefore, you will need about 34 wyvern milk to mature
- Ride the adult wyvern
